Does iOS 7 Slow Down an iPhone 4?

Ok, seems there is some relief for us iphone 4 users who have reluctantly up/downgraded to ios7..

Ios 7.1 seems to be a step in the right direction of ios7.

Still not as good as ios 6 but it is a MUCH better ios7 experience now.. Keep up the good work. I can imagine it getting even better in a .2 rls.

My iPhone 4 works again after upgrading to ios 7.1!

I thought I was going to have to throw in the towel with Apple all together as I felt utterly cheated that a perfectly good phone was tuned into a lump of lard by an "upgrade".

Thank you Apple but for God's sake THINK before you try to trash peoples older devices, it won't convince them to buy shiney new ones from you!

I will certainly never dare to 'upgarde' my iPhone 4 from now on. I'm waiting till you get your fingers out and bring out a large screen iPhone again now but only because you fixed my iPhone 4.

Yes, the iOS 7.1 update is definitely good for the iPhone 4. My phone works a lot better now. Thank you Apple ! 🙂 I would suggest all iPhone 4 users on iOS 7 to install the 7.1 update.

I still have issues with iOS 7.1 on my iPhone 4. It is still laggy, slow and just a pain to use. I have the 5 but when I cracked the screen I was goign to use to 4 until the new device gets release (most likely) later this fall however, I just can't get the 4 working well enough to use.

You can try the other fine tuning tips mentioned earlier in this post and see if it helps.

This is exactly why I've told people with iPhone 4 not to upgrade; it just doesn't run up to Apple's standard. Even the 3G and 3GS still run fast on their latest versions; I don't understand why Apple didn't make sure the 4 didn't run fast. They really need to test on the lowest version applicable to make sure it's as fast and reliable as they've proven to be in the past; this is the first time I've seen an Apple product run this slow and it's disappointing (like a mid-range Android phone).

i firmly believe they purposely made it too slow so you HAD to buy a new iPhone ... otherwise they'd let us downgrade to iOS 6

Well you can at least turn in your iPhone 4 to your carrier for some credit to use when upgrading to a 4s or even a 5c. As of May 8, Apple stores will take it for $99 credit though the 5s and c. There is no turning back to iOS 6 though. Apple is now pushing the iOS 7 more to all supported devices. It has a 80% adoption rate with only 17% on iOS 6 and 3% on iOS 5 and older. Even with a bug recently with the FaceTime App on 6.1.3, they still made those people upgrade to iOS 7 if possible with the iPod (4th generation) and other unsupported devices able to get 6.1.5. We kinda have to face fact that iPhone 4 is dead to Apple. It's now four years old and most cellular plans allow the customers to get new phones every 1 or 2 years.

I was extremely dissapointed with performance of ios7 on my iphone4. Then I slammed my phone in a truck door, and thought, hey, great time to upgrade. In the meantime, I went to a kiosk in a mall to see if they could fix it, so I could sell it. $80 later, new screen, new bezel, new back, and for some reason, the phone is much faster than it was. Everything is responsive and any pauses between apps opening feel reasonable. While I'm sure it's not as fast as a new phone, I feel like the only real reason to upgrade now is for a better camera. . . Especially considering the costs of the new 2 year contracts in Canada.

Anyway, something to consider. It doesn't really make sense, but it seems to work.

Very unhappy with performance now. When I delete voicemails after listening to them I can delete one very quickly, the second one takes about 20 seconds to finally delete but when I try the third one my phone generally locks up completely and I have to reboot it. I have called numerous times and asked an expert at an Apple store and no solution. iOS7 is the culprit and has made me absolutely hate my iPhone. Too bad I can't go back to iOS6.
