I was having the same problem and just figured it out. Just like a lot of you, the fixes listed here didn't work for me. This is what I did:

1.) Open iTunes Store app

2.) Scroll to the bottom of the Music tab to your Apple ID

3.) Tap your Apple ID and select "View Apple ID"

4.) It will take you to your Account Settings and you'll scroll down to and select "Hidden Purchases"

5.) Select "Music" and it should all be there

6.) Select "Unhide" and it should automatically start downloading the songs.

Hope that helps!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply but that doesn't help at all.

The problem is that these songs show up as in my library under Purchased but they are not actually on my Mac.

There must be a way to play music bought on the itunes store without having every single file downloaded on my mac.

It can't be that if I have 20Gb in music in my Library that I need to download 20Gb of music to my Mac.

The library file should be enough but this isn't working.

Would I be better off moving the whole library file to trash and start all over?

I have indeed activated iTunes match on the Macbook.

I indeed deleted that file on the mac and not via iTunes as I noticed that if I delete it via iTunes it takes up way more disk space.

The iPod classic can hold 64Gb but it is kind of pointless if I can only sync the iPod with if I download 64Gb of music onto my Mac.

There are plenty of other music players and other mp3 players that can organise my music better and play it better.

I stuck with the iPod and Macbook andiTunes as it is supposed to all work together, but apparently it doesn't.

Even though I have music in the cloud turned on it still doesn't seem to be able to sync with music in the cloud unless I have it downloaded onto my Mac.

I indeed want to download or sync music to my iPod from iCloud. If it can't do this and I have to have every single file I want to sync with my iPod on my Mac then it is no use to me at all.

There are other music players that can do this for me so I would be forced to look for those now.

As for the iPod. I think I resolved it for now by deleting all music in my library and now redownloading it to my harddrive.

Very disappointed in that though.

Which devices do you think you can you sync music to by connecting to your computer if you do not have that music on your compuer?

I have the same problem, took me 3 days to find the solution:

1. Go into iTunes store (need to be logged in)

2. On the homepage, go to "Purchased" right hand side right under "Music Quick Links" and "Account"

3. Now your purchased history will show up (not to confuse with the purchased playlist inside your local device).

4. On the top center; you should see something like "All" and "Not in My Library", select "Not in My Library" to find the missing songs.

5. On the bottom right, go should see "Download All", click on it and this should initiate the download immediately.

Hope this will solve it for you...

I had the same problem. It says "purchased" but it is greyed out. I managed to sort this with the following:

1) Open iTunes on computer and sign in

2) At the top, towards the right, click on your name appearing with a small down arrow.

3) Click on Purchased

4) At the top click on the box "Not in Library"

5) There should be the song(s) that you purchased but for some reason didn't download to your library.

6) Click on the download-cloud icon showing on the wanted album cover and voila!

I am using OS X 10.9.5

Good luck!

Had similar problem. Go to iTunes Store. Click on Purchased. That'll give you a list of everything you've bought. From that list just click on any of the songs to download it. It'll then prompt you for your username and password. once that's in go back to your music and all the "Cloud" songs (i.e., previously bought and downloaded songs that are no longer on your device and "greyed out") should now be downloadable... it's just some problem with authenticating or something... won't do anything until you've put your user/password in...

To Jim's and the others points this should work. If it isn't the issue with the hidden files being selected in Account quick link then going to library as Jim suggested works. It may not show in the not on this computer list though. I found the album I was looking for by going to the specific artist. It was there and then I clicked on the iCloud download icon and now its in my library on another Mac I own.

I have the same exact issue.

This response worked up until step 5

1) Go to iTunes on computer

2) Go to iTunes store and "Sign in"

3) On the right hand side by " Qick Links " under that and click " Account " and sign in again.

4) You will your account information.

5) Go down you'll see " iTunes in iCloud" and click " Hidden Purchase" and go to " Manager" to "Unhidden"

When I got to step 5 the hidden purchases button was not there.

Skimmed thru the whole 10 pages of the thread and didn't notice this fix.

I could have totally missed it though.

Anyway, it is the ONLY solution that worked for me.

Not saying it's the "best," "least complicated," or "will totally work for you" option.

I will say that it is the "most ridiculous" option.

If nothing has worked for you yet, why not try it just for kicks?

1) Hate your life.

2) Click "Playlists" up there at the top of the screen.

3) Click on the playlist "Purchased."

4) Select the tracks you are having trouble (as described by original poster) with —they'll have those little exclamation point thingies next to them.

5) Make a playlist from those tracks.

6) Click "My Music" to return to your library.

7) Search for the missing track/album in your library.

8) In the track list portion (don't think it works if you click to play the whole album) click the first—or any—track with an exclamation point next to it.

9) When you get that "do you want to locate it" pop-up, click "CANCEL." Yes, you read that right.

10) Now take a look at the track you couldn't download. There should be the little cloud next to it.

11) Click on the little cloud.

12) Voilà ! The track should download.

13) Repeat steps 8-11 for every single track you're having the problem with.

14) Turn that frown upside down.
