Two more dysfunctional iPhones here. Upgraded both 4s phones and now no wifi functionality.

THIS IS CLEARLY A FLAW in the firmware upgrade.

Apple is responsible and doubless will have to fix the issue or suffer media shame.

Social Meida is the way to exert pressure for a fix, suely.

hi there ok i to have the same promblem with the ios 7 update how every mine was with the update 7.03 now my iphone 4s wifi is grayed out and tryed every think to soft out the issue i even called apple tech team which we went though stages of backing up phone and resetting to factory settings with ios 7.03 how ever i wanted to go back to ios 6 but you know what they said cant do that i think they should give you the opion of going back to oridally ios that was working.

how every after trying loads of differnt things they tell me its a hard wear problem and that i have to pay £146.44 for a recon phone that as only 3 months wanrranty on which i feel is out of order due to there crappy up date soding my phone up and i should be issued with a new phone and so should every one else that has had this problem my phone also beging 2 months out of wanrranty is also not good as a bussiness user i need the wifi on phone

how ever like all these other post i think we should complane to bbc watch dog to help get our point a cross

and that apple should send out beta versons before genral leasing any ios updates

Hi friends, just an FYI. I had to get 3 new iPhones from apple store (no charge to me) and when I got the third one they asked if I would like to update to ios 7, to which I said NO, bc by that time I had figured the issues, and read through some of y'alls posts. When I got first new phone, I had no idea it was ios 7, after 2nd people at apple store swore up and down it wasn't ios 7, I believed them, but third I knew. They claimed it wasn't ios7 and just simply my "bad luck", I unintentionally laughed, but he was serious. *Sigh. Anyway, after some attempted pressuring by the "genius" I left the apple store with the new phone, running ios 6.1.3. That was over a month ago, and I've had NO issues with my wifi. I, of course, have been slightly tempted to try the newest update, just out morbid curiosity but haven't yet. I have to say that I have always enjoyed my iPhones in the past but this whole experience had made me strongly consider getting something new next year with my upgrade. Wishing y'all some luck!

It's not the update. If it WAS the update ALL iPhones would be affected.

It's a hardware defect that is revealed because of excessive heat. The update process generates heat. Any source of excessive heat would have revealed the defect.

Unless you replacement is also defective, the update wont cause problems. But it's your choice. iOS 6 is a great system, so keep using it if you like.

Thanks for the info:) Seems like just a verbal technicality to me though. Ok, it's not the update. It's excess heat. But the update generates excess heat. So it is the update causing the excess heat, causing the malfunction.... So if I just simplify it and say its the update, that's wrong? Ok... I really do appreciate the information but I do feel like we're essentially saying the same thing. I may update, I enjoyed some of the features of ios7, but you can understand my hesitation after 3 new phones that had this "defect". Enjoy your day!!:)

Take your iPhone to the Apple Store and it will be swapped out for a new one. Our two iPhones failed in exactly the same way and Apple wonderfully replaced them [iPhone 4/4s].

I had delayed updating IOS for a number of weeks due to travel commitment and then when I went to 7.0.3 I experienced the same problem as described here with greyed out wifi, not resolved by changing 'apostrophes, resetting phone etc.

Well after being told that UK Apple would want to charge £146 + for a hardware repair on the basis that the fault was a hardware problem that coincindentaly occurred when I upated IOS with no clear supporting evidence.

I thought I have nothing to lose and made a decision that the only suggestion recorded above I had not attempted was a stint in the Fridge. Well I will be amazed the wifi function has fully returned and is now 24 hours later with out an issue. I can only imagine that the IOS install is overheating the WIFI chip.

I am apalled by the lack of engagement by Apple for what seems to have been a simple solution to try. I have had to reset phone probably for no gain.

coming to the end of my contract and will seriously take this attitude into account on next phone.

Apple usually has a very high customer satisfaction rate. I am sorry to hear your account of things.

This matter is NOT a "hardware failure". Your "coincidence" is no differnet from our multiple examples of the same problem. It is simply not concievable that multiple units would develop an identical fault and it be a hardware fault on all units.

I popped down to my local Apple Store with and explained that the firmware update had irreversibly disabled the WiFi an BlueTooth capability. I explained that all "soft reset" and "hard resets" had already been attempted along with full restores. The Apple Rep' appreciated we know our products.

Apple could not have been more helpful. On explaining this to the Rep' he swapped out our units for new replacements instantly.

The service and the attitude of Apple was first class.

Perhaps you might visit your local Apple Store [not a Reseller]. Things may work out fine.

This is not a matter of "heat". Updating your unit should not cause it to "overheat". Read the various threads on this and you will see the genuine problem.

Visit your Apple Store. Their service is usually outstanding.

Hi ya how long did you keep it on the fridge for and do you keep it in a case while it was in there

I took my 4S out of its case and put it in a zip-lock freezer bag and placed it in my freezer for 15 minutes. When I took it out wifi worked, but only for a day or two. After freezing it couple of times, I found these instruction on this thread. After following them I have had no problems and wifi was restored. However, I am not going to download any more software updates that's for sure. By the way, make sure after you do this you keep bluetooth always turned off. Here are the instructions:

1. Turn off Airplane mode (if on)

2. Turn cellular data off

3. Reset Network Settings via General, Reset, Reset Network Settings

I have the same issue. My iPhone 4S was working fine after upgrading to IOS 7. Apple Engineers must find a solution to this aberration. It's total unacceptable for a company like Apple set them self to lower standards and the foreign competitors take bigger chunks of their market and profit sharing. As a stockholder I do not appreciate wasting mine monies. Get off your back and laurel; And release IOS 7.0.4 NOW!!!!
