"Disk was not ejected properly" error shows up everytime I wake up my imac... started a days back

Same issue here with a Lacie TB drive 😟

Steven, uninstall all software that came with the Lacie disk. These drivers should be avoided on modern macs.

Inquiry: is this always connected to waking up from sleep? I seem to be suddenly having the "Disk was not ejected properly..." error when nothing's actually happened, but for me it's at basically random moments - unless the warning is popping up when it wakes from sleep, and I'm just not noticing until later.

Still early days yet, but three times in three days for an alert I'd never seen before has me a bit worried.

This issue started for me when I installed Mavericks. The app "Jettison" fixed the problem for me.

I'm getting the same thing on a Thunderbolt cannected LaCie. It is extremely annoying. I wish Apple would fix it.

Just upgraded to Mavericks. I have 2 daisy chained WD 6TB self powered external hard drives on the firewire port. One 2TB SimpleTech external HD into USB A, One 2TB SimpleTech external HD into USB B, and One D-Link self powered USB Hub in USB C. Getting "Disk Not Ejected Properly" (DNEP) message after sleep on two firewire drives, and the printers on USB C need to have power cycled to reappear. DNEP does not occur if all three USB (A, B and C) data cords are disconnected from the iMac prior to sleep. Is this a power supply issue? Help?!?!?! Lee

I'm having this problem with a Lacie 4Big raid via USB 3.0. I have tried the above mentioned suplemental update, and have also tried udating my HASP driver, as per this thread.

I have a case open with Lacie so will hopefully get some support from them.

Next step is to update to Mavricks as I'm currently using 10.8.5.

I have begun having this problem too, a couple of months into using Lion. I get the message randomly when my WD Passport USB device is mounted as a Time Machine volume. I'm running on:

Model Name: MacBook

Model Identifier: MacBook2,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2 GHz

• I recently installed 4 Gb ram, but this problem doesn't seem associated with that.
• The notices that "this device was not ejected properly" began a few days ago, then became more frequent until they were definitely associated with Time Machine backup events.
• I haven't been able to complete a backup for the last 24 hours, because each one is interrupted by this message.
• The event also interrupts Time Machine, and its menu bar logo stays locked "blue" and unavailable
• The event also interrupts the finder. I cannot do anything with the desktop, open a finder window or trash (though I can open apps and utilities from the dock).
• If I relaunch the finder I lose control of the whole computer and any open apps, and have to perform an emergency shutdown (extended press of the power button).
• I tried using St. Clair Software's ejection tool, but that seemed to make the finder perform even more badly, and specifically concurred (caused?) with their Default Folder utility becoming useless and blocking the finder's own file open panel.

Anybody know how to put all these symptoms together?? Should I re-install Lion?

RE: New Mac Pro (late 2013) with LaCie externals: 2x3TB, 1x1TB (USB3), and 2x12TB LaCie 2BIG (each RAID 0 on Thunderbolt 2).

The 12TB drives were behaving perfectly when brand new (about 3 weeks old now). Then, Final Cut Pro with a certain MOTIONVFX.com plug-in occasionally caused my system to crash and reboot automatically. 😟 As a result, finder prefs (minimally) got corrupted and I couldn't even dup or delete a file or folder. PLUS, eventually, the 12's would no longer sleep with the computer and then get ejected when the Mac slept for an extended period of time and when the Mac woke up, it produced the dreaded, "DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY" message for BOTH 12's.

I tried everything: zapping PRAM, resetting SMC, rebooting, repairing permissions...Nothing worked. LaCie: No help, although they offered to send new Thunderbolt cables.

I had the same drive-not-sleeping problem with my Mac Mini for a while, and that inexplicably went away recently.

Sooooo... Here's how mine got fixed. Hope it works for you...

Last night there was a car accident (somewhere) at 2:45AM and for 2-1/2 hours we had a power outage in the entire area. At 6AM I woke the computer and the drives were once again working perfectly (and not getting improperly ejected).

The one thing I hadn't tried was shutting down the Mac PRO for an extended period (probably the same extended period of simple sleep that caused the ejection). The Mac Mini's drive-sleep problem probably also went away when it was powered down recently for lack of use.

So try it: Power-down for at least 2 hours.
