iTunes Match issues on iOS 7

I have been using iOS 7 since the release of the GM. Overall, I love it - however with the music app, specifically with iTunes Match I am very dissapointed as the usability, for me has gone quite backwards.

Firstly, I have some artists in my collection with vast ammounts of albums (Grateful Dead, Phish, etc). With iOS 6, accessing those artist's albums was instantaneous. In iOS 7, it takes approximately 10-15 seconds from the time I tap the artist to being able to view the albums. When trying to return to the Artists tab, it will also hang for at least 10 seconds.

Second, once within the albums of a particular artist, there is no longer the alphabetical slider along the side which allows me to quickly scrub through the albums. When there are a lot of albums, scrolling manually through every album (and song) is quite tedious. I honestly can't believe how much of a step back this is. Albums no longer are listed alphabetically, now they are listed based on release date.

These issues have me wihing I coud go back to iOS 6, even though the rest of the new interface is great. I can't believe how much worse the music app is now. I can't believe no one at Apple has a music library containing artists with large discographies.

If there isn't a fix to these issues, I will have to cancel my iTunes Match subscription because it is simply too frustrating waiting for things to load and not being able to browse albums efficiently.

If anyone is aware of a fix, or is also frustrated by these issues, please let me know.

Not true. Ever called in to a radio station for a contest? 10th caller gets a free something? You have 10000 people dialing one number, and one LUCKY person happens to get in. Same thing here. Clogged servers, but some LUCKY people/devices get in when a connection frees up, and they get their Match.

But, I don't think if they were to turn match off and back on they'd be so lucky.

Funny thing, I was also experiencing the same problems on my iPad 4 during the beta cycle, but when I upgraded yesterday to final Match is working fine on that. It also is wrking fine on my main iMac, but my MacBook air is not working with Match so 50/50 in my house.

By the way, every time I downgraded to iOS 6 during the beta cycle iTunes match would work without issue.

as for Hallucinating...I gave up the LSD in the early 90's ;-)

Why would I turn it off if it's working? I am worried about syncing today from iPhone, since the service is clearly flaky, but so far between my iPhone and iPad it appears to be syncing ok too, it's just some of my devices can't get to the service. I'm hoping the cloud itself is ok, it's just an issue with some or all devices seeing it.

And iTunes doesn't look like it works, because any cloud music showing in your library will be greyed out, so you can't actually play it.

And yes, if you have a device that isn't connecting, desktop/laptop or mobile device, if you turn it off and turn it back on, everything that was showing will go away, because you turned it off and cleared the local library. When you turn it back on, it can't get the library so yeah, it shows nothing.

You will find yours is NOT working, and that while you may have most or all of your stuff there, nothing is probably updating or syncing.

If anyone can confirm that their iTunes (Mac or Windows) or Music app with Match is FULLY FUNCTIONAL and they can turn match off and back on (or even do a successful update Match), please post.

Even iTunes looks like it works, but the cloud icon has the "Z" in it, which mean problems.

Yeah, not really true. It can be server side and any variety of combinations can mean some get through and others don't. I have both iOS 7 devices that CAN access the service, and iTunes 11.0 and iTunes 11.1 devices that cannot. I also have an iOS 6 device that cannot access the service.

It's not software/firmware related.

I dont really but yinto that theory, Im a network engineer and i work with servers and networks all day. When a server is congested its universally across the board crapped out. I have a perfect connection with my ipad 4 and have done all day, no problems whatsoever... The ipad 4 would have exibited some failure through the day to allign with the theory of congestion. To have one device completely stonewalled and one acting perfectly is NOT congestion.

You're missing the point. "Working" means it works normally, and "normal" is being able to turn it off and back on and have your library there in short time. When I've done it in the past, my iCloud library shows up rather quickly.

Turning it off does not "clear the local library". Turning it off while holding the shift key does clear the local cache. Just turning it off and back on should not be a big deal. My point is if you did it now, you'd probably be back to "Loading iTunes Match" like the rest of us!

I'm sorry, but I think you'll find you're not the only engineer here. It can be that the setup service is maxed out, but once you're logged in you're delegated to a server that takes further care of you. It's not as if there is one single server involved, obviously. But if you feel sure this can't be the explanation you can safely disable iTunes Match on the device it works on for now, leave it off for a while and then turn it back on. Should all work fine then! I'm pretty sure you'll find that it won't work so dandy though.
