iOS 7 - 3G toggle for iPhone 5

Hi,

I have a problem with my iPhone 5 - locked on Orange Romania.

Since the last iOS update (6 to 7) - I cannot switch off the 3G connection anymore. Instead, I have a 4G toggle that is completely useless - because 4G in my area is pure fiction.

My problem with the 3G toggle is that I really need it! In my office I have one bar for the 3G signal and I have many dropped calls.

First question: can I have my 3G toggle back?

Second question: who decides if the 3G toggle is available or not in the carrier bundle, Apple or the carrier itself?

Thank you!

PS: My carrier says that Apple decides what is available in the carrier bundle.

There are no solutions guys.In my country the 4G is just arrived and it is not all covered yet(only few areas are covered) , the 2G will be there for maybe other 3/4 yers and in this time maybe(I hope) the 3G will be use less energy or the battery become powerfull....until that the iPhone for US is useless...The carriers don't care about us and Apple don't want do nothing.

I have this problem from iOS6 and nothing changed. Now the iPhone 5 don't reach the end of the day so I don't care how much is good....a good telephone shutted down is useless.

If you need this toggle like me you have only 2 choise....The first is change the Smartphone. The second to modificate the system as your own risk....i chose the first one.Just ordered the new Nexus 5 after all those years with apple...I used the 3G,3Gs,4,4s and 5.....and i MUST change cause a simple but usefull toggle.

I hope Apple engigners read this message and learn how a simple thing could make them lose a buyer(and not only me...in my area all my parents and friend will change for another smartphone only for a stupid reason like this).I'm so sad because I love the iPhone with my Macbook and iPad and all apple stuff 😟

P.S.

I will look at this discussion...if maybe something change I'll come back to use it...I'll prey for you guys 😉

UPDATE: I discovered something interesting today.

I had to return my iphone 5s as it had developed an unrevoverable hardware fault 😟

This is the first faulty iphone we've had in the family (I've had 7 iphones alone over the years) so I suppose I was due one, and I bought new v1.0 64bit hardware on Day 1 - silly me LOL!

Anyway Apple Store promptly swapped it and when I upgraded from 7.0 to 7.03 it flashed up a carrier settings update. This is the one that lets O2 support 4G.

I declined that and checked in he settings. The 3G toggle was still there! And no 4G toggle.

So Apple tech support seem to have been incorrect, upto a point at least. Without 4G support in the carrier bundle, and the 4G toggle, you can have the 3G toggle it seems.

So for now now carrier updates for me!!!!

No need to jailbreak. Back up your phone on iTunes. Disable "use cellular data" to settings. Reset it to factory settings. DON'T accept any carrier settings updates and restore your backup. The 3G switch should be back. Do this IF you can't wait for the next carrier settings update. Most carriers will sooner or later fix this, mine did and guess what? Battery life is perfect now, like it never was since I bought my iPhone 5 (May 2013).

Yes but after the restore the cellular data is actived and updated!

I do this:

1)backup iPhone on itunes 2) Go in setting, cellular and switch off the first toggle "cellular data" 3)on itunes i click on "restore iphone" 4) When the iphone is restored and show che classic "hello" message and other things to start, the cellular data is still active and if i go on in the settings (also without restore the backup) the carrier version is still updated to the last...

It"s not the cellular data switch. Go till the end of the cellular data screen and you will see a series of switches under " use celllular data for" . The first one is " settings". Turn it off. I'm Brazilian and my iPhone is in Portuguese but I guess you will find it! The second switch is Appstore and all apps you have, safari, weather and so on.

OK I found the settings under the cellular data! Disabled the toggle and tryed again....nothing changed. The carrier is still updated.I tried also to restore WITHOUT the SIM card and insert it only at last moment when I'm forced to do it....and again is still updated....The only solution for a ******** toggle is the JB? Sorry but I never do it.Apple lose one user (and also other friends with the same problem) only for a stupid toggle...well done Apple!
