How do I limit the number of emails displayed in iOS 7?

I prefer to display only 100 emails from each of my mailboxes on my apple devices, but with iOS 7 it's showing all my emails, and there doesn't seem to be an option to limit this in settings as there was previously?

i've been an OSX only user since 2007 and my first and only smartphone up to now was an iphone. everything in my home is apple.

this is the first time i am seriously considering switching to android.

i have a 16GB iphone 5c, brand new; there's hardly over 1GB of music on it. less than 1GB of photos and when i check the usage in settings, my app which takes up the most space is just over 1GB.

i've already deleted all apps i don't really use.

and i am UTTERLY out of space. constantly! all because of this email thing! i do not delete emails. ever. that's what imap is for!!! i don't WANT to delete emails. and if apple tries to force me into buying even more online storage or tries to make me purchase a phone with more space on it i WILL change to android.

this is ABSURD! i do not need over 5000 emails on my iphone but am not ready to change my habits. because they are NOT bad habits.

Boy, I'm with you! We had that funtion on iOS6, but then they dropped it.

I think all we can do is use the suggestion form.

for iPhone, which is where I'm experiencing he problem: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

for iPad:http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Of course, they both use iOs. But there is no suggestion form for iOS. Might as well complain about the issue for both devices. I have.

If you're using POP you can

a) delete each mail after having read it

b) delete each mail after your mailbox exceeds 100

c) delete packagewise (that's what I'm doing with my POP accounts, after 2 weeks I delete the lot)

If you're using IMAP you can

archive all mails you don't want in your phone to the local folder in Apple Mail on your OSX device. This will remove all your mails you don't want on your phone. You still have a copy on your OSX device.

Delete all mails in your trash (removed 0,5 GB last time I did it.

Wait for iOS 8 out in September

I'm using Macs since 1996 (MacOS 7:)). There's always been ups & downs but never hit me hard enough to change to incapable systems.

i don't know why but all of a sudden all these unread messages are showing up on my phone? I've been using pop mail forever but it's just been the last couple of weeks i started having issues. And to make matters worse Apple has chosen to tell us what we want ,by not letting me bulk delete all the emails on the phone.

THis is the last straw for me, I never was an Apple fanboy. But at one time Apple products just worked. Now my ipad is pretty much useless as it does all kinds of weird stuff like capita zing the first two letters and changing proper spelling into jibberish, rebooting frequently, crashing frequently when using Safari, etc. And now this email issue which was probably just fixed in an update and I'm just now seeing the results.

FOr those of you that went from Microsoft to Apple please know that Windows is very solid since vr.7. I also just found out the newest release of Android is actually quite nice!

looks like some poor sucker is going to get stuck with a 64 gb iPad and 16 gb iPhone as Apple has will no longer be allowed to ruin my days with the poor service they are providing. personally I think Apple is going to loose market share and Steve is not around to save their butts this time.

I quite agree with @mocho99. Apple is raising complacency into an art form. Like a magician trying to fool an audience, they're constantly trying to get users to focus on their "next big thing" while they ignore the crippling bugs and functionality issues in their current products.

To misquote Lewis Carroll, with Apple it is always jam tomorrow – but never jam to-day.

I found a partial solution for gmail accounts.

Follow this howto:

http://www.cnet.com/how-to/receive-push-gmail-alerts-on-ios-after-losing-actives ync-support/

After adding a "non-public" iCloud account, I couldn't find an easy way to limit the days of emails shown on the iPhone but at least if you seriously never share your icloud account you can routinely delete all emails from the icloud mailbox without any change to the way you handle your "real" gmail account.

Pros:

- it is a step in the right direction

- it gives you back push email with the native app with gmail

- it allows you to keep storage low on your iphone w/o changing your gmail behaviour

Cons:

- you need to manually purge icloud to keep storage use low on iphone

- when you flag an email in the native app, you don't flag it in gmail

The last point is what made me realise this workaround is not good enough for me, but maybe this is useful information to someone else.

good luck!
