iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app. Several hard resets have had no effect.

It boggles mind mind that a) Apple refuses to respond on this issue and b) that no media has picked up on this -- or if they have, they're unwilling for some reason to write about it. I did contact one tech writer who (metaphorically) shrugged and said, well, it doesn't seem to affect that many people. I pointed out to him that there are 32 pages of similar complaints on the iphone site (and I'm sure thousands of more people who haven't complained here.) Then he said, well, hopefully they'll get it fixed when 8.0 comes out. And, good luck! Meanwhile, I had to pay $300 for a phone (since I'm not upgrade eligible yet), which was the best "deal" they could give me.

HELLO APPLE. THIS. IS. A. MAJOR. PROBLEM. WITH. YOUR. PRODUCT. At least address is please. It's unconscionable to keep sticking your head in the sand.

Pressing the front of the phone where the camera is located REALLY hard and restarting WORKED for me as suggested by Radcl77!!!!

I was about to give up and simply get a SAMSUNG S5... pay attention APPLE, you almost lost a customer of over 15 years!! I currently own 2 iMacs, a macbook pro, an iPad and an iPhone... let's show a little customer appreciation.

Sincerely,

AiQ

I tried this -- and every other "fix" suggested on this board. Setting aside the fact that we shouldn't have to be playing Geek squad with our very expensive phones, none of them worked in a permanent way. The "pressing hard" solution worked for about 10 minutes. The others worked for about the same amount of time. I think the broader point is Apple's utter refusal to address this issue. Hello Apple, are you out there reading these messages? Question to the board: since the media seems unwilling to put this information out there (puzzling, given the many bugs they have been willing to report) is there a way we can get some attention on this?

Hi everyone. I got my iPad 4th Retina Display from the United States more than a year ago. (No warranty anymore, thanks to the meaningless United States laws for not giving 2-year warranty as the rest of the world does!) I got the same rear camera problem since the ios7 update. I used the device with ios 6 without any problems but after ios 7, the rear camera is totally gone and from time to time, the OS says "overheated, need to cool down before continue".

I've read every single post in these 32 pages. I tried everything. Nothing worked for me! 😟 I called Apple many times and they just did not helped a bit! Apple USA support says that yes my device is an American device, but it is located outside of US, so they cannot help! Apple Turkey support team says that the device is here in Istanbul, but it was bought from USA so they cannot help!

I talked wit a local techical service of Apple, and they wanted $350 for a replacement.

I even told the senior advisors that I only wanted to talk with "Sarah Elizabeth" because I've read that she has the authority to send a brand new device with UPS, but then I learned that she is in the customer relations team, and that team only works within the United States borders!

By the way, I chatted with advisors and senior advisors a lot: Terry, Victor, Daniel, James, Brandon... One of them just closed the chat screen on my face while I was still writing! I wasn't rude or anything. I was just begging for a help! I do NOT think that any customer deserves such a behaviour. I paid a lot to get that device, and they can easily shut down my chat screen! 😠

I'm out-of-hope now and I'm not expecting Apple to hear our voice and release a fix, anymore. The only thing i can do now is to wait for the release of IOS 8 and hope that it will be fixed with it. (Release date: Fall 2014) 😐

I wish Mr.Jobs could see this "awarded"-customer care service of Apple today! 😠

I wish, instead of this malfunctioning iPad, I had choosed Android OS for the tablet, jus' like i did with the cellular phone. (HTC rocks, it is not like a dummy iPhone, thank God!)

😟 😟 😟

I'm so sorry that you're rear view camera or any camera on your iphone5 is not working. I too was having this problem coincidentally around the time right after I did the ios7update. I brought my phone into apple for diagnostics and what not and they told me I needed to replace the camera which could not be replaced on it's own and needed to be turned into apple for a whole entire new phone replacement for $286. That was an odd number to me.. So I told them no I would not do that and I will not upgrade... I did the whole push really hard into the corner portion where the rear view camera was and that only worked a few times where I could take photos and videos for a little while, but then the flash and the camera continued to not work again.

Long story short I recently brought it into a local technical shop and they charged me way less than $286. Basically charged me only for labor to install a brand new camera for my iphone5 and all in all it is working again. I would advise that you do the same I did.

Go into apple to see if they are really bullshitting you. If it is a hardware problem and nothing to do with the ios7 updates or software because most likely you have dropped your phone a couple-few times and it might've shaken the censors or whatever is grounding the camera down... So I would go and bring it into a tech shop that has a good reputation, good warranties, and good people who will gladly want to help fix your phone.

If you aren't lucky with that then you would probably have to obey to Apple and simply buy a new phone or leave apple and get a droid...

My camera, flash and auto portrait stopped working all in about a three month period. I've tried every solution under the sun except for throwing it as hard as I can on the black top drive way. I've always loved Apple but this is it for me. They can't come up with some solutions or recalls I'll never buy an apple product again. And that means replacing about 70 apple computers and iPads. I'd rather deal with viruses than hardware and they don't care issues.
