This was fixed on my phone just by opening and closing the Calendar app.

I dont have SoundHound installed on my iPhone. In fact, I only have 5 apps in total installed on my phone. Most of these apps from Google self, like maps and drive. Althouhg your problem went away after uninstalling SoundHound you should reboot the phone a couple of times to see if the problem really went away. I left my phone off for most of the day today and after switching it on this afternoon the sound started working again.

The problem comes and goes and only started after upgrading to iOS7. It is definately an issue with the OS and Apple should fix this ASAP!! This is really bad PR even though it is a relatively old model one can still buy a new iPhone 4 in the Apple stores. It is also fully supported. I dont think Apple spent enough time testing iOS7 on the older models. I payed just as much for my older model as what someone would pay today for an iPhone5 and I am expecting no less support for my phone than for the newer phones.

Best of all, I now can not go back to iOS6.1.3. Apple is not signing these older version of iOS any more. So I now have a phone that is mostly useless. What use does a phone have with no mice or speakers working?!!!!!

Hi,

tried all the tricks above - no go.

In my case: used the Sonos app on iphone. Had the app on main screen when i left the house, and lost wifi connection. That¨s when the sh** happened. Came home, and only sound from headphones. Tried all the tricks.

As a last attempt: opened the Sonos app, and played a song from the iphone to the Sonos hooked to my stereo. Paused the song and played another song from Wimp(Spotify). And WOW - sound is back on the Iphone ( in Air play the "iphone" is showing as it should).

So something (an App) is taking "over" the phone, and you need to trick it to get back... worked for me.

regards.

Same problem here with iOS 7 and iPhone 5. Sometimes reboot helps, sometimes not. Connected it to ATV music plays, disconnected no music, connected again and there was even no music at the apple tv. It showed the played song but the play button on the iphone switched all time back to stop.

So i can say sometimes it helps:

- reboot

- turn off and on (only hold down the lock buttons) -> helps in most cases

- connect to ATV and disconnect

- connect to headphones and disconnet

Sounds like a software problem, so Apple: PLEASE FIX!

I had the same problem. No sound through the speaker, but fine through headphones for music and podcast. I did hear ring tones though. What worked for me is I made sure to clear all applications from the background, then I rebooted the phone. Sound came through the speakers fine then. I think it has to do with incompatability of some older apps with IOS 7. Problem is to know which one, so I stopped them all. I will now check after each time I start a new app to see if it causes sound issues.

So, I thought my issue was fixed (as per my previous post) but then it recurred. To fix it I again had to dock the phone into a music station, play it, and then take it out again, but I wanted to know what caused it. I tested a few things and it turns out that using Apple's own Notes causes my phone to lose sound thereafter. Why Notes does this I have no idea, but it means I cant use it now. Waiting to see if there are any other apps that cause the same problem or if its just that one, or if its going to decide to go again for no reason at all at any point soon... This is just silly!
