Add my laptop to the list. I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro 10,1. 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 with 8MB ram and 512GB SSD. It also has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. I purchased it in 12/2012 and just a few months ago started experiencing the random GPU panic. It would come and go and I thought I had it licked after wiping the machine but it has come back with a vengeance and now crashes daily if not multiple times a day. Heavy video usage or Photoshop usage easily cause the GPU Panic. I've just installed the gfxCardStatus app and have it set to integrated only but will probably take it into the Genius bar and see what they say.

This is VERY disappointing!

gfxCardStatus (switching to integrated only) helps, but I gonna discuss that at the genius bar this thursday...

Add mine as well - Mid-2012 Retina MBP - NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M - Running OK with gfxCardStatus forcing Intel graphics only - any switch back to dynamic switches crashes the whole system. Ironically this isn't the first time I've had a run in with crappy NVIDIA cards - I had a Mid-2007 MBP and a Mid-2010 MBP both of which had NVIDIA cards replaced under Apple callbacks. Why are Apple still persisting with these shoddy cards?

And one more for the list. Mine is an early 2013 Retina MBP with the NVIDIA 650M, I had the GPU panic 5 times today.

Most frequently it occurred when the computer was closed, moving to or from my desk for a meeting.

Took mine to the "Genius" in London and funnily enough they were: "Unable to verify issue have tried switching cards and issues doesn't show up", which is odd as I couldn't boot up the machine beyond the login page without the screen going black or the whole system crashing. Even more interestingly they still went ahead and replaced the logic board (and therefore the graphics cards) anyway. At least it was still under extended warranty.

While we're talking about interesting behaviour, a reply to my earlier post suggested that it was not the NVIDIA cards that were the problem, but the way they were built into the MBP that was causing the problem because the heat they create could not be dissipated effectively - and certainly whenever I am running graphics-heavy programs my MBP does get incredibly hot, especially around the MagLock power coupling.

What's even more worrying is that this post, my reply to it and another post replying to that have now disappeared. I wonder why? I'll be screenshooting this one just in case.

Update. Genius bar visit: showed GPU panic in console logs. The tech immediately recognized nVidia problem and suggested to send out for offsite logic board replacement. Promised to bring it back in 3-5 days - for $310 (no AppleCare).

In just 2 days I was called to pick it up. Not only they replaced the LB, they also replaced the display (I had some weird faint white spots, that I never mentioned). No additional charge! Feels almost like a new machine!

Yup, add mine to the list as well since today.

Still have the problem after a reinstall.

Locked the graphics to integrated at this point, hopes that at least makes my macbook workable again

My (repaired) Mac has starting having some kinds of panics, but they don't say GfxCpu ... still, the graphics subsystem is implicated.

Anyone else seeing things like this?

Macbook retina 2013 early frequest GPU panic with NVRAM read error issue has been fixed after reapplying thermal paste.

Add mine to the list as well - Mid-2012 Retina MBP.

First AppleStore visit - reinstall. Second visit hardware was ok, they said it's probably some faulty app. Went home and couldn't boot the Mac. Managed to get it booted and ran an updated Time Machine / CCC Backup.

Earlier in the week it was crashing almost 6+ times a day. Put Mac into a bag and it hand not shutdown so after an hour when I took it out, it was very hot !

I've now tried gfxCartStatus with Integrated for a few days before another AppleStore visit on Thursday.

I'm experiencing the same problem since last monday. My Macbook is Retina 8GB Ram, mid 2012. The problem is obviously asociated with GPU heating. The first thing I did is to install a temperature monitor. I used this one. It is very usefull to notice current temperature of "Graphics Processor Chip 1" and "Graphics Processor Temperature Diode". At first, that components temperature used to rise near 60º Celsius, untill the panic event. So I installed smcFanControl (which you can download here). This little app lets you set the minimal speed for each fan. This way I could keep a lower temperature for GPU (even under 40º setting fans speed to the maximum speed). So I could keep on using my Macbook.

I decided to investigate if there was a fisical cause for the heat rising of GPU. So I got a 1.2 Pentalove screwdriver and removed the lower case. I found a lot of dust and a relatively big lint in the air path of each one of the two fans (just after the fan and before a kind of dissipator). Of course I cleaned all that. For my surprise I've been running my Mac without smcFanControl (minimum speed setted to 2000 RPM) and temp for GPU keeps arroud 50º Celsius, which doesn't produced panic events for two hours. I'll tell you if this behaviour changes at any moment.

When I had this problem and the system panicked, I was able to close my laptop and take it to the Apple Genius bar. Since I brought it in the failed state, they were able to diagnose my problem on the spot and in less than 5 minutes. 36 hours later I had a laptop with a new logic board and no problem.
