iOS 7 camera filter

When I take a picture using one of the new filters and then import it to my macbook using iPhoto, the photo that appears in iPhoto is different from the one that shows up in my iphone (the one in the iPhone has the filter, the one that's imported by iPhoto is the same photo but without any filter applied). Is there a way to make it so that imported photos keep the filter once imported? Otherwise I don't see much point in having the option to apply filters when you can only see them with the iphone.

hi all,

just realised the latest iphoto for mac (9.5) supports the filters.

preview and finder don't seem to 'see' the filters (which i believe are recorded in the file data), but if you update iphoto to this latest version, iphoto will detect and display the filter as an overlay, the same as it appears on your iphone.

So you have to buy a $15 program and update your entire OS to run it just to use a feature that should be built-in?

I've had a Mac since 2011. The update to iPhoto isn't free unless you upgrade to Mavericks, and doing so can cause issues for people who run programs that aren't supported on that yet.

But more importantly, this shouldn't be an issue. At most, it should be an option that users can toggle in their settings -- to have filters be permanently applied or just 'fake' applied.

The problem is that Apple saw fit to make all of the filters an illusion and not tell anyone about it, so the way everyone finds out is by taking filtered photos that they really like and finding out that it's not actually working.

The only fix is to put the photos back on your iPhone, apply the filters, and then email them to yourself. It's outrageous for a company to charge so much for their products and have problems like this.

I too would love a "permanent filter" option, but as for the update issue there isn't much to say...they introduced a new feature, and the update supports the new feature. Are the incompatible programs also made by Apple?

Try to import with the latest version of iOS and iPhoto, the filter will not be shown at the time of import, but will be applied at the photo after that. Take a look. discussions.apple.com/message/23791622#23791622

There is, as they say, an app for that. I had this problem too, and I ended up with over 900 filtered photos that wouldn't import into my version of iPhoto, so I wrote an app - http://appstore.com/phoreal
