safari 5.1.10

Hi,

Has anyone else found that the link for the Safari Update 5.1.10 listed in the support downloads page actually links to 5.1.9?

I'm trying to download the package to deploy over a network. Didn't really want to login to each machine to install manually via the software updates option becasue there are lots of them...

Thanks

Yup...I've been backing up with time machine. I read that the outlook issue is because Safari did not quit before the update. If that is true, will rolling back, then updating safari again fix the outlook problems?? And would an upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion solve the outlook issues with not being able to reply, forward, or create new email? I was waiting for Mavericks, but chances are I may need to update to 10.7. or 10.8 anyway before mavericks, do you think? My outlook 2011 has other issues, so I may have to uninstall it someday soon anyway. thanks!

First, I too have seen the downloads page say an older version...even when a newer version is out. If I reset Safari, sometimes it then shows the correct page. Then, it will revert to the old page, but if you keep hitting it, the newer one shows up. This ONLY happens on the same day as a release. It seems sometimes, the update page shows the older version for a short time. I too thought I was going crazy. This behavior always seems to happen on the day of the release.

Second, whenever I manually install something in SL, then open Software update, it never lists the version number there. Like I said, the version number is missing but the name of the update is there. I read someone's explanation of this a long time ago on these forums. There is a way to edit some file somewhere to add it. But, it's not that important to me. But, I wanted to confirm that not seeing a version number from a manual install seems to be normal.

This is a cacheing problem. Safari has a fairly aggressive cache which will hang onto old versions of web pages, but you can clear this. However some ISPs run their own cache and this can be a nuisance. My ISP does this, with the result that when I update one of my web pages it can be quite difficult to get any of my browsers to show the change, even though the new version is definitely on the server.

Thanks for that explanation. That is what I remember my reference saying too and it explains what some have seen here. On a side note, I'm hoping (and I'm glad to see Safari for us SL users) that even though not listed that other updates have found their way into these Safari updates. I know the Safari for Lion and ML have new features and have seen some webkit updates, so I'm hoping there might be some unspoken security updates built into safari for SL.

thanks everyone. I like exploring why things don't seem to be working quite the way I want or expect them to. I went to the mac store this afternoon and it was suggested that an upgrade to Mountain Lion might fix my issues. Of course they also make money by me doing that! As I mentioned earlier I was waiting for Mavericks, but not sure if one can jump from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
