I have to agree with Megs wholeheartedly.

All of that is true. What's the problem?
Ah, there is a big difference between going online and looking at pictures of a car and then actually getting behind the wheel and driving it. Apple's pictures, etc. focused a lot on their ugly icons. What I didn't see, and what one doesn't get the feel for, is how bland, white, more difficult to differentiate menus, text, etc. that the new design is until it's in your hands.
Correct, which is why dealerships offer test drives for their cars. On that same vein Apple offers demo models of their devices at their stores.
It was entirely possible to wait for the demo models to show up at a store to try out the new interface. Just like you would wait for a test drive for a car that is being advertised but is not out yet.
The need to immediately update to brag to your friends overrides any kind of common sense.
With that said, Your opinion is very valid. You don't like it fine. But acting like it will be the demise of Apple or that everybody who hints at being o.k with the new iOS is dumb or an Apple fanboy or something is just ridiculous.
Like Meg I also like the new interface. Its a bold step for Apple. Steps it always likes to take.

What's not to understand? Downgrading of iOS has never been something that Apple has enabled or supported.
If you have upgraded, you cannot downgrade.
What don't you understand? I'm getting my iPhone 4 rolled to back to iOS 6. I'm on the phone with Verizon tech support now.
I wonder how many people waited in line on launch day, finally got their hands on a phone and said "***? Screw this, I'm not buying this horrid looking thing!!!!!!!11!!!!eleventy!!!"?
Apparently not 9 million people, nor the orders that they can't fill until sometime in October.

Okay fine - good luck with that.

That would be why Apple has demo models, table after table of them in their stores. The carriers all have demos. No one had to update right away. No, I don't have much patience for people who jump in to something without doing their own due dilegence and then have problems that they could have avoided.
But no forum poster here, no matter now many levels or points he or her has, can alter the opinion of a growing chorus of Apple users.
I've no interest in altering your opinion. In fact, my interest in your opinion only extends as far as hoping Apple continues to disagree with you as I think iOS 7 is one of the best things Apple has done in years and I'd hate to see them take a step backward. To that end, I have taken my own advice and submitted feedback.
Best of luck.
Hi Meg,
We're not talking about buying a new device here in which case, yes, I would probably go to a store and check it out. Or maybe not. I've bought over 40 Apple computers/devices and thousands of dollars of software over the years. I don't always test them out. That's just silly (not to mention impossible. You can't go into an Apple Store and cut a documentary on their computers). I simply trust that Apple will continue to provide good products as they usually do. The only time I really wait to jump in is when a brand new piece of software comes out, like Final Cut Pro X. I'll wait until the bugs are cleared up, and then dive in if it's something our studios need.
This, however, was an "Update". What has surprised many people, including me who did in fact watch some of Apple's promos etc. is that the user interface is a massive departure from Apple's usually classy presentation. You like it? Great. Go use it. I'm not sure why you (or others with all these points under their names) feel the need to come set other loyal Apple users straight. I've noticed this before, with other criticisms on these forums, that all of sudden the heavy points thugs suddenly come out trying to quell free speech. It's rather suspicious, to be honest...
The fact is, Apple does know what goes on in these forums. I've been contacted directly by Apple regarding a serious battery issue with MacBooks based soley on my forum posts. The best place to find out if one's products really do work, and what's wrong with them, truly is right here. Apple does not ignore this free grass roots feedback...

And I'm only going to be without it for up to two weeks!
In other words, you chose to decline the Express Replacement Shipping option. Which means you don't have AppleCare (which would waive the $29 shipping fee) and/or you chose not to have a temporary hold on your credit card for an express replacement.
In other words, you'll be without a phone for two weeks because you are CHOOSING to be without a phone for two weeks. Best of luck.

I've never said anything about this being the demise of Apple. Neither do I brag to my friends about something as shallow and material as an iPhone.
I agree, the actual engine works well (on an iPhone 5). But the interface is buck ugly. Alas, some like Picasso, some hate him. Where Android has solved that issue is to give users the ability to customize their interface. It's really strange that Apple, of all companies, does not operate in this realm of common sense. Because, for the most part, the complaints here, though they include commentaries on ugliness, have to do with actually useability. And that's a serious issue (the ability to read text, screens being too bright, etc.)
But on the note of artistic value... whether in music, art, or the interface of a mobile phone, humans tend toward beauty. In my opinion, Apple grossely missed the mark.
Just my two cents.

I would bet that lots of people will excercise some caution before upgrading to Maverick or the next iOS update and check things out first. I seriously, genuinely hope that they do.

Some of us give the best help we can. That's why we have lots of points. We have absolutely no power to stop you from holding any opinion you want. What I've noticed is that whenever people get up a head of steam over an issue (Apple Maps, iOS 7, iTunes whichever version) and people disagree with them, they cry censorship, start demanding to know "why are you here?", as if only people who agreed with them were allowed in "their" thread. Those who disagree with you have the same rights to post here as you do.

Don't blame your age on your issues.
No one said anything about age. People of all ages have eye issues or wear glasses.
Fanboy much?
Really? No one said ANYTHING about age? That's funny. I was responding to THIS:

Maybe I do need glasses, because I could SWEAR that's a reference to AGE. 😉
Then Verizon is helping you to VOID your iPhone warranty right now.
Haha that's rich! No I don't have apple care. I was also never offered any option of expedited service. What I did choose was to update a piece of equipment, that upon completion became unusable. So why should I have to pay off anything? I would expect expedited for free!
Dude, give your head a shake...

Solution: Call your carrier. They will roll back to iOS 6 on your iPhone 4 or exchange it for one that has iOS 6 software. Tech support also said I could do the same at any Apple Store, but I am just going to go to my carrier.
But it sounds like you need to bring the phone in for them to fix it.

Then your 'wonderful Apple rep' didn't do their job properly.
Why shoudl you have to pay anything? Because Apple never promised you free expedieted shipping. You got free regular shipping. Be happy with that.
Wanting something you didn't pay for... priceless.

Thank you for that last paragraph, Meg. I do appreciate that.
Also, I entirely agree with you regarding users taking responsibilty for jumping right in to a new iOS in terms of bugs, etc. That's part of the risk, and folks need to realize that. I too accepted the risk of updating, knowing that it might break an app or two. However, I don't depend on my phone for my living.
That said, it's one thing for Apple to change the engine and another to change the user experience so radically. That I did not expect and did not foresee and couldn't have foreseen until I was looking at it in my hand. It's just not something that Apple has ever done, which is to regress essentially to the graphics of the first hand held color screens. It's surprising that they would promote their retina screens so heavily... and then neuter them in terms of the everyday apps interface.

There isn't an Apple store in the world that will roll back the OS for you.
I spent all day at the store yesterday. It can't be done.
Verizon can't roll back the phone either. All they can do is trade your phone with one that has not been upgraded. Where I live Verizon won't even offer such a thing. Consider yourself lucky.
