Wife's phone has same problem. To be fair, she's had iOS7 installed since it came out. The problem really started when we tried using bluetooth with our new car. Since then, her wifi won't work.
A visit to the Apple Store was completely unhelpful as they say the wifi chip fried and cannot be fixed. And after two years she apparently still owes $240 of the subsidy with Bell Canada. We still need to get more info.
But regardless, this whole thing is **** absurd and she's probably going to take a look at Android phones. And this will certainly give me pause before considering the iPad Air.
For a 54 page thread with 100K views, I'm really shocked that this issue hasn't found its way onto the mainstream Apple blogs.
Apple has already lost so many clients and they still act as if nothing has happened...
Honestly folks, do you really believe you will be left unharmed by all this??
I have been without wifi 2 months now and still no solution... Half-talk and qvasi solutions (50% off from a replacement phone) but I will not pay not even a dime more..
Most people I know, are too afraid to download the 7.0.1/2/3 updates...
So guess what.. No more Apple for many-many-many people (globally) after this fiasco!
Android phones have become equally good appliances at a far lesser price, with a 2 year guarantee and no funny business when it comes to donwloading upgrades..
What's the point on paying for a "ferrari", when the motor dies after 1 year?!?! Apple has become just a cheap, 2nd hand fake..
I have a similar issue, but doesn't seem to be exactly the same. My mom has an Ipad 5. Whenever she visits, she gets on my wifi. I have two wifi routers at my house, either worked fine for her. Since her upgrade to 7.0, she can't access my networks. "Unable to join the network "......"" is the message she gets. I have three Iphones on IOS7 that connect fine, and a MacBook Pro that is connected. Her Ipad won't connect. I have followed every guide(changing IPAD name, resetting, restarting, etc.) and every router configuration possible, without security/password, with, different ones, fully open, etc. Nothing. Can't connect at all. She sees the networks fine, just won't connect.
To gvarnell,
Does your two wifi routers have a long name with the same characters for the first part of the name?
Example:
Router1 SSID = "Johnnie_Appleseed's_wifi_2.4GHz"
Router2 SSID= "Johnnie_Appleseed's_wifi_5GHz"
if iOS7 for some reason only recognize the first part of the name, then the ipad would not be able to join either network reliably.
Remove the apostrophe from the router's SSID and the iPhone's name, if there is one. Shorten the SSID name.
Do not turn enable 40MHz channel for 2.4GHz router.
Turn off one router first.
Do enable WMM.
Security for 802.11n is now required to be WPA2-PSK AES (not TKIP anymore)
Is the iPad5's IP address fixed on the router? If yes, remove it, try joining again.
Or, try setting fixed IP address for the ipad 5 on the router, and set same IP on the ipad5.
Power cycle the router to flush out the dhcp table.
You said ipad 5? Are you refering to the newly released iPad Air?
Upgrade to ios7? It should come with ios7.
I find this part a possible cause of wifi logon trouble:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Host_Configuration_Protocol
"A DHCP client can also request its last-known IP address (in the example below, 192.168.1.100). If the client remains connected to a network for which this IP is valid, the server may grant the request. Otherwise, it depends whether the server is set up as authoritative or not. An authoritative server will deny the request, making the client ask for a new IP address immediately. A non-authoritative server simply ignores the request, leading to an implementation-dependent timeout for the client to give up on the request and ask for a new IP address."
If the ipad retained its last IP address over the upgrade to ios7, it'll request it's last known IP address. Now if the router uses the non-authoritative server method of ignoring the request, but let's suppose Apple's implementation has a very long timeout, the we could see an idevice not being able to join the wifi network.
Best regards.

ios 7.0.4 is out... Did it fix the Wi-Fi problem?
LOL! How cute.
"This update requires a Wi-Fi network connection to download."
While I'm sure we can download through iTunes - I found this to be just a tad bit ironic. I'll post back once I am able to get back to my workstation to install and test.
well.. i already sold my iphone 4s(no wifi, after put it in the freezer it only worked for a few days), I told my friend that if he would move to Sibiria or the North pole the wifi would work fine.
just like to inform people the promblem with my iphone is now sorfted i took it to the apple genius and they gave me a brand new iphone 4s which was no cost to my self thank god and it was 2months out warranty they was no arguements what so ever so if you have a promblem with apple project i woud reccomand going to a apple retail store with genius they where really helpful it as stored my faith back in apple
That's all well and good. I don't live anywhere near an Apple store, however. But the major problem here is that Apple is not acknowledging a problem and providing ways to solve it for an expensive device. If they are confronted with the problem, like meeting a customer face-to-face at one of their stores, then they respond with a fix. Otherwise, THEIR update is the CUSTOMER'S problem. Truly poor business.

Just FYI folks - the latest iOS update (7.0.4) does NOT fix the greyed out wi-fi issue for me.
Apple has finally recognized there indeed is a problem

Everyone, please refer to this Apple knowledgebase article when claiming support.

Yeah - that's been there for a while now. The reset network settings did not work to un-grey my wifi toggle. Restoring from iTunes did bring back the ability for me to toggle wi-fi however wi-fi did not function.
:-( had not been aware of this. Noticed a new modified date of nov/13 in this practically 'one liner' kb article..
