iOs 7 on iPad 3

Hello there.

I have ipad 3, new ipad with 16gb and 3g hardware.

Did you notice battery drain? I had my battery down in something like 4.30 hours.

The keyboard is really slow, i noticed an important lag during the use of it!

Wifi perfomance is really bad.

The only thing the customer care answered me is that they have no information about this, and i'm the only one experencing this problem........

Someone noticed the same?

Thanks

There are about a handful of postings here about some iPad 3 owners who have had pretty poor experiences with the iOS 7 system upgrade.

Based on a lot of the bad issues reported in these few postings, I was very apprehensive about updating to iOS 7 and went a whole month without updating my iPad 3 solely based on the poor performance of iOS 7 reported in these postings.

There are a few things I still do not like overall about the "look" of iOS 7, but the amount of new functionality and some of the cool features really outweighed some of the issues I had with some of iOS 7's look and feel.

So, about two weeks ago, or so, I decided to risk it and download and install the update.

I always sync and backup my iPad on my Mac over iTunes. So, I decided to do the download and update with my iPad 3 connected up to my Mac and iTunes.

I have the older iPad 3 with the original 30 pin dock connector.

My report is that my iPad 3 is running great on iOS 7!

The download and install went off without any hiccups.

I have not had to turn any new features off other than some normal iOS features I leave off ,per app, like notifications and location services for apps that really do not need it.

I have not had any issues, freezes or crashes to date and eveything is still running well.

The iPad's screen has always been too bright for me. So, when inside in normal or nominal light conditions, my iPad was always set for 50% brightness or so, anyways.

With iOS 7 being more white, I have reduced my iPad's brightness setting down to around 40% or so.

The setting is below the 50% setting.

This reduces eye strain, plus increases the battery life of my iPad.

I am sorry to learn of iPad 3 owner/users whose iPads have been rendered near useless by the update.

I am curious to learn if this affected the older 30 pin dock connector iPad 3s or the newer generation Lighning connector iPad 3s.

So, despite what has been reported here, the operational and performance issues of iOS 7 are not affecting all iPad 3s currently in use.

Hey Michel,

There is only one iPad 3 and it has the 30 pin connector. The newer iPad 4 has the lightning connector and it also has a zippier processor and better graphics so if the millions of us who bought iPad 3's waited 6 months we most likely wouldn't be feeling the pain of iOS 7 we do now on the iPad 3.

Glad you had a smooth upgrade. I am curious to know if your Safari crashes at all. Also does your keyboard lag when typing. You can try leaving a comment here as there are over 19 pages of comments and my iPad 3 keyboard can't keep up with my fingers on here.

If you are ready for torture try typing a comment on a blog that uses Disqus comments.

This site always manages to crash Safari. Go ahead leave a comment as a guest see if you're successfull. Type a couple of sentences.

You are incorrect.

There were later iPad 3 models, that came out at the same time at the introduction of the iPad 4, that were changed to incorporate and use the new Lighning connector.

My keyboard does not lag at all.

I do not use the mobile Safari too much since iOS upgrade to iOS 4.

I never cared for how mobile version of Safari worked or acted.

I use a web browser called Perfect Web Browser.

Still works great on iOS 7.0.3.

I have never had any real vexing issues with this web browser and I feel it works and has a more robust feature set than mobile Safari browser.

Why would I try and use a website I never visit or use to begin with.

All of the sites I use and leave comments at all work fine with no issues.

Nov 5, 2013 5:05 PM in response to MichelPM

Found it on the site you won't visit just for testing purposes that's all 😝. http://bgr.com/2012/10/22/apple-ipad-3-lightning-updateoctober-23rd/

my guess is there aren't many floating around since the tweak came out one month before the iPad4 was launched. So yes you were correct I was wrong 😢. Anyway I can agree with you Safari is less than perfect but it would be nice if the browser Apple built that comes out of the box would just work without crashing. Since apparently it can't even on the iPad Air it's the reason behind most of my frustrations on iPad 3.

I Shall try the perfect browser to see how perfect it is.

spot the Apple executive, trying to plaster over the worst software update in history. IOS 7 is utterly hopeless. I could not even log in here, because the **** keyboard can no longer recognise capitals, at the speed i type at. and i am no pro typer, i can tell you.

So tell us, mr Apple executive, why does apple take functionality OUT of an operating system? why take a search function OUT of safari, when it was being used daily?? please tell us.

Why sign off an update, that makes apps crash all the time, and makes the system run at half speed?? Who signed this update off??

It's working fine on my iPad 3 as well. I've had no trouble with it at all. And, no, I don't work for Apple. No one here does.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? And, since you apparently weren't paying attention, the abilitiy to search Safari from Spotlight has been added back. Have you updated to 7.0.3?

Sneaked back in under the radar, without anyone telling me.

this gets even better. first Apple deletes functionality, and then assumes that customers will use telepathy to realise the old functions have been reinstated. Still begs the question as to who signed off the original update, when a child of six would have understood that it was not a finalised product.

And the keyboard still will not produce capitals, at normal typing speeds.

You can search Safari from the "Omnibox" as Chrome Calls it. Just type in your search in the address bar, you will be swept away from seeing anything on the site. Your search results will appear at the very bottom of the list and then if you tap on one of them you are swept off your feet back to the website in the marvelous Safari upgrade which crashes every time you switch a tab. iOS 7 is much better on the iPad Air (You can type with Capitals) but Safari still crashes believe it or not. $750 tablet and only 1GB of Ram. Just check the Diagnostics and you will see the low memory PList files. Safari lives here.

PS. Jony Ive signed off on iOS7 and after Mavericks you can kiss the traditional OS X we know goodbye.

No, Apple assumes that people will apply the updates.

You still haven't answered the question: What troubleshooting steps have you already taken?

I have no problems with the typing speed on my device. Some people who have have been able to resolve it by going to Settings>iCloud>Documents & Data and setting it to off.

When all else fails, restore the device as new then resync.

I had done the update, thank you, but if Apple hides the 'find' function in the web-browser entry line, how am I supposed to know it is there?

This gets better and better. so I take my car in for service, and it won't do more than 50mph afterwards. I call the dealer, and he says - "well, have you bothered to retime the ignition and adjust the fuel ratio in the injectors - path, these customers who cannot even be bothered to troubleshoot the maintenance we do......"

As it happens, I have done the resets recommended. But this is all deception, pure and simple.

What Apple want you to do is to keep using the iPad while doing various 'fixes', so that you get used to the abysmal keyboard speed. After a while, you think this is normal. There is no 'fix', it is all subterfuge.

Judging by the fact that there are almost 45,000 views of this thread, apparently, there really is a problem.

My take is that Apple knew and possibly counted on poor performance on iPad 3s, especially the older ones in an attempt to encourage upgrades. After all, my iPad 3, 30-pin connector model was working just fine for me before iOS7. And, I was absolutely in love with it. I lived on it all day long at work and used it much of the time at home as an entertainment, social-networking device.

Now, I nurse the thing and care for it like it has cancer. 😠😠😠

I can only confirm what the most of you said. I was so happy with my iPad 3. Acually I like iOS7's design and functions. But after upgrading on iOS7 my iPad 3 (which is only 1 year and 3 months old) is USELESS. Everything is lagging, nothing is working anymore 100%. I am very disappointed. Actually, you can use Apple products over 2-3 years without noticing that the device is getting older....

What I have loved with Apple product was that it always worked so smoothie. Now?? It even laggs when I want to write an Email! AND NOOO; I WILL NOT BUY THE NEW IPAD AIR!!! who knows, maybe they are going to release the next iPad in 5 months!!

I am very disappointed. I am a student and saved money to buy the iPad 3, after 5 months they already released iPad 4 and today nothing is working anymore like before...

Hope they can fix the laggs but I dont really expect that...

Go to accessibility settings and turn on reduce motion and There is another setting increase contrast I believe which will turn off the blurring effect. These two things will help along with 7.0.3 / .4 has came out yesterday but I haven't tested it yet.

I totally agree with you in regards to the upgrade push. Apple loves being non fragmented even if it means their software bricks your old device. No problem go upgrade it fixes everything.

Apple is never big on bleeding edge future proof specs. Case in point 1gb of ram on the iPad Air and iphone. Sure it's just enough that it will run iOS7, but what will happen when iOS8 comes out and heaven forbid we need multi window multi tasking to do a calculation while viewing a excel file or watching a youtube video while replying to an email? What would it cost them to add more ram $5? Sure the A7 is impressive but pairing it with 1gb of ram which my playbook has is absurd.

I like apple I do use a lot of their products and while they dont look or feel cheap its scary when you take off the hood.
