Bug in newsstand in ios7: unable to pinch to close?

If I'm in Newstand, there's no way for me to exit out of the screen where I select from a magazine or newspaper. Because the newsstand takes up the entire screen, there's nowhere for me to press to minimize out of newsstand. Also, the pinch gesture does not work in this screen. If I then click on an app, I can use the pinch gesture to exit out of the app and get back to the newsstand interface. I would like to enable the pinch gesture at the newsstand screen too.

Everyone is missing the point. This thread is about the fact that Newsstand isn't consistent with the rest of iOS 7. Yes, it acts like the home screen. Yes, you just need to hit the home button to exit. That's not the point. Intentionally so designed or a nun acknowledged bug, Newsstand should pinch to close just like iBooks does. It's unlike Apple to leave something so glaringly inconsistent with their brand for so long without taking steps to fix it.

Nope, I disagree. Apple has created the appearance that Newsstand is an app. Frankly, if the behavior was more like a folder there would be less frustration. I agree with you that the contents of Newsstand run like apps but Newsstand itself performs like an app with the exception of pinch to close. Apple needs to go one direction or the other with the UI of Newsstand to create a consistent and intuitive interface.

Right. Newsstand has an identity crisis. If it's a folder, it should look like and act like one. I'm sure you've noticed that it's the only "folder" that can be nested inside another. It's a user interface issue. Is it a folder or is it an app? The very fact we're having this discussion is proof that Apple got this one wrong. I'm not a hater. Apple is in my computing DNA... My first Apple was a IIe. That said, they're not infallible. Occasionally, they swing and miss. This iteration of Newsstand is a strike.

It's not a folder in a folder, it is the folder containing all your magazine apps. When in Newsstand and you double click the home button what do you see, the Newsstand sitting on the home screen because it is part of the home screen just like any other folder. Tap a folder, when it opens double click the home button, it's sitting on the home page just like Newsstand does. If the magazines were downloaded to your iPad like iBooks it would behave like iBooks. Magazines need the internet to operate, iBooks doesn't.

For goodness sakes. Is it a breath mint... It's not intuitive but it is simple. Click Home.

I had to google that expression. I don't really understand your point. I agree that it's mainly a cosmetic problem with a solution so easy that it barely counts as a workaround, but there's no good side to it. It's annoyed a couple of hundred people enough to search out this thread.
