I don't recognise where you might be seeing that option ? All I did was plug my phone into the laptop with iTunes running; iTunes saw the phone and then I clicked "Backup iPhone". That took a few minutes to run. Once I had the backup done I clicked "Restore iPhone" and it asked me to confirm I wanted to restore to factory defaults. That took about 15 mins. Then after it rebooted and was seen again in iTunes I did a "Restore from backup" and all was good.

buggerlugs i seem to be getting u! ur explanation seems to be the clearest. 1, Do i back up from my fone or on itunes on my laptop while connected with my fone? 2. Do i ''restore iphone'' or ''restore backup'' on itunes from my laptop? 3. will I loose any thing on my phone like games documents and all after doing the restore. 4 i have ios7 will it get changed back to ios6... if i do the restore iphone? Il apprreciate more clarity. just trying to be very sure. Thanks

original post

"Mine was doing the same - push notifications kept alerting, and iMessage and FaceTime were trying to activate endlessly. It was simple for me. Plugged in to iTunes, backed up, (do not go through new setup), immediately restored from backup, done. Fixed. Took about 15 minutes and is now working perfectly."

Forgot a step

Right after I backed up, I restored to factory settings. Then (do not go through new setup)....

Maybe with a picture might help, and read through before starting to make sure you see what I am saying.

Once iOS7 is installed connect the phone to the laptop (Mine is a mac so there may be some graphics differences). Do not disconnect the phone from the laptop during this process.

Step 1 - do a Backup of the device onto the PC / Mac - note "this computor" is selected. This saves all of your games and documents etc.

Step 2 - do a Restore iPhone to factory settings - this wipes the phone and reinstalls iOS7 clean (not iOS6) - **NOTE** - I did my original download and install of iOS7 using the phone connected to the laptop and so I am ASSUMING that the original clean version of iOS7 was on my laptop. If you did yours from the phone only, I can see that the laptop MAY need to download a clean image of iOS7 from the internet - I am not 100% sure but make sure you are connencted to the internet.

Step 3 - when the phone reboots and appears back on iTunes do a Restore from back up and choose the one you just did. That reinstalls all of your stuff as it was.

When I did this, at Step 2 it asked me to install new carrier settings which I accepted.

After I did this everything worked.

I am NOT an iPhone expert or whizz kid - this is just an explanation of how I fixed mine.

Please post what apple say on this, we have hundreds of users that COULD be affected by this problem and restoring 64 gigs of data for every user is not an option

Apple have been very quiet on this - both a proper fix and also what causes the problem

Until Apple put out a proper fix, we are recommending not to upgrade to IOS7

TrevorR-

Well, by now they just told me to first save all the info, then restore the phone, if it still had the problem, then restore it with my computer. Right now i don't have t it with me, because they also told me to call them when I had it to set some other things. When I do it, and if it works, I'll tell you 🙂

And my friends had this problem even before updating it, so in this case it wasn't iOS7.

Indeed, are think there are security tokens that exist on the device for push notifications to work, during the IOS upgrade these are sometime getting lost (which i think is what is causing the error)

The idea of plugging into itunes should send the tokens down again but for me it didn't work

People seem to get this when they upgrade the IOS generally, not just IOS7, it's not a new problem (which is why apple should fix this!)
