Bug in newsstand in ios7: unable to pinch to close?

If I'm in Newstand, there's no way for me to exit out of the screen where I select from a magazine or newspaper. Because the newsstand takes up the entire screen, there's nowhere for me to press to minimize out of newsstand. Also, the pinch gesture does not work in this screen. If I then click on an app, I can use the pinch gesture to exit out of the app and get back to the newsstand interface. I would like to enable the pinch gesture at the newsstand screen too.

It can't operate like other apps because it is a collection of apps. Each magazine /newspaper is a separate and must remain so to get new issues. The only way it can operate is the way it does. If Newsstand doesn't operate as a folder you would have a string of magazine icons across your home page. Hundreds of people may have search out the thread, hopefully some of them learned why it must operate the way it does.

I can close a folder by tapping outside it. If I could do that with this "app" then I'd have been happy with it from the start, and I'm guessing this thread wouldn't exist.

But it didn't operate this way in iOS6: it was still a collection of apps, yet it was possible to tap outside it or pinch to close. So the current way it operates is not the only way it can, and quite a few people prefer the way it used to operate.

I just checked- I can't pinch Newstand to close it in iOS6, only tap outside. Apologies.

Aloha CDudman, No apologies necessary, we're cool. i don't doubt some people prefer the old version. It's just since as long as IOS 7 is the one most people have it wouldn't hurt to know how to use it. Thanks for the info that you can't pinch close IOS 6. That means other then the ability to tap outside to close, IOS7 operates exactly like IOS 6. Bob.

I know your pain. Try this: With Newsstand open, and seemingly locked from closing, tap the screen one time with one finger in any open area and then depress the mechanical Home Screen Button once. I happened upon this solution by experimenting after scanning through many responses submitted by others. It definitely works for ios7 and iPad Air.

Just hitting the button works for me, no need to tap the screen first.

It was never a bug. NewsStand is a specialized folder, not an app, and behaves as every other folder. Tap the home button to close it.

Except that it fills the whole screen so that it looks like an app. So what's that? A design inconsistency?

And once you've closed it with the Home button, it doesn't stay closed like a folder. If you keep returning to the publication you were reading via multitasking, occasionally when you pinch close it, the NewsStand is back again. I've never seen a folder do that, so I'd call that a bug.
