iTunes Match issues on iOS 7

I have been using iOS 7 since the release of the GM. Overall, I love it - however with the music app, specifically with iTunes Match I am very dissapointed as the usability, for me has gone quite backwards.

Firstly, I have some artists in my collection with vast ammounts of albums (Grateful Dead, Phish, etc). With iOS 6, accessing those artist's albums was instantaneous. In iOS 7, it takes approximately 10-15 seconds from the time I tap the artist to being able to view the albums. When trying to return to the Artists tab, it will also hang for at least 10 seconds.

Second, once within the albums of a particular artist, there is no longer the alphabetical slider along the side which allows me to quickly scrub through the albums. When there are a lot of albums, scrolling manually through every album (and song) is quite tedious. I honestly can't believe how much of a step back this is. Albums no longer are listed alphabetically, now they are listed based on release date.

These issues have me wihing I coud go back to iOS 6, even though the rest of the new interface is great. I can't believe how much worse the music app is now. I can't believe no one at Apple has a music library containing artists with large discographies.

If there isn't a fix to these issues, I will have to cancel my iTunes Match subscription because it is simply too frustrating waiting for things to load and not being able to browse albums efficiently.

If anyone is aware of a fix, or is also frustrated by these issues, please let me know.

I fixed mine (I think, it might have been a coincidence) by hooking my iPhone up to my iMac. iPhone had iTM enabled. Launched iTunes (11.1) and went to Store --> Update iTunes Match. Once iTM on the iMac went barber pole, the progress bar on the iPhone started to fill up. It took only a few seconds. When finished, I unhooked the phone and power cycled. Went back into the Music app and it stuck. If anyone else has done this, please post.

It works like a charme now for me.

1. Install itunes 11.1.

2.turn on mac in tunes itunes match off

3.turn on again and authorize your computer

4.click on update itunes match

On your ios device go to settings-general-reset-reset all

Then type your wifi connection with password again

Sign in itunes with your itunes match id

Open itunes match in general-music

Thats it...works great..for my 13300 songs the ipod 5 need about 10 min to load the full library

My iPhone and iPad are updating fine now... just created a test playlist on my mac, and it pushed out to the iphone and ipad. I deleted it on my iPad and it deleted on my iPhone... Oddly enough, it's still showing up on my Mac. Has anyone had itunes match before? If so, should deleting a playlist on your idevice push back to your mac (and delete it there) too?

I haven't used it before so I'm not sure.

Mine is working now too. but it wont let me download the songs that have been played or downloaded. before this update, I could go in and "swipe" on songs to delete them to free up storage space. (songs that play actually get downloaded to the iphone as you play them so once a week or so I go through and delte a few of them to free up space) now I cant do that, has anyone else had this problem?

also all day I have not been able to open the itunes store app on phone. I havent read all the posts on this thread but I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem as well?

I purchased a CD and iTunes match doesn't play two of the tracks on the album, it just skips the tracks. Could this be a server problem that will resolve over time? I have no songs on my iPhone 5 since it is only 16 gigabytes but having my entire music library in the cloud with iTunes match works great. I have ios7 and itunes 11.1. I can play songs anywhere through 4G connection on iphone. I hope it is just a problem that resolves itself with server.

Now that everyone's music is reappearing, let's get back to the real problem: ITM itself is horrible under iOS7.

I have to scroll SONG BY SONG through each album! Why would Apple remove the album view? Example: I have over 40 Miles Davis albums. If I want the oldest one, it's right there. If I want a later album, I've gotta do some serious scrolling to get to it.

I'm not fond of iOS7's appearance in general, but I'll live with it if they can restore ITM's functionality.

I'm still able to sort by album, artist, or song. I'm not sure of what your settings are, but in the bottom control bar of the music app for me, I have Radio, Playlists, Albums, Artists and moved songs and genre and everythign else to the "more" screen.

*EDIT* - I get what you're talking about now where you can't just go into a sub-menu for Album before scrolling to different songs on said album.

Beam (as well as Helix and OP):

Much like you, I'm really peeved by this issue. It's a huge step backward. For instance, I'm a huge fan of Pearl Jam and have 60 albums of theirs (9 studio, the rest all live records). Now, to get to the latest, I have to spend 30 seconds scrolling all the way down the list. That's not efficient at all. The way it was before — you get a list of albums once you click on the artist, then click on an album to get the songs — should never have been changed.

Second, I consider myself a power user and sort all my albums using the "sort album" tag in iTunes. Previously, that carried over both over syncing and iTM. Now, it ignores it completely. Even my old, trusty iPod Classic still pays attention to it.

I understand that most people don't set their sort order, but for those of us who do — and have spent tons of time doing it — why is this no longer the case?

I spoke with a senior technician yesterday and let him know of these issues. He documented them and is sending them directly to a programming engineer at Apple. I have his name, phone number and contact info and intend to follow up.

He agreed that iOS 7 should be adding functionality — not taking it away!
