Iphone 4s ios 7 battery issues

Seems that your Wifi icon indicates poor connection quality. I have noticed on my 4S that it becomes a bit frantic in the background when it cannot properly lock onto a wifi network, which impacts battery consumption.

Things get even worse if you have on top an automatic app update still activated, because then it will try to use intensively the wifi that it cannot lock on, which goes even harder on the battery.

These two were the main things which I tuned on mine (iOS 7.0.3). Autonomy isn't exactly as good as with iOs 6, but yesterday I still had about 40% at end of day (Wifi and 3G on the whole day).

This being said, I am cautious ... and I'll wait a bit before moving to iOs 7.0.4. Just in case ...

I cant use my phone any more, If i take 1 picture my iPhone dies right after!

Does this happen with any of you?

I am currently using Nokia E66 and it lasts for 5 days!!!

I am going to USA soon, I will go to Apple store and give them the iPhone and demand a new one same model or 5s or 5c as this one is messed up because of them and not me!!!

APPLE AND THEIR PRODUCTS ARE RIDICULOUS! I AM VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!

NEVER BUY AN APPLE PRODUCT AGAIN!!!

Well, at least for me, iOS 7.0.4 has fixed my battery drain issues for my iPhone 4S! Where before this update I would often end up significantly below 50% at the end of a day of very, very light use, I now end up at about 80-85% remaining! This is as good as it was under iOS 5 !!! I am delighted to have my phone back. I'm just hoping that things stay this way and that a future update doesn't ruin it. I sure I wish I knew what Apple did to fix this, because it is dramatic.

Has anyone actually taken their phone in to the Genius bar having tried all the tips/tricks, restored phone as new etc?

Yes. They tested my battery and it failed so they replaced it. That fixed my problem but it wouldn't fix the issue if they found that some weird background process was in play.

the poor wifi in that screenshot is because I took the screenshot when I was jumping into my car heading to work. So, I was at the edge of my wifi coverage.

The thing is, before the 13th Nov. everything was fine. I had my wifi on the whole day, no matter where i was (City, work, home, highway) Before I needed to charge my 4S only 2 times a WEEK !

Now I can watch the battery drain. And if the iPhone is "on" it gets hot especially in this area:

This being said, feeling heat at that specific location on the back of your 4S seems to indicate that some app keeps the processor busy. That is also consistent with the 3h and so of proc usage that you noticed overnight while nothing was supposed to run.

So, anything specific you did on November 13th e.g. install a new app ? Best thing I guess would be to install one of the numerous free activity monitoring apps in order to identify the guilty process or app, and then start the hunt back from there ...

For perspective, as I am typing this email, my own 4S indicates 36% battery remaining. unplugged since roughly 10 hours, wifi/bluetooth/3G on, some limited web surfing and ca 40 minutes over the phone. The back panel isn't specifically hot. As already said, not as good as it used to be with iOs 6 (so Im NOT happy with iOS 7) but still allows me to reach home without the need to plug in.

Well, I spoke too soon. I thought the problem had been fixed by recalibrating the battery. Not so.

Twice this week the phone has shut down, no warning, once showing 45% charge and once showing 66% charge. The phone would not turn on, but upon plugging into to power, the previous charge level (45%, 65%) is shown.

What a mess.

My wife and I have both experienced major battery drain. With the latest 7.0.4 update. Seems as though something is draining battery even when not used. Major pain can't even get through a day without having to charge phone.

Both iPhone 5 users.

I've shut off all the features.

I've been the the Genius Bar.

They wiped and re-applied iOS7 (.0.3 at the time). And told me NOT to restore from my backups.

Are things working better? Yes - incrementally. Is it functioning at the pre-iOS 7 level? No

Am I happy about losing all the data I backed up and thought I could restore? Heck no.

Odd thing is that everyone at the Genius Bar that day was being re-imaged with iOS7. Every. Single. Person. What does this tell us? Either there are known issues or the Geniuses just are re-imaging hoping the problem goes away.

Very frustrating to be paying a lot of money and not being able to use my phone for long.

All features are off.

Feels like I'm using a flip phone because all I can do is text and call, everything else I do kills the battery.

Regret getting a iPhone.

I am having similar problems to Taildragon with my iPhone 4S. It will suddenly shut down at random battery percentages (49% today, quite frequently at around 20-30%) and will not turn on unless I plug it in.

This definitely seems to be some sort of calibration problem with the battery, if this doesnt improve i'll take a trip to Apple I think.

This is such a problem. I am afraid to use my phone for anything battery intensive in case it dies - it's as bad as not having any kind of battery indicator at all!

Again this has become worse after the 7.04 update.

I can partly confirm this. I restored my iPhone 4, manually added the e-mail accounts (didn't use the backup). Didn't help, battery went from 100% to 60% over night (with hours of use displayed in the settings app - obviously I haven't used the iPhone while I was sleeping).

Turned off push and automatic fetching for mail and that fixed my battery problems. Now the battery goes down from 100% to 98% at night and after 48min of use and 12 h of standby its down to 90%.

I guess something is wrong with mail that results in extreme power consumption. Hopefully iOS 7.1 fixes this problem.

Since two weeks I had the exact same behavior: rapid battery drain even in standby on my iphone 4. Example: phone charged to 100% at midnight then unplugged and set to standby. Next morning at 8am 50% battery. Usage inicated 8h standby plus 5 hours usage? This rendered the phone useless.

And here is what fixed the problem for me: I did a reset settings and everything is fine now. The iphone returned to the same battery consumption like with IOS 6.

Just wanted to update the group on my iPhone4S battery issues. Over the weekend I upgraded my iPhone to 7.0.4, and it has resolved my battery issues. When I did the same network ping tests, the Wifi adapter isn't waking up every 10 seconds like it was under 7.0.3. Now the battery lasts a full day+ again with my typical usage. So at least in my case, the update from Apple has solved my problem, without needing to make any other changes to the phone.
