I have found that with the white iPhones, the icons appear to be brighter, or more washed out and harder on the eyes.
I think the contrast with the black iPhones, offers your eyes a better perspective in viewing your screen.
There is definitely a difference oh how your eyes adjust to view it.
Try using bold text. Here are instructions.
I'm an iOS developer and love the new OS but I just can't use it for more than 5 minutes without getting eye strain, feel nauseous and getting a headache. Makes it kind of hard to do my job.
I also haven't had any luck adjusting the accessibility settings.
This is a big issue...
Making it bold helps in some applications. Thanks for the tip, etresoft Any idea how to increase the font size in iTunes where it displays the song play time? That one is killing me since I use iTunes in group cycling class and need to see the time from more than 3 inches from the screen.
But if you can't see to text or email or to make calls what was the point in the upgrade?
Some of us use the iPhone as a phone as well so the things listed above are important to us.
And why cant you see the text? Are you farsighted and have trouble seeing things close up? 😊
It's not the best solution bit it might help:
Disable the parallax effect in Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on Reduce Motion.

Downgrading is not supported by Apple and any discussion of it will be deleted. In addition, those that are downgrading are voiding their warranty because they are making unauthorized alterations to the operating system.
It's an age thing. My kids love the new look and want me to help them install IOS7 on their devices. But there's nothing subjective about the pain in my eyes. The 1-pixel gray lines, the semi-transluscent colors, and the horrible neon-green seriously hurts my eyes. Changing the text settings to bold helps (thanks!), but not enough. The home screen of iPhone icons is painfull for me to look at. My next screen of various apps doesn't bother my eyes. Too bad, because I love the new functionality. I love the enhancements made to Camera. I don't want to lose the new functionality, I just want the option to change the appearance of the UI. With the headache I now have, it's a must. Would Steve Jobs have endorsed this design change?
I agree with Dudephro. I've always been lucky with good eyesight but this is a big issue for anyone over the age of about 40 or 50, which includes me now. From that age onwards it's normal to become gradually less able to see things right up close to your face. Lots of people 50 years or older get by just fine without glasses but would have serious trouble with some text on the iPad now - even when wearing glasses. For example, TV episode descriptions in the Videos app on my iPad 2 are in type that is barely over 1 millimetre high! Due to the iPad 2 not being a retina display, it means individual characters are also badly mangled by pixelation and that makes it even worse. Switching to bold helps but I think that 1mm-high type on a screen is pushing things too far and there should be a realistic minimum size across much of the iOS interface. As a graphic designer myself, I would not even use 1-mm type in print. Unfortunately much of Apple's own application interface, including the Videos app, does not currently use dynamic type.
I've sent a feedback message to Apple via their iPad feedback page but maybe there's a better feedback section I should have used. If anyone knows of a better option I'd be grateful to hear about it!

Not for everyone. I'm 51, use reading glasses (for almost 10 years) and love the new look. It's very clean and simple. I find it bright and easy to read on both my iPad and my iPhone.
I bet some members of this thread need cataract surgery. I have no trouble reading the screen at 75.
