IOS 7 wallpaper resizing will not shrink photo to fit screen...

After update, wallpaper stretchs larger than image. Unable to resize smaller to fit screen. My photo only measures 24k @ 261x231 and is HUGE; bigger than the screen can accommodatem (shrink). Cannot resize smaller to fit screen. Any ideas/suggestions? I have tried resizing my photo (smaller crop in size and dimensions) and photos render too large for screen. Cannot resize smaller to fit. I know I am repeating myself. Just to be clear. Am I doing something incorrectly in IOS 7? Any ideas/suggestions or similar problems solving input would be appreciated.

No true Apple user cares about work arounds. We are talking here about errors in Apple programming that has been there simce the release of iOS 7.0, years ago.

This is about the disconnect at Apple with their own programming.

Try this to fix it...

go to your camera roll and tap on the picture you want to use. The picture should appear with white borders around it. Tap it once more and the picture will appear with a black background. Press your home button (the circle key on the bottom of the physical phone) and the power button (on the top right of the physical phone) at the same time. This takes a picture of the screen.

Now you can set your wallpaper with the new picture either by going into settings and choosing the picture etc. or go into your camera roll, choose the new picture and then tap the up arrow with the box icon in blue in the bottom left corner of the screen. There will be two rows of icons, scroll right to left on the bottom set of icons (there are no colours on the icons on that row) and choose the one "use as wallpaper". The picture should fit the screen and you should even be able to scale it bigger... if you wanted it that way.

It worked for me so hope it works for you!

Apple has finally acknowledged the issue (indirectly) with a fix in the latest beta build of iOS 7.1, which adds an option directly above "cancel" and "set" when setting new wallpapers to turn "motion" either on or off just for the wallpaper.

If you still have the parallax effect on (i.e. "Reduce Motion" disabled), it will still apply to the app icons and such, but not the wallpaper behind them. It also fixes the auto zoom issue when cropping.

There's rumors that the new iOS 7.1 will hit the public in March, so everyone here just has to hold tight for a few more months and they'll be no need for any third-party apps or screenshotting tricks. Unless they get stupid and ditch this option in the final build (which could happen knowing them).

You can see more about the new wallpaper settings in iOS 7.1 here.

There is a free app called "background optimizer"

It may be a little tricky to get right at first but the trick is to make the image smaller than the screen so that once saved you are able to zoom it in so it fits the screen.

Make sure that when you save the image the 'reduce motion' is off within the app, and if it asks turn on the allowance to get to your camera roll.

Then go into your camera roll and use the saved image, all you should have to do (all i have had to do) is zoom the image in so that it fits the size of the screen.

Once you get used to it, it becomes quick and easy.

Hope this helps 🙂

The best way until apple resolves this issue is to use the age old technique of the K.I.S.S. method.

1. Screen shot the original image

2. Turn your device 90°

3. Screen shot that image

4. Go to the new smaller image in camera roll

(you will notice the picture getting smaller and the black boarders getting thicker)

5. Repeat steps 2 & 3.

6. Now use that smaller image as your wallpaper/homescreen.

BAM!! Works a treat!!
