Recently updated to IOS 7. Data and MMS is not working with Straight Talk. I currently have an Iphone 4S and everything was working up until I updated my phone. Any solutions?

Maybe I am totally missing something here. But, Mac Man No Longer in Japan. You are saying that you are running IOS 7 and upgraded to the new ST Sim and it is Data, Text, MMS are working without changing APN settings? I have one phone that is still on earlier version of IOS because of the MMS. I do have a new ST Sim in it. I would like to go to IOS7 but have not in fear of not being able to get MMS working. I know I can get Data working with Unlockit.co.nz but that still does not fix MMS

Thanks for your post, vjbl2004! Like everyone else here, I wasn't able to bring up Straight Talk data after installing iOS 7. And, like you, my Straight Talk SIM was well over a year old. The T-Mobile SIM swap solution is a clever hack, but I was drawn to your description of your experience with a new Straight Talk SIM, so that's the direction I took.

In the meantime, I removed the APN attempts I had previously made and waited for the SIM to arrive FedEx. It arrived promptly, and I cut it down to nano-size to fit in the iPhone 5. When I first switched to Straight Talk, I carefully followed online instructions using a template, etc., etc., to cut the SIM. This time, I just eyeballed it, and carefully trimmed with sharp scissors to match my first one.

From that point on, the exprience was pretty sublime. I live in the mountains of New Mexico — miles from any cellular reception. But I wanted to see how much I could accomplish over WiFi. I did all I thought I could do on Straight Talk's website. I was impressed to see that the phone's new name showed up immediately in Settings/About/Name. Encouraged, I went to bed with the intention of going for a hike the next day in an area where I could test cellular.

Today, driving to the trailhead, as soon as I got even close to a reception area, a text message popped up on the screen, as well as 143 emails — no WiFi connection. When I stopped at the trailhead, I checked phone, maps, etc. Cellular, it seems, now works at a noticeably higher speed than I've ever experienced on this phone. And I did nothing but install the new ST SIM, and activate it online. No need to **** with APN settings at all. I think that was worth $7.36, including shipping, for the new SIM. Now, if ST would just offer nano-SIMs...

Thanks, so much, for steering me in the right direction! jphenson, if you haven't made the switch, now's the time.

Fear Not!

Before installing my new AT&T based straight talk SIM, I deleted my current APN settings at Settings->General->Profile. I then removed the old SIM and installed the new one. I went to the StraightTalk website and followed the directions for activation. It took me to a page that contained a link for "new" APN settings. I installed the new settings and once installed, I think I had to reboot the phone. Once rebooted, I had complete functionality: cellular, data and yes, MMS. No more SIM swap to manually input APN settings. The APN settings that are installed through StraightTalk enable full data capability. BTW, I updated to OS 7.0.4 today and everything still works. Back when I was using the old AT&T SIM, I would likely be doing another manual entry of APN settings using the SIM swap method.

Finally no more worries about carrier or iOS updates. Best $7 I ever spent!

Mac Man,

So the new sim card you got from ST is ATT based. I thought ST was dumping ATT and going to TMobile, so I thought their new sim cards would be TM based??? I have a 4S that is still on IOS 5 because it is jailbroken and can manually change the apn settings without having to use the sim card swap method (I dont have a TM sim card to do the sim swap). I have always used the following settings:

APN att.mvno

Username (should stay blank)

Password (should stay blank)

MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com

MMS Proxy 66.209.11.33:80

MMS Max Message Size 1048576

MMS UA Prof URL http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

Cellular Data, Internet, and MMS have always worked.

Yesterday my internet stopped working so I called ST and was given a new APN to install to my phone:

http://iapnupdatetfdata.straighttalk.com/

I asked ST if this APN setting would work on IOS 7 for everything Cellular, Data and MMS. The person from ST told me it would. I tried this setting on my current IOS 5 iphone 4S and MMS did not work.

I looked at the APN settings and they are now tfdata settings which I thought were used for the Tmobile apn settings.

I would like to buy a new sim card from ST if I know I can update my phone to IOS 7 and the APN settings from ST will work for MMS without having to change them.

I think a lot of people with iPhones get confused and think MMS is working when it really is not. iPhone users are able to send MMS (Picture Messages) simply because iMessage is sending everything through. To really know if your MMS is working or not, you will have to send a Picture Message to a Android user. Whenever I try this with my current APN settings from ST, I get a failed to deliver message.

Can you verify that with your new sim card from ST and their APN settings that your MMS is working on IOS 7, and you are able to send Picture messages to Android users?

Thanks Mac, I hope this will help clear a lot of confusion.

Not knowing whether this forum is monitored by a computer program or a human being, I’m not sure to whom I should address this post, so I’m replying to my own post. I am amazed, on revisiting this thread, to find that a perfectly benign, acceptable word I used in that post has been replaced with four asterisks, as if there was something foul or unacceptable about it. The reason I object — and am amazed — is that because the word has four letters, the asterisks suggest to other readers that I wrote something truly objectionable. Which I did not.

If this censorship occurred due to a poorly functioning program, that’s understandable, while being problematic. But if it was done by a human being, I would suggest that overly developed moralism has run amuck. Get a grip.

First of all, the APN settings you list are exactly what I used to manually enter into my iPhone 4s using the SIM swap method. I purchased what StraightTalk calls an "AT&T compatible micro SIM" directly from their website a couple weeks ago. I then went onto their website and followed the activation instructions to the letter. Part of those instructions took me to http://iapnupdatetfdata.straighttalk.com/ and once downloaded, I installed the StraightTalk provided APN settings. I no longer have to do the SIM swap. I don't believe the StraightTalk APN settings will work with the older AT&T compatible SIM that I removed from my iPhone (probably the same one you are using now). Just this morning, I sent a photo to someone who is using an Android phone and she received it successfully. I have iOS 7.0.4 on my iPhone, by the way. When they pushed this update this past week, it installed cleanly and it didn't result in the loss of data or MMS capability like I used to experience with the older AT&T SIM with the manually entered APN settings. Fear not, go for it!

Okay I'm sorry if I come off a little slow but I am seriously confused.

Okay so This guy helped me a year ago set up my iphone since then he has moved and i have to do this by myself. everything has worked great except i could never send picture messages but until this morning my data wasnt working and then i decided to update to 7 and my cellular data is still not working! my texts and calls do work fine though.

Okay so i have this APN app on my iphone that he told me never to delete so im guessing that is what yall are talking about.

So basically i need to go to Ebay and buy a tmobile sim card? (activated or unactivated sim?)

then go to that apn app and adjust the settings and my data should work? can i go to walmart and buy a sim card ??

I have an iphone 4 not unlocked will it still work? thank you for helping in advanced!

I just switched to Straight talk and got a phone signal on my 4s but no data. I tried the old SIM and everything to get to APN setting with no luck. So I went to try putting in the new SIM and restore from backup (made earlier today) and it told me to turn off "find my iphone" I did this and turned off my phone.

When I turned the phone back on (still connected to the computer), before I could hit "restore" iTunes popped up a message that new network configurations were available for my phone. I clicked download and it did it's thing in a few seconds. About 10 seconds later I noticed the network name on top changed from HOME to TFW and my data works! Hope this helps somebody.

OK, so I have a iPhone 4S with an older AT&T compatible micro sim card that I got from Straight Talk a long time ago, I would say at least a year ago. Since my phone was jailbroken I never updated my IOS, I was still on IOS 5. In order to get my Cellular Data and Internet plus MMS (text and picture messaging) working, I would always manually change my APN settings. (I was only able to change the APN settings because my phone was jailbroken and I had the MyWi app which allowed me to get to the cellular network settings; I could of used the sim swap method but I never had another sim card to do this) I was able to send and recieve picture messages to Android users. Picture messaging always worked with iPhone users because it always went through iMessage. About a week ago my internet stopped working, I was still able to send and recieve calls but I could not use the internet through the cellular network only through my wireless network at home. So I called Straight Talk and I was told to update my APN settings by going to http://iapnupdatetfdata.straighttalk.com/ on my phone using the wireless. I was hesitant at first because I had used Straight Talk's previous APN settings using www.unlockit.co.nz, and I wasnt able to get MMS working. Anyways I needed to get my internet working again because I was going on a trip and I needed to use the maps app. After updating the APN settings my internet started to work again but my MMS did not. Since my phone was still jailbroken I was able to change the APN settings and I got everything working again, but I was still on IOS 5.

Today, I am happy to announce that I finally upgraded to IOS 7 and everything is still working. I have Celluar, Data/Internet, MMS, iMessage, Picture messaging to Android users, everything! 🙂

When I called Straight Talk last week the rep on the phone told me the new APN settings would work with everything. (I was skeptical, and I was right because my MMS wasnt working, but I now believe because I was still on IOS 5) Now that I am on IOS 7 my phone is not jailbroken anymore and I cannot manually change my APN settings, I am just using the latest settings from Straight Talk. (go here - http://iapnupdatetfdata.straighttalk.com/)

About updating my phone. I connected to iTunes and backed up my phone before update the software to IOS 7. After that I started the update. During the update the was some sort of error and the update did not finish. I unplugged my phone and plugged it back in. iTunes said my phone was stuck in recovery mode and needed to be factory restored. I did this because I knew I could restore my phone from when I had backed it up earlier to my laptop. So the phone restored and then it was able to update to IOS 7. I also got same message as kentuckianbob (look at response above) iTunes popped up a message that new network configurations were available for my phone. I continued and the network configurations were updated as well. I noticed my phone also says TFW for the name of the network. After all the updates I restored my phone to the earlier backup and all my info (contacts, photos, music, etc) is back on my phone.

So I recommend anyone wanted to update to IOS 7 go ahead and be sure to use the newest and latest APN settings for Straight Talk. I also wanted to note that I did not use a newer sim card from Straight Talk. You can order one online if you would like to from Straight Talk but my old sim card works just fine. Before doing updates be sure to backup your phone to iTunes.

Good Luck everyone, I hope this clears up some confusion.
