Same issue here with my iPhone 4! Also got some issues to control my music via bluetooth now... Need an update already ! Lot of glitches
Okay- I tried this again and I have WiFi *AND* I have the WiFi icon showing- all Internet dependent Apps seem to work now.
Settings- Control Center- disable the Access on Lock Screen and exit Settings. Power off iPhone. Wait a minute a restart.
Here is a previous posting of mine from earlier today:
Hey. I may have stumbled onto to something. Now, I did change the name of my iPhone and removed the apostrophe, but I'd tried that before with no result. So I'd put it back in. Well, I went back in and removed it again, but I also went into Settings- Control Center- and deactivated "Access on Lock Screen": held power button down to shut phone off and then restarted. I now have WiFi: again with no WiFi symbol in upper left corner. In Settings Wi-Fi shows 'Off' but touching the WiFi button opens Wi-Fi settings and in there it's on and showing my homenetwork joined. I'm receiving email, opened Safari and able to connect- ****. It just went down again. Hmmmm. I opened settings went to wifi and it joined my network again. Safari works. Tried Check, my financial app- and it's searching :(
This is buggier than a campground in Maine in July!!!!
iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.2, IOS 7.0
I have given up on any "quick fix" (although I appreciate everyone sharing). This is an OS issue and needs to be addressed as such by the maker of the OS.
Not sure if it's been mentioned but if you have the ability to use your iPhone as a hotspot (as I do) that also won't work because Wi-Fi needs to be on. My wi-fi button will not toggle and is always "greyed" out.
Hopefully Apple will include this fix in an eagerly anticipated update!
And to top it all off I also feel like my battery is getting eaten alive.
So just as I was finishing my post I tried the keenevisionpost from Sep 23, 2013 11:27 AM (in response to scoho).
And wouldn't you know - it worked! I have Wi-fi now. I have no idea why disabling control center from the lock screen has anything to do with any of this but I have wi-fi now. Let's see how long it lasts!
No such luck for me -- I still get the message "Unable to join the network"
Did you have any problems with the Wi-Fi address prior to fixing this? My Wifi address after going into Settings -- General and About on my iPhone says N/A for Wifi. Or did you always see the address when you couldn't toggle the wifi?
Thanks -- desperate to get my phone working!
Mokitchener- sorry, I didn't notice that.
Now- my wifi dropped off again some 2-3 hours after I got it fixed.
I had the greeted out Wi-Fi button, frozen screen again. Too awhile but I got it active again- I think I had to actually go into Control Center, turn ON "Access From Lock Screen" them back out, go back in and disable it, exit Settings to home page, power off and then wait a minute and THEN power up. Go back into wifi settings and I was able to turn on wifi again. But this is stupid!!!!!
Go into Settings-General-Accessability-reduce motion and turn that ON. it's the effect of your icons 'floating' on your home screen: useless and energy consuming.
The above is addressing the issue Berms was mentioning.
I meant Bharris!
I have a potential fix.
I could not connect to Wifi when I first set up my iPhone after ios 7 upgrade. I had to restart my router (which is in a unified device with my modem) after disconnecting everything plugged into the router/modem. Then, once the router/modem had completely cycled back up, I inserted my password on the iPhone, and I finally connected. I hope this helps. (I joined the community because after calling on the resource so many times, I'd like to be able to assist someone.) Best wishes.
Thanks graysonip. I did this as well and it worked one time, but when I left my home and came back I could not reconnect, even repeating the above. Unfortunately, it is not possible to reboot the router in my office or as others have mentioned in a coffee shop, etc. Thanks for your recommendation. I really hope that Apple is acknowledging the issue and planning to resolve it.
I had the same problem after the IOS 7 upgrade. Could not even see networks. Did everything with no help. Took it to the Genius Bar and, just before being seen, shut Find My Iphone off as you are supposed to do. Suddenly my WiFi was normal, and I could connect at the Apple store. I turned Find my IPhone back on, and went home. WiFi works fine. It was a surprise at Apple, and it was a surprise for me. Somebody else try this out and see if it helps you. It is weird.
I have the same issue, wifi button greyed out, then I reset, then wifi works and goes off after a short while. When I try to go in to wifi settings, the screen freezes! Have tried every solution going to no avail. So I too am adding my name to this thread. Disappointing apple.
