Iphone 4s ios 7 battery issues

I posted this question in the basics forum, but it probably belongs here: Since installing iOS 7 on my iPhone 4s, the battery life seems to be significantly reduced, at least judging by how quickly my battery life percentage meter keeps dropping. I've gone through and turned off all sorts of settings, like location services on most everything, etc. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue? Anyone know of any fixes?

Hi people,

I had terrible problems with my battery life and ended up changing my battery which helped but didn't cure the problem.

However, I did find this video on YouTube that did help and has significantly reduced my battery drain. Hopefully this will contain some tips that may help you all (although it's still frustrating I've had to take any of these steps just because of a software upgrade!!)

I have struggled with all solutions to fast depleting battery on iphone 4s (and ipad) since installing ios7. I sync via icloud to my ipad and noticed the proplem stopped if I powered off the ipad for a day! ios7 must have set up some cycle that drained both devices. Now I have set the ipad to manual (not push) on icloud and diary sync and battery life seems back to normal - no longer have to keep shutting down all apps and turning off bluetooth and wifi to get through a day! Any one else found the same solution?

I should elaborate.

Before iOS 7.0.3 my 4s had decent battery performance - usually good enough for going 2-3 days without a charge if necessary.

Upgrading to iOS 7.0.4 was a definite downgrade in battery performance. With the same usage pattern, battery level would be down to 50% in about 5 hours off the charger, and whining for juice by about 8 hours (below 20%).

I tried many of the proposed solutions from posters here. The only one that worked (since I was not prepared to pay Apple for a replacement battery) was to turn off: Find My Phone (FMP).

I know it's not an ideal solution. However, choosing between terrible battery life with FMP ON, and good battery life with FMP OFF, the choice is obvious to me.

Hopefully Apple will fix the problem in the next iOS 7 update. If not, it will be just another example of Apple ignoring pleas from their customers to fix problems that should have been found in QA before the product shipped.

Have a nice day.

Well I have noticed something else here. Last weekend I was out of the country and had 3G and data roaming off to save money. While away the battery performed well on my 4S. I am home now and often recharge my phone before bed. Prior to this weekend I would wake with 95% battery left and 15 or so minutes of usage. Now....after having 3G off last weekend , I wake with the phone showing 95% battery and 1 hour of usage! ( and to be clear the standby hours are accurate at 8 or 9 hours.) My battery lasts the day......so I a wondering if the battery meter and counter are now more 'honest' at least and showing usage of something or some app that is running in the background and using time and battery. I imagine that if I turned off find my iphone and location services like some others have suggested, I would likely discover theses are the heavy users of power. So far I don't think ios 7.0.6 is any different for battery life.

I have same problem, battery used to always go to 1 % before shutdown, now it's random figures. It will switch off at over 20% sometimes , and then show 20-30% charge as soon as it's connected to charger. This is a business phone which I did like. It has now been rendered useless as I can't depend on the battery. I too think the battery is fine it's the way the phone is reading the battery is the problem. I now due a new phone and am sad to say goodbye apple , but it's just not dependable as a business phone. I have tried all the suggestions, eg turn off find my phone, it doesn't make any difference.

The solution should be clear. Apple should allow one to load older operating systems. This would allow one to (a) go back to a state where they were happy and (b) CLEARLY show if a problem is one of software or hardware. This would result in happier customers and resolution of problems quicker since people would be able diagnose and fix, if possible, issues by experimenting by trying various options while always being able to return to a stable state.

We (my wife and I) are having the same battery problem since iOS7.06 on our iPhone 4S - 16GB.

The stand-by time and usage time indicate the same time. In the past we were able to use our phones without charging between 07AM and 10PM (iOS7.04) but since 7.06 we need to charge our phones around 5/6PM.

We already tried quite a few things:

- press home + power button for about 10 seconds and wait till apple logo comes up

- turned off/on phone

- removed sim

- flightmode on/off

- bluetooth off

- only use WIFI home, work, at family, friends (so no 3G)

- removed e-mail accounts and connected them again (e.g. Gmail account)

- to reduce the battery drain for a but we already changed these things or added these:

* fetch e-mail per hour (2 accounts) - no changes there (was already the case on iOS7.04)

* no dynamic wallpaper - no changes there (was already the case on iOS7.04)

* iCloud > 'Find my iPhone' is turned off, only contacts and agenda are on

* Privacy > Locations' > only a limited amout of apps is turned on which we rarely use during weekdays: Google Maps, Kaarten, Weer

System: only compas calibration is on. - no changes there (was already the case on iOS7.04)

* Reduce motion: off

* Refresh apps in background: completely off - no changes there (was already the case on iOS7.04)

* Siri > off - no changes there (was already the case on iOS7.04)

* Message center > only on for (phone, messages, agenda, facetime and whatsapp) with badges, sounds or bars

* Settings > 'General' > 'Set again' > 'recover all settings' done but doesn't make any difference

I hope iOS7.1 will be the cure for our phones again to have no more battery issues (drain) anymore.
