Has anyone who's phone was within the one year warranty had their phone replaced free? The wifi thing happened to me a year and two months after buying the phone (4s). What I hadn't realized is that people in the EU seem to be automatically covered for an extra year, asides from the one year Apple warranty. is that right? Has anyone successfully replaced the phone for free under warranty?
I had 11 days left on my original one year warranty and Apple replaces my 4s for free claiming "failed WiFi antenna".
You are absolutely right
this is really worked with me .... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amazing 😮😮😮😮
I tried numerous things based on posts:
- reset my network (didnt work - why should it, all my other devices are working, duh)
- reset the network settings to factory default on my iphone (didn't work - wifi still greyed out)
The problem IMHO is the wifi cheap is overheating.
I took the phone case off, powered off and put the phone in a plastic sandwich bag and put it in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Magic. (not really - theres is a bug in the os that makes the wifi search loop and then overheats the chip - pretty simple fix. The phone probably keeps looking for the network but thinks its already on it and loops to an overheat condition. They would never see this in their lab as they are running a large scale network)

All of these refrigerator and heat fixes are silly. Are people going to do this every time thay want WiFi? What do you do if you are at a bar... ask to put the phone in the beer chiller? Apple just has to own up to the fact they screwed up and created an IOS that damages iPhones at the customer's expense. Until they do that, everyone is just plain screwed over.😠
@BillGalacticHero - same was my case. With just 7 days left in warranty, Apple replaced my 4S with a new one. It came with 7.0.2 installed. Is it safe to upgrade to 7.0.4 ? I do not want to get into 'WiFi greyed out' issue once again. Anyone has tried upgrading the replacement phone to the latest version of iOS?
Thanks
It's not the iOS. It's the hardware. Your hardware was replaced, and the replacement has a 90-day warranty. I suggest that if you are planning to upgrade your iOS at all, then do it soon, to be confident that there are no issues with the replacement.
I have had not WiFi issues with .04 on my replacement 4s
@TJBUSMC1973 & @BillGalacticHero
Thanks a lot for your inputs. I upgraded to 7.0.4 on the replacement 4s. It went thru fine and no issues with WiFi.
Thanks again.
Switching on Airplane mode and then connecting Wi-Fi by entering password worked for me... :-)
Surprisingly switching off the Airplane mode (with Wi-Fi connected ) keeps both connected !!!
I'm convinced there's some sort of airplane mode bug in iOS7.
My problems first started on the first flight I took after updating. I used the airplane mode from the quick access tray a few times and poof! Glitches galore. Dozens of hard resets and slew of other troubleshooting didn't work. I tried turning Airplane Mode on (from the quick access tray) and did a network reset. Has worked like a charm for about a month now.
same problem there is no wifi connection. i tried whatever you recommend here but still not working. pls help me....
This is what I did and it worked...Download the Witness Driving app and overheat your 4s using the app with all settings enabled and make sure it is charging as well... it may take 1/2 hour or so (maybe longer)...after that let it cool down (I held mine out the car window while driving) and then just do a reset of all settings. It worked on mine and it also fixed the battery issue as well. It went almost a day before it dropped to 99%, just sitting (not being used). It heats up right by the wifi chip and when you are running video, nav and charging all at once it gets toasty...enough to do the trick. It's been fine for a week so far..... http://youtu.be/FBi7wkatyPQ
Mine worked for couple of days n then the same .. 😢😠
This time I tried this
1. Switching on Airplane mode
2. Remove all wi-fi connections i.e. forget...
3. switch on blue tooth
4. Re connect Wi-Fi by entering password
5. Switch off the Airplane mode (with Wi-Fi connected )
n I was lucky ...... all WiFi, SIM, Bluetooth connected !!!
Hope luck turns on u as well
