iOS7 Lock Screen & Headphone Music Controls????

Please tell me my iPhone 4 is broken and Apple really didn't remove the ability for headphones and the lock screen to play/pause or skip songs on Pandora? I use Jaybird Freedoms when I workout and the play/pause and next track buttons don't work anymore. Nor do they work on the lock screen. In my car (connects w/ bluetooth also), only the play/pause feature works, I can no longer skip to the next song. I even tried Apple's new iTunes radio and the buttons don't work either. Is this some pointless restriction Apple has implemented so only downloaded songs in iTunes can use these buttons.

Add me to the list of hard restarting NOT working.

I left PCs because of buggy OS issues exactly like this. I thought Apple used to be so much simpler to use but the more I invest in their products, the more frustrated I get. It seems that they have changed simple & streamlined to needlessly complicated, unintuitive and full of bugs. It sounds kinda familiar.

Good news for me, the problem seems to have been fixed with iOS 7.0.3.

As I mentioned before, I was having the same problem as the original poster and many of you. On my iPhone 4s running iOS 7, the controls on the lock screen itself, as well as the play/pause and fwd/rev controls from Bluetooth devices (my car and an external speaker) would become unresponsive. Rebooting the phone would fix the problem temporarily, but it would happen again every time.

It applied to all three of the audio programs I use most, the built in Music app, Rdio's app for their streaming audio service, and Downcast, my podcast player of choice.

Since upgrading to iOS 7.0.3, the problem hasn't recurred. There have also been a couple of bug-fix updates to Downcast. It seems very unlikely to me that Downcast could somehow trigger the problem that would persist system wide, but I can't 100% rule out that one of those updates may have helped as well (I considered, but never went through with serious testing like restarting the phone and then only running specific apps until the problem occurred to see if it really could be a specific app causing it). Someone who doesn't use Downcast at all may be able to confirm or deny that one way or the other.

I hope updating to 7.0.3 solves the problem for everyone else!

Updated mine to 7.0.3 (iPhone 4s). Rebooted a gazillion times. Still no luck.

Starting the music via control panel or headphone controller does NOT work.

I have to say that this is the most buggy iOS version I have tried using and I have had iPhone since 3g was brand new.

Come on Apple. Time to fire another quality assurance engineer or whatever you call them. This is not what we are used to from Apple. Time to get it fixed.

Thank you!

I wonder if some of us are talking about slightly different things? I found this thread because I was used to the way iOS 6 allows me to double-tap the home button to bring up music playback controls from the lock screen, whether or not I'm currently playing music (i.e, I can start playback in this way from the lock screen, by double-tapping home and then hitting play).

This no longer works the same way in iOS 7, but I learned today that similar functionality exists, although it's now slightly harder to access. Now, if you are already playing music, the music controls automatically appear on the lock screen with a single press of the home button. (Double tapping is no longer any different than a single tap.) If you are not already playing music, the lock screen does NOT display music controls. However, if you swipe up from the bottom of the lock screen, several controls come into view, including the music playback controls. In this way, music can be started from the lock screen.

It occurred to me that several of the posters in this thread may be having a similar difficulty learning and getting used to the differences between iOS 6 and iOS 7 (as I was), while others are probably seeing a legitimate bug.
