iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app. Several hard resets have had no effect.

Same problem and no warranty left. My advice, when your contract is due for a new phone, switch to Google Android. Ever since this happened I started searching for other phones to get out of this Apple crap. I didn't realize the Google Android phone was much more superior than the iPhone. Comes with a 2 year warranty too. Smart phones have come a long way and I hope Apple will start loosing their share in the market. Their ethics and customer service are

horrible if u don't have warranty left. And for producing software that ends up with apps not functioning, decrease the life of your battery etc etc...they should fix the problem, not ask for more money for you to fix their problem they've caused.

I had the problem with my camera not working on back facing. It was just showing all white in any camera apps i used on my Iphone 5. I have recently upgraded to IOS7, but not sure that was it. I went to the Apple Store today and I showed the employee my problem and he immediately got me a new phone. My phone would have been out of warranty on 12/30/13, so this happened just in time. He made no mention that there was a known software of hardware problem. I did ask if it was related to the IOS7 upgrade and he said NO. However, I do believe that this is a known Iphone 5 problem, whether IOS related or hardware related, because of the quickness he made the decision to get me a brand new phone. Since my warranty expires at the end of December, I asked him what if it happens again Would I have to purchase a new phone for $600? He said, no, if you bring it back to an Apple store when it's out of warranty, they would charge you about half price for a replacement. So, that at least, is better than having to buy a whole new phone at regular retail price.

I was pleased with my result, but I really think that Apple should come out with this "known issue" so that people don't suffer or go to their phone carrier and pay for a complete upgrade at full price, which is what I almost did.

I thank Apple for honoring their products, but again, I think they should own up to this problem. That is one thing they never seem to be able to own up to.

Took my iPhone 5 to the Apple store in the UK today and after reinstalling both the firmware and iOS the camera is still not working. Like others on here the camera broke immediately after upgrading to iOS7. The back camera is completely blank but the front camera works, although I often need to close the camera app, double click the home button, swipe up the camera app and then reopen the app and switch views to get it to work. When I try switching back to the rear camera the screen goes blured.

I also tried performing those steps but doing a hard reset in between swiping the camera app closed and reopening the camera app. This, the first time I trie it at least, resulted in the rear camera working and I managed to take a picture. Since then it's been blank and further attempts to try this have proved fruitless.

It's way too much of a coincidence with the number of people on here suffering exactly the same issue after upgrading the iOS for this NOT to be an issue with the upgrade process.

Unfortunately for me I'm 3 week out of warranty and they want me to paye £209 for a new phone. I'm really not happy doing this and am going to have to escalate this with Apple.

As an update to my own case, I called Apple about this and once again the agent said I was the first camera issue he'd heard of after the iOS upgrade. Which is just ridiculous, and clearly they have been scripted to say this. He saw the hyperlink to this discussion in my case history (from the chat transcript captured during my initial contact) and he asked if I was basically looking for compensation. I said **** yes, and he put me in line to talk to customer relations. It took too long, but I was told to call back and they'd sort it out.

I already paid for the out-of-warranty replacement, and I'm looking for my money back.

I suggest everyone calls Apple if they haven't already. Clearly no fix is imminent.

wait till the day you're out of warranty and till the next update should you experience some technical difficulties with your phone...When you go to the genius bar and hear their same song and dance that they give everyone else that it's the first problem that they have ever heard of it. They will then offer you other options are to pay a ridiculous amount of money to get it fixed, I think your tune with Apple will be different. This upgrade has outraged many people so much that one guy made headlines taking Apple to court about it. The business ethics of Apple is very dissappointing and once my contract is up...for all those experiencing problems, don't be afraid to speak up!Android is the way to go.
