How do I limit the number of emails displayed in iOS 7?

Just discovered when going through the 5S settings.

I've been using iOS 7 since July.

The only thing showing is mail headers.

According to usage, my iPad mini is only using 21MB in mail.

My 5S is using 14MB.

My 5 is using 319MB.

My mailbox has 23,000 messages. That's the inbox alone.

iOS 7 simply will preload all headers.

It will only download read messages which are loaded.

The advantage of this is faster online searching.

Steve would not have missed this issue. iOS 6 was sort of clunky limiting to the last 500 or a 1000, but it is better than what happens in iOS7. You don't even have and option for Trash when in the "Mark All". If you could mark all, then deselect ones you want to keep, it would be a step up.

What's the use of having the headers in your iPhone if you delete the messages from your server? I don't want thousands of emails sitting on line at my Verizon account, they get downloaded to the Mac and the phone and the iPad at the same time, then the after a few days the Mac deletes them from the web. The phone and ipad only need them for short periods, so having thousands of old emails that you can't access information from is just digital clutter and makes searching slower and harder, not faster.

Looks like, for Hotmail, if you delete the Hotmail account and add it back in as an Outlook account, you have options for how many days of e-mails you want to show. What a pain!!!

I think the Outlook at your office is technically different from Outlook.com (online). Not sure.

I am thinking this is another Apple adventure like their maps that take you across airport runways . . . oh and why am I feeling paranoid for dissing apple . . . I wonder . . . sad to say the love affair i have been having for the last 10 years is coming to an end . . . it began with ITunes thinking my music belonged to apple . . .

Don't get me going on itunes yum. And better yet let's talk about the disaster known as iphoto . . . the ~apple~ experience is leaving me yearning . . . has MS improved at all since I left blue screens long ago ?

Sorry yum - I have music on the phone to move to the puter, but apple won't let me . . . its THEIR system. I can delete my phone's contents if I like or buy 3rd party software that apple tries to keep one step ahead of by their continuous iTunes updates. apple cut their deal with the music industry and sold users out . . . it's a model upon which they have created Gazillions . . . oh well . . .

If it's purchased music, it will transfer back to desktop.

How did the music get on the phone initially?

The iPhone will prevent account switching if that's the case.

There's always a workaround available.

Problem solved by deleting and re-adding your email accounts. When you do that, you can choose how many days to synchronize. Now I just get the normal notifications for new emails only.

Gmail is not so friendly in that it doesn't let you choose how many days to synch for some reason, but there is a standalone app for Gmail so I just deleted the account and use that.

I went to the Genius Bar yesterday, thinking I had missed a step somewhere. The employee did not acknowledge a problem, or that. I was not the first person to raise the issue ,but rather offered the one by one method of deleting them,not addressing the storage issue.

I have deleted my POP3 accounts rebooted the phone and readded my POP3 accounts and same **** issue, 39,690 unread emails! My gmail emails where ok, i had to go to Gmail.com and mark all read, then it cleared that out on my Iphone, but my POP3 accounts still show a **** alot of emails.

IOS7 is CRAP!!!! nothing but major issues! Will Apple ever care to offer a fix for this? or are they just hoping we all ignore the fact that their pretty sleek phones will make us stupid towards the actaully functionality not working?

Samsung looks better everyday i get closer to my upgrade.........😠
