Hardware Test says "4SNS/1/40000000 Th1H128.000".

Anyone know what this means? It's Hardware Test Version 3A135 testing my Macbook Pro which has a recently replaced logic board. Originally a 2.5 GHz one it now has a 2.6 GHz board which seems to be working well though once it took a few of tries to get it to boot up (chime, blank screen, no action). So I ran the test and got this code. It's working fine right now.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 17" high res screen

That indicates that a sensor has been found to be faulty (Temperature). Bring the MBP to an Apple store genius bar for evaluation and correction.

Uninstall Firefox and see what affect, if any, it has on the temperature. If you want to keep Firefox, download it only from the Mozilla web site ( I use Firefox as my primary browser).

I am surprised at the amount of resources Activity Monitor is using, compared to mine.

The sensor issue can only be addressed at an Apple store genius bar. I would seriuosly consider reinstalling the OS. This is a guess on my part, but based on what I see this may help. Naturally you should always have your data backed up.

I quit firefox and the temperature dropped about 8°. Activity monitor shows an ap called "iavd" that's taking up close to 90% of the cpu time--do you know what that is? And do you want me to actually ninstall Firefox--do you suspect that something installed in association with it is consuming cpu time--like maybe iavd? Here are screen shots of the activity monitor with Firefox off and of istat.

If I uninstall Firefox will all my tabs be lost? If so I need to put some attention into preserving those I really want.

Well THAT certainly freed up the CPU! Here's the current activity monitor--but it's changing rapidly as things shift places. Temperature is well down--at this momebnt I see 113° or thereabouts. And that's with Skype, Firefox, and Thunderbird all running. I did have iantivirus installed but not anymore.

We have a satellite internet connection--dish is on our motorhome which we take to the desert each winter. We access it via wifi from the house when home as now. It has a 425 MB daily limit which usually causes no problem--but my wife's iPad has been trying to run an update without our knowledge for the past few days and running us over the limit until I realized it. So--I'm about to drive down the hill (we're in Southern Humboldt, CA, at a bit shy of 1900 ft) to Garberville where I can let it finish its dowload in peace and let this computer do the same while I'm at it. I'll be online again once I get there.

Thanks so much for your attention and help!

Understand that the sensor issue has not gone away and should be addressed.

If you have an additional issue, please start another discussion. It is not that I am unwilling to entertain it, but there may be other forum participants who may be more knowledgeable than I on the given issue. Besides many of my colleagues are enamored with points and you should give them the opportunity. 😁 For me the points are a minor consideration, it is the final result that counts.

When I get the time I'll open this thing up again and replace the little sensor board that's attached to the heat sink and see if that's the problem. It was loose when the board arrived and I do have the original one. If it's not the problem I'll have to contact the people I got this board from and see about getting another. It doesn't always boot up when restarted, either, so I may need to do that anyway. Thanks again for all your help!
