itunes 11.1 extremely slow and laggy

Hi All,

Has anyone been experiencing any sluggishness or lagging when selecting different media types since the 11.1 update?

It can take a good 2-3 seconds just to selected a different podcast or clicking from Music to Movies etc...

Additionally, I havent had any songs or podcasts removed but all my album art is gone. and It wont allow me to add it back.

Hey guys, I'm running into similar issues, so I thought I would write a post. I am using Windows 7 64-bit with iTunes 11.1.3.8. During the 3-5 second lag when I fast-forward through songs, I'm getting 100% CPU usage with the "IDMGrHlp.exe *32" process. Windows has it listed as "Internet Download Manger module", and the File Location looks like it's a part of Adobe Flash. Is anyone else seeing this? I've mitigated the issue by right-clicking on the process and selected "Set Affinity". I unchecked <All Processors>, and just enabled it on CPU 0. The lag still there, but not as bad. I've tried uninstalling Flash, but the process still loads. Rather than messing up my PC, I'm going to investigate with Microsoft to see if this process can be stopped.

i have itunes 11.1.4 and 17,000 songs and my itunes has been lagging to on scrolls and doing other itunes stuff i sometimes reboot to see if it helps. im using a 2007 intel mac mini 2 gigs of ram core duo as my itunes server

nothing is really runnng just itunes

the other day i tried to right click a mp3 file and convert it to aac and itunes gave me an error and said there was too many files open. maybe itunes is keeping too many files open and that is whats causing the slowness

im also using the latest 10.6.8

i was having problems with syncing, itunes would tell me there wasnt enough disk space to back up my iphone when the disk had like more then enough space

i tired deleteing all the songs and then readding them or rebuilding the library to see if it helps. i havent seen the error about no disk space to back up iphone in a while so maybe that part is fixed

I have been experiencing beachballing for 5 to 7 minutes when starting iTunes 11.1.x on my 2009 MBP under Mavericks. After a lot of experimenting I found the reason and eliminated the problem. I am posting here so that otheres might give it a try.

In iTunes Preferences under Sharing, at the bottom there is Preference entitled "Home sharing computers and devices update play counts". When I unchecked this the slow startup issue disappeared. Other settings for Home Sharing and in the iTunes General preferences to Show Shared Libraries are not afffected--just this one relating to updating play counts. It makes sense in a way. iTunes apparently tries to do this updating on start up and the Shared Libraries may not be present or iTunes may be very slow at going through its entire database syncing play counts.

Anyway, the difference is like night and day and I am happy with iTunes again.

I had slow responses - 2 minutes to respond to a mouse click, 100% utilization of one of my cores in task manager during this time etc. I was able to use the rest of the computer without problems, only itunes was locking up.

I unchecked the sharing as my play counts was already unchecked. This seems to have solved the long lag issue for me.

chimericthorn:
2. Go to Edit > Preferences > Store and uncheck "Automatically download album artwork". This got rid of almost all lag, making iTunes 11.1 (and iPhone sync management) about as fast as 11.0.5 was, maybe even a bit faster.

It seems that something has gone horribly wrong with iTunes' procedures for checking album artwork for podcasts -- maybe it's checking artwork for each individual file until it finds something, or maybe it generates a new artwork cache EVERY time you load the Podcasts category. In any case, I don't really make much use of the automatic artwork downloads, and unless you're importing a bunch of CDs, you probably aren't either. Even so, you can still right click on media to search for missing artwork if you need it.

#2 worked for me!

I've been looking for a solution to this for months!

Thanks!

Combo of iTunes + iPhone6 is ridiculously slow and I kind of doubt that my computer is the problem it's clean as a whistle Core i7 + 12Gig Ram + SSD drives + Windows 7 64Bit.

Then again I believe that have a rather large library but is that really an excuse? My library was about just as large un iTune 10.x and that software was not slow. The software always felt to me badly coded to me on the Windows platform (almost as if it was an after thought). Today it's even worse and I've checked it's happening to me on different systems.
