deleting podcasts in iTunes 11.1

I upgraded to iTunes 11.1 this morning and many of the podcasts that I have watched and deleted or decided not to watch and deleted came roaring bac to my screen and I can't delete then.

The delete button no longer works for one item or for a highlighted group of items.

I subscribe to the Slate gabfest for example and every podcast back to the first of this year suddenly reappeared.

Thanks For The Help

It threw me off at first too.

The ones that you cant delete, do they have a little cloud icon next to them?

If so, they are not on the comptuer, they are available to download from the cloud.

the ones without the cloud icon I can delete but they still show just in case I want to download them again.

Excellent advice Striker. Thanks. As of now, that is the best srategy. What a pain though, especially when you have a lot of podcasts. The previous system worked fine.

Subscribe, check for new episodes, download, unsubscribe.

Also, make sure you click each podcast and click "Don't Allow Auto-Delete".

Yeah, that's a huge pain. I'm thinking of completely unsubscribing to iCloud. I'm guessing that will make this problem go away, but what about all my podcasts that were on my hard drive, but that got moved to the cloud? Will I lose all those? Why hasn't anyone from apple posted here? there are three pages of ****** off people. We need a fix immediatley.

iCloud has nothing to do with this at all. The cloud icon for each episode refers to downloadability from the originator's server (just as with purchased songs it indicated downloadability from the iTunes Store server). Songs and podcasts are not stored on iCloud.

Apple appear to have re-jigged the podcasts section so that it looks and behaves the same as songs - unfortunately this has resulted in the inability to delete un-downloaded or deleted episodes from the listing, and the continuation into the next episode down the list, as songs do: it's not clear whether these were deliberate decisions or untinended consequenses.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it, except send feedback to Apple (who don't post or read here): http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

Two complaints about the new iTunes 11.1. You cannot delete anything within the List View. Yes, yiou can use the My Podcast view instead, but I like the compactness of the List view. I have used it forever and having to use My Podcasts as a work-around until Apple fixes this is a real pain in the tuckus. The other issue is that there is no longer a way to modify the ID3 tags within iTunes! I subscribe to a music podcast. By changing the ID3 tags from v2.2, to v1.1, I can export the podcast and re-import it as "music" so it does not clutter my podcast feed view. The podcast just becomes a permanent new music track. This is no longer an option. These were not issues in the developer versions, only the final IOS 7 release. Come on Apple! You are better than this!

FINALLY list view seems to be fixed. I had imported from backup all my saved NPR Tiny Desk Top concerts that were erased and they were all deleted AGAIN but hopefully the new import will stick. Lost a few other podcasts but it seems like too much effort to go through backups and try to identify them again, so I guess they are gone. Just happy to have list view back to functional.

This is getting annoying,

so with the update to 11.1.1 I can now delete old podcasts from list view in iTunes

HIOWEVER..............

now on my Apple TV 'ALL' of those old podcast episodes show up in every list greyed out and completely unplayable! making using My Apple TV a pain to use

ironically the only way to stop all of theose undownloaded, unwanted old podcasts from appearing on my Apple tv is to have them ALL listed in iTunes with every episode unchecked and set to 'mark as watched/played'

then when I sync to my Apple TV the interface is clean again, no old episodes,

so you would think that I could now delete those undownloaded, unchecked and 'marked as watched' episodes from iTunes and they would be gone forever right?

nope if I delete those episodes from iTunes, they all show up as the greyed out ghosts back on My Apple TV

what a MESS!

Apple you need to GET IT RIGHT!

Hi Everyone.

I am having the same problems that you are all describing here, Apple do not read what is posted in here.

You need to leave feedback on the feedback page http://www.apple.com/feedback/ They do read this as I have found out. The moor people that submit feedback regarding these issues the more chance of getting it fixed.

You can also e-mail Tim Cook direct as I have done and explain your issues, this does get read although Tim does not reply in person but you do get a response.

I spent the best part of an hour on Friday talking with Steffen Morr Exec Relations explaining all the issues that we are having, it is from him that I learned that they do not read these forums and that the only way to get a response is by the routes above.

I left Steffen in no doubt that I was not happy with the recent update / downgrade of both iTunes and iOS and that if his products could no longer do what I needed, I no longer needed his products. He is away talking with the developers and I expect to hear from him durning the week. I am not sure what the result will be but if we all tell them what is wrong maybe they will listen.
