How do I limit the number of emails displayed in iOS 7?

I prefer to display only 100 emails from each of my mailboxes on my apple devices, but with iOS 7 it's showing all my emails, and there doesn't seem to be an option to limit this in settings as there was previously?

iPad 2, iOS 7

There isn't a solution: Apple, in all their arrogance, has removed the feature. The only way it comes back is if enough people complain that their software development team decides it must fix the issue*. That's why it's worth adding more posts to this thread, even if it's just a bunch of people saying the same things on repeat.

I'll add my voice to the issue: I don't like the change. it's wasteful to use sync more messages than you need, that memory can be used elsewhere.

*Just as likely, they follow the arrogant company policy of thinking that Apple can tell us what they want. I'm still an Apple fanboy, but I have no delusions about how the company operates. Okay, okay, maybe it's just the result of beef between Apple and Google.

I have Verizon email. I don't understand the post telling me to use IMAP. Do I have that option with a verizon pop account? I've only had the iPhone for two weeks but my daughters iPod has the old option of limiting emails. I want enough emails on my iPhone so that I can go back and find coupons for at least a month but I don't want all the emails on my server on my iPhone. It is not up to Apple to make me change the way I manage my email. I'm not going to manipulate the emails on my server to make my iPhone work, that's ridiculous. I use windows live mail on my computer. So any manipulation of the verizon online account is extra work for me. Also I want those emails retained on server for historic search capability but not taking up space on my phone. They need to fix this problem and create a limit on how many emails can be downloaded to the phone. They also have to improve the delete function so multiple emails or all emails could be deleted at once. Right now I can mark all emails as read but I can't delete all, stupid, and all the emails are still in my phone and taking up storage. I am afraid to try a quick fix and go from 2500 to zero, that doesn't solve my problem. I could deal with the option of setting the number of days but I don't think that will work with Verizon pop will it?

I struggled with the email issues for TOO long...finally deleted the account for about the 5th time, made a new account and it loaded all 815 emails once again!! finally discovered I had to go through and mark each one as read, then go back and put them all in the trash....and the problem was gone! Much work and "to-do" over a very annoying problem! Wonder if Apple knows or cares how many customers they lost over this most recent update. I'm not willing to give up on my iphone 5c as I just purchased it! More than annoyed😢

Let's clarify this once and for all.

First rule of Email Club is:

If you're going to use more than 1 access point for your emails, then you need to understand that POP is NOT going to serve your needs and you have to adopt IMAP.

Second rule of Email Club is:

If you use POP and have a habit of not bothering to read your messages, a firmware upgrade or new device or new PC simply means it WILL re download ALL your messages including unread ones.

Third rule of Email Club is:

If you don't know what IMAP is, Google it.

It's fascinating how people seem to keep sounding like a broken record when it comes to this issue.

Your ignorance or inablity to understand the many ways that people use email are quite apparent. While I appreciate your wanting to convert everyone to your way of thinking, it is obviously blind to what and how others have decided to use email to support their lives. All of us that disagree with you and want from Apple, is to put back a parameter that they have removed. Nothing more. Whatever they decide based on customer feedback will force customers such as myself to continue using Apple products or not. Right now, I am leaning toward telling Apple to stick it and move to another platform. In the meantime, I know exactly where to tell you to stick your sanctimonious comments.

Hi Kobimaru

My apologies for coming across the wrong way.

I'm curious as to what Apple Support has stated for those who made contact with them.

I do understand that people use email in different ways, as I myself did, and had to evolve pre-iOS.

The point was for those who are willing to seek out a solution within the existing parameters. It was inevitable that Apple would remove the artificial message limit at some point.

Let's hope any future upgrades provides solutions for all.

Have a good one.

Cheers

Wow I thought this forum was to be helpful and I pretty much get called an idiot which I am not. Now that I know what IMAP is I know it is not MY solution currently the way I choose to get email. I'll manage my email the way I want. In the world of electronic coupons you don't have to open them you just need access to them. Note you are INCORRECT, there is a storage difference on the phone with iOS 7. I still have my email loaded on my daughters iPod and there is no mail in usage. But mine is growing every day. Also note my verizon doesn't have IMAP option. The phone is acting crazy. If I delete 20 messages it loads 300 more. If verizon didn't recently switch servers I'd have 20000 like some people. And no I don't want to keep manipulating my server when I didn't have to before. I still think they need to fix this.

Okay Yahoo users here is what I did. I deleted my email account on my iphone and ipad. I then went to the App Store and downloaded the yahoo mail app. I then went into my setting and then went to notifications and turned off the badges. It shows no 5000 plus emails anymore. Once you sign in to your yahoo account using the app it only shows about 100 emails actually downloaded on my account even tho it shows over 5000. If that number bothers you just mark your emails as read. I hope this helps!!

What happened to apples famous ease of use? When people complain about their mobile device having no limit options for email they get chastised. For the amount of money we pay for this crap if people want an easy solution for the number of emails we should be able to get it.

I had a hard time choosing between the overpriced ipad or the newest android tablet, apple is definitely moving in a direction of making it easier next time.

Here is a short list of a few things ipad are "to good for" that android has.

expandable memory

screen on screen

adding contacts to calendar events (not inviting them)

email inbox limits

playing flash

We will see how it goes.

What I find most astounding about it is this:

Why would they just remove functionality? Particularly one that (as far as I know) had no issues with it.

I work in the tech department of a VAR for engineering software. The developers NEVER remove functionality from their software until they are convinced that it is either (a) faulty or (b) not in use by ANYONE. If there's a 20 seat account in Boise still using a feature, they don't remove it (although they might hide or de-emphasize it).

Heck, they have a free, Access based PDM system available to all of their subscribers, but it's LONG since been replaced by a vastly superior SQL based system. Even though they haven't developed the Access-based system for what must be at least 5 years by now, they still keep it in every major release. Why? Because a tech company that has any respect for their own customers isn't going to just suddenly throw them in the lurch by removing functioning features in use by customers.
