iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app. Several hard resets have had no effect.

Follow-up: iPhone 5c was back from repair with phone carrier here in Ireland at the beginning of the week. They just switched to a new phone, so no repair, then no idea what was the problem. I am not even sure that Apple knows really, they have probably a quality contract with their suppliers to replace "freely" a percentage of the manufactured phones...

After restoring the backup from iTunes, the camera is working. I will post back if any issue raises.

Obviously this is a hardware problem, maybe triggered by an code change in the iOS update.

So really an advice to everyone here, go back to where you bought your iPhone (not Apple necessarly), that's how Apple will "listen" about it. Especially if it gives a lot of work to a carrier or retailer, they may complain to Apple too!!

Cheers.

I've accepted that my camera will never work and am very angry at apple. Just posting to let everyone know that if you want to use snapchat the app will freeze. To fix this I have learned that if u sign in fresh, the front camera works and you are able to open snaps. The app will freeze again eventually and you must wait until snapchat signs you out or delete the app and reinstall it so you can sign in fresh again. This will allow you send all the selfies in the world and also receive snaps which is better than nothing at this stage. Anyone finds a cure let me know! :)

Add me to the list of people who have a nonfunctioning camera...Sometimes it will work but then freezes. If I try to video tape it works for about 4 seconds and then I get a purple stripe down the left side of the screen and the camera freezes. I have an appointment with the 'genius' bar on Tuesday...we'll see what happens. I'm not hopeful given I have an iphone 5 but the 5s/5c seem to have the same issue.😟

One of the users in my office brought in her 5C and was having this issue. I did a hard reboot holding down the top lock button and the home button unitl i saw the apple logo, but that didn't fix it.

Then i just held down those same two buttons for about 2 minutes. When you see the apple logo just keep holding them down, it will go to just a black screen and look like nothing happening. Then after about 2 minutes release the two buttons. Then push the lock on/off button once and wait for it to reboot.

When the 5C came back up it works now! And the phone she says seems to be running faster. Im guess this is the equivalent to a SMC reset for an apple computer. However Apple has not said that is what it is called.

Hope that helps someone!

Hi All. Too late for me I'm afraid. Thanks to Apple's appalling behaviour over this, I have bought a Samsung Galaxy 4 for a phone (removable battery and expansion card - take note Apple) and a MS Surface Pro 2 for a tablet. I never thought I would be leaving Apple but when a company totally ignores the pain of their customers, they will reap what they sow.

Hi Adrian,

Well if Apple is still a little connected to customers' needs, they will love to hear this!! With my experience of Apple (20 years), I waited to need it before taking an iPhone, and I had a Samsung Galxy S for a long while (still working, but slow and stuck in time becasue of no "legal" Android OS update). The first generation is usually tricky, like all major updates. Except for security concerns or urgent need, I always wait a week or two before applying any software update, and even more if it is a major one. But I did not wait for iOS 7 because the phone was new and nearly no custom settings. I should have waited v 7.x+1...

We, as a community and regular customers, will be more than happy to know your experience with these devices, as you will be able to make some meaningful comparisons.

Looking forward to know more!!

All the Best,

Hervé
