OK I HAVE A SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME FOR EVERY SONG, BUT YOU GOTTA DO THE STEPS IN THAT EXACT ORDER!

step 1 : Download every song that has a cloud symbol next to it

step 2 : Once all the downloads are complete, go to settings and turn off ''show all music''

step 3 : Then you can swipe right to left and the delete button will appear and you can delete the song AND NO CLOUD SYMBOL WILL APPEAR ANYMORE.

*Remember to keep ''show all music'' OFF at all time after this.

*Screw you apple to force us to lose countless time on your stupid forums to find solutions to your **11**** AGAIN. We ain't no NASA engineers for **** sakes....

I figured out how to do this without "downloading" the song and then deleting it! It is super easy.

1. Plug phone into computer

2. Login to iTunes store

3. Under "Music Quick Links" on right hand side ... click on "Purchased"

4. From there you will have listed songs that won't freaking DELETE!

5. Hover over and hide from both categories Albums/Songs (All & Not In My Library)

Works for Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, and Books.

Yowzers!

In my case I had gotten some free songs via iTunes and they saved there as "downloaded" and they were attached via iCloud so it wouldn't let me delete them. All the songs I had downloaded let me delete them easily. Only the ones that had been added through iCloud wouldn't delete but going through "purchased" and deleting them that way worked.

With the iOS 7 and the option to download songs from iCloud, I was having the same problem. When the "show all music" option is on, any song that isnt directly downloaded onto the device that you choose to play (without downloading it from the cloud) will become visible, and not valid for the swipe to delete option, when the "show all music" is off. If you know exactly which songs are visible and you dont want them there, turn the option back on, download those specific songs from the cloud, turn the option off, and then you can delete them just like the rest. This is how i fixed the problem on my phone

To delete all of the music off of your phone, go to settings>general>usuage>let the storage load all of the apps and how much space they take up, it's where the spinning wheel is, it'll be spinning when you go in, when that loads...>click music>edit>press the red minus sign. all of the music will be off your phone. then go to your itunes library and delete permanently all songs you do not want. right click delete, obviously. then resync your phone. viola!

Since when has IOS7 ever bee an 'upgrade' ???? IOS 7 has simply degraded the cpability, utility and usefulness of the iPhone.

It used to work. Now I have to spend time trawling through endless pages of problems to do the simplest of tasks. Oh, the interface? what a total retrograde design. Did Apple employ a bunch of MS Windows techies to work on IOS7?

I still cannot delete music form my iPhone.

Pre IOS7, simply swipe the Album or trackk and it's gone.

Now ith IOS7, I have to google and trawl help pages. Why doesn't Apple put out a definitive response to this matter with a guide???

What worked for me and its actually very easy.

1. In iTunes, preferences, store make sure "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases" is checked.

2. iTunes, View, iCloud Download needs to be checked

3. iCloud icon should appear at the top of itunes window along with name, artist, date added, album and anything else you have checked under the view option.

4. Select the songs you no longer want on your iPhone and delete.

My wife had a bunch of kids songs in the cloud and they were really throwing my groove off. SONGS ARE GONE!!

I had tried the option to make all songs visible, download, and then delete but it was just taking way to long. This is much faster!

Figured it out! For some reason, some songs don't delete, even apple support was confused. BUT there is a way to delete them.

Before you can delete the songs, go to settings--> music--> and turn off both "show all music" and "itunes match." Then, go to iTunes & App Store and turn off Show All: Music and turn off Itunes Match (it's redundant, I know). Now, when you delete the songs, they won't come back.

Now head back to the main settings page and go to --> general --> usage, then wait a minute and a list of all you apps should appear --> Music. Once you've clicked on Music, there should be an "edit" button it the upper right hand corner. Click that and hit the delete button for "All Songs." This will erase every single song from your iPhone.

Now, just sync up with your computer and redownload everything (make sure the deleted songs are not on your computer or iTunes Match (if they're on iTunes match, then they'll be listed in your computer's itunes with a cloud symbol next to them).
