Ok....NONE of these works. I have tried turning on the show all music, Ive tried turning off show all music. It doesnt matter what I do, it NEVER allows me to swipe and delete. Ive tried swiping left to right, right to left, nothing, it all just plays the song. NOTE: I have iphone 4s ios 7.1.1 Also alot of people are saying to download the ones witht he clould. While the show all music being turned off makes the cloud disappear these songs are still here, and yet no swipe function available. This is extremely frustrating, and I have read all of these posts.....Please help

1.You need to remember or write down the songs that won't delete while "show all" music is off, 2.then turn on "show all" music, 3.download the songs you want to delete, 4.turn off "show all" music again & then delete them. It works.

For some reason the songs were only partially downloaded but look as though they are completely download on the iPhone. Most of the songs that wouldn't delete for me were ones I got free from Apple during the holiday or from the Starbucks iTunes cards.

If you are still trying to get rid of songs, but you already have deleted the song (but it still stays in icloud) and you have switched the "show all music" button off, then go into settings- general- usage. Once there, click on music, which is under storage, and press edit and then delete it. This is if you want to delete all of the content from your music app.

i logged out of my apple ID for several minutes.

i think this may have given time for my account to resynchronize the items i didn't want to see anymore.

i've logged back in and they're still gone.

Thank god, this worked for me! I had nearly a dozen songs that would NOT let me delete them, not via itunes, and no "just swipe left and hit delete" didn't work either.

I logged out of my Apple ID on my phone (Settings > iTunes & App Store > clikc your apple ID then click Log Out), waited a few minutes and voila when I clicked on the Music app the songs were gone. I logged back into my Apple ID and they remained gone. Thank you, this was driving me NUTS!

the upgrade to os7 brought a bunch of music into my phone i didn't care to hear anymore.

(free downloads from the itunes twitter feed..some of them are good, most of them i normally delete immediately)

i had 3 pesky songs that would not allow me to delete.

every other song in my library gave me the option to delete, just not the ones i never wanted to hear again.

..super frustrating when the song keeps starting over everytime you touch it while scrambling for a delete option.

they were purchases which i'd hidden.

i plugged to computer and tried to use iTunes to delete but they did not appear.

all "show all" options for music and video were off.

itunes match was off.

all automatic downloads were off.

"show all music" was off.

i don't care if i hear a new eric clapton song again for the rest of the year thank you.

Not sure why this hasn't been chosen as the solution as it worked perfectly for me and makes perfect sense!

I also had this question and after reading through 7 pages of this thread I decided to Google a different phrase regarding how to delete songs from the iTunes cloud. My main issue was that I am ok with having some songs play from the cloud when I'm on WiFi vs. permanently downloading to my phone, but there were some songs I had in the cloud that I didn't want.

As a result, hiding ALL the cloud songs from my overall list wasn't the solution for me, which seemed to be what many of the solutions entailed. I understood the OP to be asking the same thing (just wanting to delete a song or two). I had no luck with downloading a song from the cloud, then trying to delete by swiping (it would still show up as being in the cloud).

Anyway, even if this wasn't the same question, I bet someone else wanting to do the same thing as me may have gone through this thread to no avail, so I'm posting this as well. The "formal" instructions from Apple that I used are here: iTunes Store: How to delete songs from iCloud

All I had to do was go into iTunes on my computer, make sure all songs are showing, find the song I didn't want and then simply hit "delete". Now, you will get one of two possible pop-ups after this, depending on if you have the song downloaded to your computer or if it is only in the cloud.

If it is downloaded to your computer, you will get a prompt asking if you are sure that you want to delete the copy of the song, and that it will still be playable from the cloud - but there will ALSO be a checkbox at the bottom that allows you to select if you also want this song hidden in the cloud ("hidden" because I guess they don't really allow you to delete something that you paid for and can't really "return"). I've attached a screenshot of this window.

If the song is ONLY in the cloud (i.e. you didn't also download to your computer) you will get a similar prompt but this time it will just say if you want to hide it in the cloud up front (since there is no downloaded copy to delete from your computer). I've attached a screenshot of this as well.

When I did this, and simultaneously had the song list open on my iPhone, the change instantly took with the song vanishing from my phone in just a few seconds from when I deleted/hid on my computer.

Hopefully this helps another person!

1. Turn ON "show all music"

2. Download the songs that you couldn't delete by clicking on the cloud icon next to the song name

3. Turn OFF "show all music"

4. Swipe right to left on the song

5. Hit delete'

I have followed these five steps repeatedly, but one song keeps coming back again and again and again, showing up in the "now playing" screen, and then playing when it's not wanted because the music app activates on its own accord..

Apple claims not to know the cause of iOS glitch that causes the music app to play on its won. Apple has known about this glitch for years, FYI, but rather than resolve the problem, their only "fix" is telling people to restore the iPhone to factory settings. This action removes the glitch for a few weeks to a month, and then the music app starts playing by itself again, and usually at the most inopportune moments, too. Also, every time I upgrade to a new IOS version, the glitch kicks into gear again. It's a big hassle, really. (I doubt Steve Jobs would have tolerated this glitch going unresolved for so many years, Sigh.)

Therefore, so that the music app has nothing to play when it activates by itself, I want to remove all songs from the music program. I can do this with all but one song, as I said, which keep coming back no matter what I do, so far. I feel like I ma playing "whack-a-mole" here.

Therefore, I need a different or better and permanent solution for deleting songs from the music app once and for all time.
