Music not syncing after iOS 7 update

I updated to iOS7 on my iPhone 4 and less than half of my music is syncing to my phone. Any thoughts? I am already hating this update for more than one reason and this is adding icing to the cake...

Good Luck, Apple!!!!

I doubt the update will fix this issue.

According to:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6147?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

it fixes only one thing.

Description: Secure Transport failed to validate the authenticity of the connection. This issue was addressed by restoring missing validation steps.

and according to the "what's in this update" that shows up on the ios device, it states the same thing.

I suspect apple has pretty much abandoned the 7.0 version and is biding their time so they can push 7.1... something which is rumoured to be released next month sometime.

Time will tell if it's fixed then.

@ 23 s > 2 Hr 19 min > ??? - Waiting for changes to be applied
Did this Sync get stuck, or is iTunes actually doing something to my Library, my iPhone?

I am TRYING to Sync 10 New Songs since OK Sync yesterday! It's just a 7 MB Total only!!!!

Below are the Excerpt from one of my COUNTLESS LOGS that I would LOVE to Discuss with Apple...., but I have not seen much interest in that on their part. To be fair, AppleCare and I have Discussed this A LOT, but then they just said:

We are working on it...
And that's after they tried to blame Audio Hijack Pro and Lame Encoder. See my Previous Comments about that!

After that, they were not interested in my Feedback... So maybe they already know what's wrong..., and the ARE working on it!!!

All I can say now is that iOS 7.06 Update and this iTunes 11.1.5 Update did NOT FIX this Music Syncing Nightmare YET!

But, just in case Apple is Watching this Discussion, here is where I am RIGHT NOW...

Well having done the updates to iOS and iTunes, I can happily report that the sync process is still f****d

Not syncing all songs, and reporting lack of memory when there's more than adequate. After the partial sync this evening, which took four hours, iTunes showed a sudden jump in 'Other' usage to 1.42Gb.

I tried a number of these fixes but what finally worked for me was:

  1. On iPhone, Settings, Music, turn off "Show All Music".
  2. Uncheck "Sync Music" in iTunes and sync with iPhone.
  3. Music still showing on iPhone so manually deleted them from iPhone. I think these lingering songs are the root of all the problems.
  4. Run iCloud backup
  5. On iPhone "Reset All Contect and Settings"
  6. Setup phone again and allow restore from iCloud.
  7. Check no music files. There should not be any.
  8. Sync with iTunes (all my Syncs were wireless but dont see why you couldn't plug in).
  9. Check no music files. There should not be any.
  10. Now add "Sync Music" back and perform a sync.
  11. All should be good.

This worked for me. Good luck.

Same Problem here -.-

So here's what I have tried:

  • hard reset (hone and lock screen)
  • turning phone on and off
  • reinstalling itunes
  • redownloading ios7 (which only made me download all my apps again -.-)
  • clearing sync history
  • turning computer on and off
  • manually managing music
  • unchecking sync music and rechecking that

BUT ITS STILL NOT WORKING!!!!!! HELP PLEASEEEE!!!

Sep 27, 2013 3:53 AM in response to yax412

It's ridiculous how many workarounds people are being forced to try. Anyway I found a fix with mixed results. Basically it worked for some playlists and not others. It involves sync'ing playlists by genre. I will outline the steps that I used to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone 4 (iOS7). Just to clarify, I also experienced this music sync issue since updating to iOS7.

(Only try this if you don't mind risking losing music on the phone. Failure to sync can corrupt the music on the phone)

(Make sure to create a back up of your iTunes playlists by exporting them.)

  1. Select a playlist, select a song and then press CTRL+A to select all the songs on the playlist. Then right click the selection and click "Get info" from the list. You should be able to edit the info for all the selected music simultaneously.
  2. At the bottom of the "Info" window, look for a field labeled "Genre". Edit this field to a unique name. For example, Chillout V1.
  3. While your phone is connected to iTunes, open the phone's Summary window and under Options, make sure that only "Sync only checked songs and videos" is checked.
  4. Open your phone's Music window, check "Sync music" - "Selected playlists, artists, album, and genres" and then under "Genre" put a check on the genre of music that was just renamed (e.g. Chillout V1).
  5. Now sync. (The final step "Waiting for changes to be applied" should take less than 1 minute before music starts to transfer to the phone... if not, click the 'x' next to the loading bar to cancel the process and try to sync again)
  6. If sync was successful and the music is now on your phone, check the playlist that contained the songs with the changed genre tags and then sync again. This will create the playlist on your phone and add all the songs from the same genre to that playlist. If you skip this step you can create a playlist on the phone and add all the songs 1 by 1.
  7. Repeat steps 1-2-4-5-6 for other playlists. (Keep the same playlists checked as you sync more so you don't erase them from the phone)

I was only able to sync 3 playlists (300 songs) doing this and the music on the phone still works after unplugging from iTunes. I don't expect this to work for everyone but for those who have nothing else to try (like I did) feel free to give this method a shot.

Oct 21, 2013 9:14 AM in response to yax412

I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT:

I have a DisplayLink USB adapter that has also been flaky since iOS7 -- and yes, that has nothing to do with my phone, but what it *does* have to do with is OSX 10.8.4, which apparently broke some of the permissions on the driver. Anyway, I was instructed to do this:

  • Start Disk Utility
  • Select your primary hard disk
  • Click the "Verify Disk Permissions" button
  • Let it finish.

After I did this, I noticed a lot of iTunes fixes, and after it was done, my phone syncs without any problem (and my DisplayLink now works as well).

Hope this helps others!

Re: Music not synching up on iPhone after OS7 upgrade

Music File Configuration: My original MP3 files are in D:\My Music. Inside that folder, all musicians have their own folder, and each album has its own subfolder. The MP3's are inside the album folders. This may be configured somewhat differently for each user, but should substanially be the same.

Here is what worked for me. These instructions are for the layperson not too familiar with iTunes.

  1. Make sure your iPhone is plugged into your PC.
  2. Start iTunes if it hasn't already started up. My iTunes automatically goes to the Music Category; I'm hoping this is the case with everybody else.
  3. Select the 1st song from the 1st album shown. In the near top left-hand corner, click Edit --> Select All. All your music has been highighted. Hit the Delete key on your keyboard and confirm that you want to delete all files.*
  4. Below the Apple symbol in the top center is a line reading, "Songs Albums Artists... [etc]." To the right of that is an iPhone button. Click on that. (If it doesn't appear, your phone didn't sync. Start at Step (1).) Scroll to the bottom and click on the Sync button. At the top of the screen is a progress bar. Wait until it stops. All your music files will be gone on your iPhone.
  5. At the top left of the screen, click on File --> Add folder to library..., and select the primary folder where your MP3's reside (usually My Music). Wait until the progress bar completes.
  6. Scroll down and hit the Sync button again. Wait until the progress bar on top completes (depending on how many songs you have, this could take several hours). You should have all your music on your iPhone once more.

* You may need to do the same thing with your Apps, Movies, TV Shows, etc.. Though I never did it, you should be able to follow the same instructions above in perpetuity, i.e., once you've deleted your Music, then delete your Apps, then delete your TV Shows, and continue deleting siad files before continuing to the next step.

That's exactly the problem I have been having since last weekend. Yesterday, though, I tried one of the suggestions in this forum and it worked (at least for now). After connecting my iPhone to my PC and to iTunes:

  • I unchecked the "Sync Music" option.
  • I clicked "Apply." (You may need to be patient because this took a while for me, as it got stuck for quite some time of "Waiting For Changes to Be Applied," but it finally finished. I think it was around 20-30 minutes.)
  • I then re-checked the "Sync Music" option and clicked "Sync." (It then took some more time - maybe 15-20 minutes - but then I finally started seeing the tracks being copied back to my iPhone.)

It took about two hours altogether to copy the 4,800+ tracks. I've randomly tried playing them from my iPhone, and they've all worked so far.

I hope this works for you too.

Nov 6, 2013 2:19 PM in response to yax412

The strategy of "unsyncing" your music, then resyncing it again worked for me. A few additional tricks.

  1. Reboot your iphone, so you have a clean running machine.
  2. Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes and iOS on your device.
  3. Slowly resync your music a few folders at a time.

My iPhone 5 (latest iOS and iTunes versions) is acting as if the sync process needs more overhead memory than in the past. Sometimes it tells me there is not enough room to sync my music. Other times it just doesn't sync the file. Slowly syncing the folders back a few at a time helped to identify this behavior. My music is now syncing correctly.

My next step is to delete some photos and large apps from my iPhone, just to give Sync and iTunes some wiggle room to work with.

I hope this helped someone.

Nov 11, 2013 3:16 PM in response to yax412

Ok, this is what worked for me.

  1. First I wiped all of the music from my iPhone. (Which had only 900 songs because everything else wasn't syncing, yet for some reason, after purging the music, my phone still had 151 songs)
  2. Afterwards I opened my iPhone's settings app and logged out of iTunes/App Store.
  3. Then I logged out of iCloud.
  4. I logged out of home sharing as well.
  5. In iTunes, under iPhone > Music I checked the "Entire music library" sync box.
  6. I waited. It had about 7 steps. It did a backup and it also transferred my purchases (apps which hadn't been transferred to my mac for some reason) and then it proceeded to syncing all 2096 songs, flawlessly. The process took about 2.5 hours.

This is what solved it for me.

Nov 21, 2013 9:25 PM in response to yax412

I just tried all of the tricks that everyone else tried. Here is what I found that worked. It is unfortunate that we have to do this, but it works ok.

1) Uncheck all of your playlists, songs, albums etc that you have previously selected when your phone is plugged in.

2) On the Summary tab click "Manually Manage Music and Videos".

3) Follow the instructions on how to manually playlists to your device. (I copied them below for your reference)

4) Simply drag and drop the music in that you want.

It is almost like you have to blank out all of you music cause it was corrupted with the upgrade, then re-add it manually. I don't know why the auto sync is not working, but after wasting a good amount of time on this, I don't care. I hope this helps.

Manually add or remove content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

After following the steps above, you can add individual songs, videos, and playlists from iTunes to your device. To add content to your device:

  1. Select your device.
  2. Click "On this Device."
  3. Then choose "Add to" in the upper right corner.
While viewing the media in your iTunes library, if you drag a song, video, TV show, or Movie a sidebar will appear on the right. You can drag content onto the device. You can also create and modify playlists directly on the device.

Nov 27, 2013 12:27 PM in response to bluegirl26

Thank you! Your insight helped me solve my syncing problem.

After checking manually manage music, I found there was still 102MB of audio on my iPhone. What worked for me, was to:

  1. Ensure that Manually Manage Music and Videos was checked
  2. Sync
  3. On my iOS device, go to Settings > General > Usage
  4. Wait for the Storage section to load, then tap to Music (you may have to first tap Show all Apps to find it)
  5. Tap Edit and then the delete icon for each entry listed until it reads No Data
  6. Uncheck Manually Manage Music and Videos and resync in iTunes

Hope this helps someone.

I've been having this syncing issue ever since the big iOS update on my iPhone 4. I tried many things seen in this thread, but this is what worked for me.

  • Start iTunes on your computer
  • Connect your iPhone and let it Sync
  • Select your phone among the devices in iTunes
  • Select the tab for Music
  • Uncheck the "Sync Music" and then hit "Apply" (down at bottom of page). NOTE: this will remove all the music from your phone but it will not affect your iTunes library.
  • After the phone has synced and removed all the music, Go back to the same Music tab for your phone in iTunes and re-check "Sync Music". Then sync your phone again with iTunes. It will now reload all the music in your library back on to your phone.

There is one caveat to this though: it works, but every time I add new music--either to my library or to a Playlist--I have to repeat this procedure. I only have about 560 songs, so it doesn't take extraordinarily long for me to do this, but it's still a pain. I just refuse to reset/restore my phone though. I'm stubborn like that.

I will add that I have downloaded the Amazon Cloud Player app and I have it on my phone and my PC and my iPad too. I have imported all my iTunes music over to that so that I have all my music backed up because I no longer trust iTunes. I may just start using that instead of iTunes once I use up the iTunes gifts cards I got for Xmas so I don't have to be bothered with this iTunes music sync crap any longer. Then in the future I will only need to use iTunes for buying songs I might not be able to find on Amazon, and I can import them right into the Cloud Player. And if Apple doesn't actually fix this sync business, when I'm ready for a new phone (my iPhone 4 could sure use an upgrade), I don't plan on it being an iPhone, so I'll be shopping for something else.

Feb 8, 2014 4:44 PM in response to yax412

Things I have tried so far:

  1. Recreating my iTunes Library (2 times): Interestingly enough I noticed that a few of my songs, while still existing perfectly playably in my music folders, did not appear on the new library when I imported the XML sheet. Not sure if that is connect to the issue or not. Did not fix the issue.
  2. Managing Music Manually (3 times): Didn't fix the problem at all any of the three times, so moving on. I should also note I couldn't even so much as drag music onto the phone! That failed too!
  3. Selecting specific authors/genres (3 times): This actually worked!... once, when I narrowed my authors down to a handful... pretty much the only songs that worked were ones bought from iTunes itself, and a a soundtrack from a game I have. Not satisfactory enough of an answer. Plus it failed the next two times.
  4. Restoring the phone to factory (1 time): No impact whatsoever. Starting from scratch did not have any impact on the syncing issue.
  5. Checking my iTunes app on the iPhone (1 time): Yeah I didn't have any broken downloads.
And I haven't seen any other response in this (53 page!!) thread that has allowed me to make any progress on this issue. All of them are, more or less, some variation of one of these 5 answers. So as you can imagine, with how long this issue has been going on, I a bit past being merely frustrated. This is a complete failure to provide service. I physically can't place songs onto my phone anymore after this syncing issue came about, and there hasn't been a word from Apple one way or the other, as far as I know, on the issue. It's really starting to grate.

Jun 5, 2014 8:46 AM in response to yax412

Like the rest of you, I continue to have problems with this bug. I've had it appear every time I attempt to add new music for at least six months, so it has persisted through some iTunes and iOS updates. The work arounds I've found are annoying and massively time consuming but maybe they'll help some of you.

What I'm experiencing:

  • Newly added music will not appear in my playlists on my iPhone, even though they're appearing properly in iTunes. This is mostly with Smart Playlists; static playlists *usually* work, but I rarely have added new music to static playlists so I'm not entirely sure. Also, music that has synced properly in the past sometimes goes missing from playlists.
  • The newly added music *is* on my phone, but I can only access it by going to the Artists or Songs tabs in my Music App. Not what I want since I never listen to only one artist at a time-- I listen to my playlists.
  • If I delete my smart playlist and re-create it, *sometimes*, but not always, it will snyc properly. At least until the next time I add new music. This is not a good option for me since I have at least 30 smart playlists that I run, but if you only have one or two, it's worth a try.
  • If I do eventually get things to snyc, even if I don't update my iTunes or iOS the problem returns the next time I try and add new music.

Here's the process I've found that usually works:

  1. Add new music to iTunes. Everything looks good so I sync my phone, forgetting that this problem exists.
  2. Go to work, find all my playlists missing the new songs, and others. Curse.
  3. After work, go home and sync my phone. I just let it do it's initial sync when I plug it in. Why not? It's already screwed up.
  4. Go into the Music tab in my Phone settings in iTunes. I already manage my music manually, but I uncheck the box so no music is syncing to my phone. I hit sync and let it do it's thing.
  5. A very long snyc later, iTunes is saying there is no music on my phone and I have aproximately All the Gigs of free space. I unplug my phone.
  6. I go into my settings on my phone. Go to Settings > General > Usage. Chances are good I'll see that "Music" still says it has 40+Gigs of space used, even though it should have none since I just deleted it all via iTunes.
  7. I have to manually remove this from my iPhone by tapping into Music (still under Usage), swiping left on Music, and deleting the information there.
  8. It takes forever but eventually it deletes. I go back out to General >Usage and make sure the amount of free space my phone thinks it has is appropriate.
  9. Restart my phone, for good measure. Also, restart my computer. Why not?
  10. Resync my phone to iTunes.
  11. Go back into the phone music settings in iTunes and re-check "sync Music". Sync again.
  12. Let it sync overnight (I have 40 gigs of music that syncs-- it takes forever)
  13. Pray it works the next morning.

Generally one round of this will work. The biggest part is having to go back and manually delete the music from your phone. For some reason even though you've told it to delete it via iTunes, it still keeps all that space stashed away, so if you attempt to resync your music without this step you'll get the Not Enough Space error.

Hopefully that helps some of you. It's not a fun process but it's relatively reliable. In the meantime, I'm going to struggle through my day stuck at Step 2. 😟

iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.1, syncing to MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.something, running iTunes 11.2.2. I believe. I'm still at work so my computer and iTunes numbers might be a bit off.
