How do I limit the number of emails displayed in iOS 7?

I prefer to display only 100 emails from each of my mailboxes on my apple devices, but with iOS 7 it's showing all my emails, and there doesn't seem to be an option to limit this in settings as there was previously?

I was a previous apple user and have recommended them to everyone for the phones ease of use. I changed to android as verizon did not have apple at the time and was looking forward to making the switch back. I finally made the switch back to apple and it's a real shame that a simple option to limit the number of emails to 50, 100 etc. has been removed.

I have to say I'm starting regret my decision as apple has decided to regress instead of progress in terms of features being offered on their phones. Screen size and quality, photo quality, overall features, customization is lacking on the iphone. Look at the big picture apple, like you use to, and be ahead of curve not behind.

This madness. I had to delete my email account on the the 5s adfter only one day because it woundnt stop downloading. It was downloading old emails form months ago and marking them as unread. I killed it when it got to 500!!

Someone told me to download the App (ie: Gmail app, etc) and manage my mail that way. In my case its Sympatico. I will try that. It should work.

But this is a HUGE f-up. They need to fix it ASAP!

Download Evomail, free app that can use all providers, has folders too. Never thought Apple would leave something like this outstanding for this long. Not as if it is something new, the old mail had the ability to restrict how many emails you wanted on you device. Apple mail app now buried in a folder with other poor apple apps. Shame. May switch to something else when the time comes. Once was a time I wouldn't consider it but they are letting things slip.

Problem solved by deleting and re-adding your email accounts. When you do that, you can choose how many days to synchronize. Now I just get the normal notifications for new emails only.

Not for a plain-vanilla POP account. What very few people are pointing out in all these comments is that it depends whether you have a POP account or an IMAP account. If you delete a bunch of messages off your phone and it's an IMAP account, they will also disappear from your computer.

Maybe Hotmail will let you choose how many days of mail to synchronize, but the POP account I just tried did not.

This is absolutely infuriating. I'm drowning in e-mail. I had my mail boxes set to only show a few weeks of e-mails at a time, now I have hundreds of unwanted e-mails on my phone and no way of deleting them. And it just keeps loading more any time I try to go and find these unread e-mails that I supposedly have on my phone.

I tried deleting an account and adding it again, didn't work.

I had one mail box marked as having 11 unread e-mails. I selected "mark all as read" and it was still showing me that 7 e-mails are unread. How is this possible? After that, the e-mail box refreshed looking for new e-mails and everything reverted itself to exactly what it was before I did "mark all as read." I'm somehow back to 11 unread e-mails. They just reverted themselves back to being "unread."

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET ANY WORK DONE LIKE THIS?????

Annoyed customer!!!!

I have a strong theory as to why Apple made this change, and it is very simple and I am almost 100% sure it is correct.

They want to sell phones and other devices with more memory. If everyone has to download thousands of emails, than it will use several gig of memory and it will not leave space for other things like apps movies...

They are in it for the money, not for the users convenience. I am very dissapointed. Just paid about 800 bucks for a phone that is now not big enough for what I need.

Annoyed Customer with 1 Iphone, 1 Ipad 3, and 1 Ipad 4.In the future I guess I will go with samsung.

We also have an issue with the removal of this setting. I use MobileIron and Exchange 2013. I recently noticed that having over 50 items in my Inbox folder causes the inbox on my iPhone 5 to stop synching with my mail file. It would seem that the default, while not configurable, may still be set to 50 somehow. I am continuing testing on this, and it may only be this way because I had the limit set to 50 while on previous versions. It would be nice for this setting to be added so we could at least test to see if this is what causes the bug.

Like many, thank you to those that have posted suggestions, nothing seems to work for my POP3 emails.

I have the same issue, been reading these posts and I too have thought about changing phones but the reality is, you can use another email app for your accounts. I have played with a few of them but now, with all this chatter, I figure waiting or hoping for a fix is useless and just like I did when the "improved" the podcast app, I will find and use a new email app that is more than likely, a wonderful improvement.

I have been messing with Boxer and like it. It is taking me a bit to get used to but I suspect it will work. I saw a suggestion for Evomail. Do any of you have any other suggestions of something you REALLY like?

This is crazy, and doesn't do Apple's customer care reputation any favours. This issue is driving Apple users around the World nuts, and Apple do not even have the decency to publicly address it or offer any explanantion.

Our business uses a number of Apple products, both Ipads and Iphones, and all are being swamped with useless, out of date emails. My own phone is now holding over 11,000 emails, going back over a year (I have several work related accounts) that are taking up several gb's of memeory which I would rather use for something else. Come on Apple, even if you arent planning to fix the problem at least explain to your exasperated customers what the issue with restoring the previous mailbox limit is.
