Any way to turn off iOS 7 navigation animations?

The zoom animations everywhere on the new iOS 7 are literally making me nauseous and giving me a headache. It's exactly how I used to get car sick if I tried to read in the car.

How do I turn them off? Do I have to revert to 6?

I have made my complaints to Apple on all of these issues.

Another unpleasant feature for me, which has been mentioned on here before is the texting fonts.

Who's bright idea was it to make recieved texts black on a light backgound and sent texts white on a darker backround, so you are constantly inverting the way you use you eyes.

Its the same principle as what happens to the rods and cones in the eyes when you stare at something red for a while then look at a white wall and see green. Again this wasn't designed thinking about usability.

Just another plea for people to voice all thier issues with IOS7 acceesabilty to Apple not just the zooming.

I "love" how this thread has people refreshing their biology/physiology knowledge ...

Yes, fixating dark-on-light text for a long enough time to cause pigment depletion and then looking at light-on-dark text will make that text hard to read. How long you'd have to fixate for that to happen will vary from subject to subject (person, not message subjet...) but it should not cause problems under normal usage. Because you don't fixate when you read a text, you scan it.

That said, I fully agree that overly bright backgrounds aren't pleasant, but that's what the brightness setting in the Control Centre should allow to arrange, no?

(And Apple's acclaimed HIG have never to my knowledge advocated an option to select anything but a white background)

Got a reply from Apple-

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Apple. At this time we want to ensure that you are aware of the current options to help reduce motion in iOS 7.

If you have an iPhone 5, iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c, you can Reduce Motion, which turns off Parallax and limits the animations of other apps and icon badges, by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion.

Additionally, you can Increase Contrast and enable Bold Text - some users have informed us that that has helped them reduce the perception of motion they encounter in iOS 7.

Apple is aware that some users may need additional motion control options. We do appreciate your feedback and will forward this information on to the appropriate people for review.

At this time, we cannot comment on when a possible solution will be made available.

I've upgraded on my Ipad 2 since two days and I'm deeply regretting to have done it!!!

IOS7 is horrible!!!

- new icons are awful

- the texts (in Twitter for ex.) are much less sharp and very difficult to read - THIS IS THE MAIN PROBLEM

- zooming and icons moving on the homepage make me sick!!!

Please let's push Apple to allow us to downgrade to IOS6 because this new OS is the biggest failure in IT world since MS Vista launch!!!!

Hi!

I agree with the previous messages.

In some functions the ios 7.02 is good, but many changes are really bad:

1. Zooming and movement effects irritate a bit

2. White interface - not good for eyes

3. New icon design, many of them are not nice and totally changed

4. So bad design for upcoming calls and green slide button doesnt work properly - when you touch it sometimes it doesnt respond

5. When i listen music and want to pause it, the pause button doesnt respond in locked position. You have to unlock the phone, get to music player and only after that pause it. Its really uncomfortable.

Please apple stuff take into considiration our suggestions for the next ios!

Looking forward to upgrading for better version!

I've been a devoted Apple user since the Macintosh 128k and have fervently defended and recommended Apple products for years....

BUT

•With the iPhone 5 being less responsive to touch that its predecessors.

•Removal of RSS from Safari in favor of twitter and facebook.

•twitter and facebook incorporated into MacOS.

•the mess that is Final Cut Pro X

•and now the mess that is iOS 7...

it seems that Apple is slowly but surely sliding out of the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field of magic.

I sincerely hope not, but based on iOS 7 alone can't see anything getting better.

  1. So it doesnt really make you sick, it just irritates you ? So thats a opinion
  2. It doesnt bother me and white is ok if the fonts are ok to be read on or the forground is a different contrast ~ So another opinion
  3. I love the new icon design and the look of them, and see some of my Favourite Apps are changing theirs too. Come on Tweetbot, push it out. ~ Yet another opinion
  4. Ive googled this, and it doesnt seem to be a concern anywhere, so it might just be your device. Try and not rush it, and make sure you hit the green in the centre ~ So this is most probably user problem not doing it correctly. Not a iOS 7 Problem
  5. Now this one again, seems to be only you ythat has the problem. Since i can remember you can pause/play from the locked screen. Check your settings, as you might have something not quite right there not allowing certain things from the Locked Screen ~ Not a iOS 7 Problem

Bit of a weak argument you have, and im betting 4 and 5 there is a bit of PEBACK there which doesnt even make it a iOS 7 Problem

Just another +1 for having the problems. I only get headaches/motion sickness under rare and avoidable circumstances, like watching some 3-D movies, but this change on my iPhone makes me queasy. This makes me sad. I usually wait after a new release to make sure all the bugs are worked out, but I guess I didn't wait long enough this time. Fortunately, I did not upgrade my iPad, so I can still use some of my apps.

I'm less than thrilled that this has been known to be a problem since the summer and Apple went ahead and released it.

I've sent an email, but I'm sure I'll get the suggestion to reduce motion. Already did that. It was going through the process of making my phone usable again that I discovered that something about this OS makes me queasy. This is so disappointing, especially when there exists decades of research about usability and the user experience.

1. By "irritate" he might have meant it irritates his eyes, not his aesthetic sensibilities. Not an opinon, but something that is displeasing to the point that it might be jarring and a cause of what's giving many of us headaches. I personally hate it.

4. I'm also having the same problem regarding responsiveness of the slide button to answer calls. Never had the issue previously.

I find the white interface DEEPLY displeasing - but I've refrained from addressing it bc this page is based on discussion of the headaches. I *DO* think the brilliant white is contributing to that, btw. As others have stated here, even looking at the phone for a minute, and it feels like I'm stabbing myself in between the eyes.

Still, even if it's merely an aesthetic concern, it's STILL a concern. I loved my iPhone (and my MacBook, iMac, and Apple TV) and the deisgn - this update (and how Apple has handled the concerns of their customers) is truly making me consider switching to an Android - I would unhesitatingly say my "trust" towards Apple has been damaged greatly.

The one thing that I like about the update is control center - but even that is cluttered. Apple would have better served their users giving a choice to take a tour of the update, and reverting back. (they also would have been better off if during beta someonementioned the motion sickness thing - since it's already a gag on Jimmy Kimmel and elsewhere, it's gotta be common enough that SOMEONE caught it before the launch.
