itunes 11.1 extremely slow and laggy

I called Apple: they took details, asked me to check one more time; and of course, Podcasts loaded within about 5 seconds - so it looks as though it's been fixed.

Anyone else?

I have a 1st Gen iPod Touch and the same problem occurs (plugged or not).

It has nothing to do with the iPhone specifically.

The lag is when you go from one Podcast subscribed to another. They all have artwork, that does not have a link with the problem as far as I am concerned.

Suddenly, iTunes is back to regular speed here. I think this may have been a server side issue that Apple has finally managed to fix. Anybody else?

Yes; that was my comclusion too.

The technicians I spoke to on the phone on Frday were extremely responsive and helpful. But they couldn't exlain it and suggested it could well be something that got fixed in the aftermath of all the updates :-)

The problem appears to be resolved.

I do not have the lag in the Podcast section anymore.

iTunes at the latest version.

It seems everything Apple has slowed way down or froze up, since the new updates. iTunes, iPhone, iPad all are EXTREMELY SLOW! It takes iTunes a minute to do anything and many times I have to force close it and restart it to do anything. There is also a huge lag in everything with the iPhone missed photo opertunities, good thing I never need to call 911 because the emergency would be over by the time I could make the call. I would love to roll back everything to the last version!

Lately it's bag to having lag while sitching from one subscribe podcast channel content to the other.

my iPhone also still (intermittently) causes iTunes 11.1.1 to keep relaunching.

Don't worry everyone, just buy a new iPad Air and magically everything will work wonderfully.

This is definitely related to the Podcast artwork. I don't see it happening anywhere else.

Unsub from effected casts (interestingly all my Frogpants ones but none of my TWiT) and magically all is fine.

Perhaps it's the image format?

Either way I dont sub through iTunes any more and just listen on the respective sites.

I'll give the Air a mss and phase out Apple usage for now. Let some of that arogance subside.

Same problem as others, and it's clearly caused by Podcast artwork. The problem started with the new itunes release, got better for a wee while, but it's back as bad again.

I say it's caused by Podcast artwork as when I look at my podcasts, there are two and a half scrolls worth of podcasts. The first scroll worth that are immediately seen are no issue, but try to scroll down, it just causes chaos. I'm not surprised, since apple released the podcast app there's been nothing but issues. Instead of it taking 2 minutes to sort through podcasts to delete what I don't want anymore, I'm looking at 20 - 30 minutes for around 50 different podcasts. It also causes problems with kicking off the download of new podcasts.

Yes, I've been having terribly slow and unresponsive iTunes Store problems. Thought it might get better so I updated to the 11.1.3 (8) and it is just as bad or worse. Trying to peruse the store is downright painful.

I did the same as you did with the same result. Apple didn't seem to have any good reason or fix. Thought I might check the message boards and forums. no luck so far. If anyone has any ideas please help iTunes is painful to use.

As of today, still slow even if no devices plugged. I'm in OS X 10.6 with latest iTunes, anyone in Maverick without this problem?

I am having an issue with my iTunes too. It would freeze when I try to move from one media to another, or when I try to upload songs unto iTunes. What's going on? This happened after I updated. :-(

(I am using a PC.)

I have/had the same sluggish problem. I have a large library, so I've attributed it to that until now. I was Googling looking for info about it and found this post. After reading, I've turned off the Bonjour Service, disabled Automatically Downloading Artwork, and disabled the Show Content Ratings Library option in the Store section of Preferences. One or all of those things has worked for me.. for about a couple hours anyway.

My podcast section has been particularly slow also, but I don't use itunes for podcasts anymore so I didn't check the speed there.
