iTunes Match issues on iOS 7

I have been using iOS 7 since the release of the GM. Overall, I love it - however with the music app, specifically with iTunes Match I am very dissapointed as the usability, for me has gone quite backwards.

Firstly, I have some artists in my collection with vast ammounts of albums (Grateful Dead, Phish, etc). With iOS 6, accessing those artist's albums was instantaneous. In iOS 7, it takes approximately 10-15 seconds from the time I tap the artist to being able to view the albums. When trying to return to the Artists tab, it will also hang for at least 10 seconds.

Second, once within the albums of a particular artist, there is no longer the alphabetical slider along the side which allows me to quickly scrub through the albums. When there are a lot of albums, scrolling manually through every album (and song) is quite tedious. I honestly can't believe how much of a step back this is. Albums no longer are listed alphabetically, now they are listed based on release date.

These issues have me wihing I coud go back to iOS 6, even though the rest of the new interface is great. I can't believe how much worse the music app is now. I can't believe no one at Apple has a music library containing artists with large discographies.

If there isn't a fix to these issues, I will have to cancel my iTunes Match subscription because it is simply too frustrating waiting for things to load and not being able to browse albums efficiently.

If anyone is aware of a fix, or is also frustrated by these issues, please let me know.

No I'm seeing your point exactly as you stated. "Working" isn't the same as performing, that's why it's actually a terrible term to use. I'm an RF engineer and I deal everyday with things "working" but that dosn't mean they work well.

I agree with you, if i turn it off and turn it back on there's a chance it won't "work" anymore on my iPhone. I'm saying, why would i disable something that is performing as I think it should?

As for the congestion issue, and the "performance" versus "working" question, I deal with devices everyday that establish a link and maintain it, but the moment I sever that link, I can't reconnect.

On my laptops and desktops, when I turn off iTunes Match and turn it back on, none of the old music that was once showing greyed out comes back. If that's not my "local" or "cached" library disappearing after I turned it off, and then not coming back when I turn it on (because it isn't connecting to the service to retrieve it), then I don't knwo what it is. That said, I don't work with software, and don't pretend to know what happens behind the scenes with iTunes so I'll concede that the appropriately terminology for what happens to the library when Match is turned off escapes me. I'm speaking on observations only on that topic.

Why would I turn it off if it's working? I am worried about syncing today from iPhone, since the service is clearly flaky, but so far between my iPhone and iPad it appears to be syncing ok too, it's just some of my devices can't get to the service. I'm hoping the cloud itself is ok, it's just an issue with some or all devices seeing it.

And iTunes doesn't look like it works, because any cloud music showing in your library will be greyed out, so you can't actually play it.

And yes, if you have a device that isn't connecting, desktop/laptop or mobile device, if you turn it off and turn it back on, everything that was showing will go away, because you turned it off and cleared the local library. When you turn it back on, it can't get the library so yeah, it shows nothing.

You're missing the point. "Working" means it works normally, and "normal" is being able to turn it off and back on and have your library there in short time. When I've done it in the past, my iCloud library shows up rather quickly.

Turning it off does not "clear the local library". Turning it off while holding the shift key does clear the local cache. Just turning it off and back on should not be a big deal. My point is if you did it now, you'd probably be back to "Loading iTunes Match" like the rest of us!

Absolutely. ;¬) I leave all options open. But my primary suspect is server side. Simply because I'm on iOS7 for months now, have used iTunes Match daily and it started playing up today. So my device is unchanged, but iTunes Match behavior changed. That combined with lots of people that have lots of problems on lots of devices, including iTunes 10.5, this reeks like a server issue to me.

Anyway, we'll see ;-)

Sorry but all that "proves" is that the service is acting funky and as a result, your software might also be acting funky. It doesn't mean the software is the reason. Garbage in is garbage out buddy.

Just wanted to add this....

When I turn iTunes Match off from 2 places under settings.

The playlist appears but not the songs....

This is not a server issue but more like iOS software problem.

Go ahead and try it you will see what I'm talking about.
