Iphone 4s ios 7 battery issues

Same here. Just had to plug it in, waited while it charged for less than a minute, then it automatically rebooted. When boot finished and I logged back on, level read 31%. This happens fairly regularly, especially if I'm out running errands and use it to check an item on my 'to-do' list.

My wife and I still have the battery drain problem since 7.0.6 on our iPhone 4S which did not occur with iOS7.0.4. and we tried quite some things (see below) already but they did not help in resolving this battery drain issue. It also is indicated at 'Settings' > 'Use' > 'Time since last100% battery' that Use and Stand-by time are the same.

# Remove all open apps bij pressing the Home button twice en slide all oustanding apps away and then press 'Home' + 'Power' button for 10 seconds

# We do not use Hotmail/Outlook accounts in our mail app but we did remove all existing mail accounts from our mail app restarted our iPhones and then added the mail accounts again.

# Calendar indication in the notification center is turned off (saw a tip mentioned in another topic and on Youtube.

# Brightness is set to approximately 40/50%

# We only use WIFI (at work, home and at friends/family). 3G and Bluetooth are turned off.

# We didn't on 7.0.4. and still don't use background apps (Refresh apps on background). Its completely turned off

# Privacy > Location tracking > Only Maps, Google Maps are allowed to use location tracking

# Network selection is set to 'manual' instead of the standard automatic.

# E-mail is fetched once an hour

# Siri is turned off

# I already tried to ran 'recover network settings' and 'recover all settings' but this also didn't help

# Drain battery completely to 0% and wait for 30 minutes and then charged the iPhones again but didn't help either

I hope that iOS7.1 will fix this battery drain. I hope it will be released ASAP. If someone has another solution then please let us know.

I'm not sure if I have the same issue because I have a factory iOS 7 install.

I'm not experiencing anything like 1% every 1 minute but still with no tricks used (like disabling siri etc.) the battery hardly lasts a day with moderate use. My Samsung Galaxy S1 lasted much longer.

It's not like I can't use my phone but if e.g. someone calls me on Skype on 3g at 100% battery life I'm instantly worried if the battery will last until the end of the conversation... this is bad.

I'm not sure if this is an issue or if the 4s battery just *****.

I have one word that will solve the power issue until Apple choses to do something, which they won't in order to sell more phones. That word is "Mophie".

I was facing the same issue with my ios upgrade to 7.0.6 on iphone 4, where the phone used to get discharged very quickly (in a matter of 2-3 hrs).I almost thought of getting the battery changed, as I came across this thread. I checked the Diagonostic logs (Settings -> General-> About-> Diagonstic and Usage) after going through proletarios's comments and found that indeed viber was causing the issue, where it would crash almost at every 10-15 mins interval, even though it was not open at all. It was draining battery like ****. I recalled that I was trying to update viber from appstore, but never opnened the app after update. Opening viber allowed the application to do a complete installation and voila my problem was solved.

Now it is giving me similar performance as before (ios 5). Thanks to proletarios. Might solve somone's battery issue.

My rMBP 13 battery lasts longer on a single charge than my iPhone 5.

If I have 3G on, battery doesnt reduce, it jumps from 40%-25%-10% and puff! gone! With 3G it hardly would last 3-4 hours, it drains heavily when idling on 3G too. On wifi I get 7 hours, iOS 6 gave me a comfortable 9.5 hr usage time before whining for a recharge. No wonder apple had to install a bigger battery for the iPhone 5S, not sure if its vastly different anyways.

Last week I decided to buy a new battery. It cost me £5.95 on ebay and I decided that even if it didnt do anything it must be worth a shot.

Since installing the battery (which is easy following a Youtube video) my battery performance seems to have improved. It no longer shuts down at weird times, and frequently gets below 10% battery before dying.

Of course, it may be a fluke, I will keep you updated. But potentially worth a try for people getting really fed up with this stupid problem...

Still having some battery drain issues with my iPhone 4S, even after Apple Support call, and switching off many settings as recommended here. So I was quick to download iOS 7.1 Monday morning. All seemed good after a full charge, so I left it on overnight and the battery was still at 98% Tuesday morning--so far so good, I thought. Unfortunately, within 90 min.-- no calls, no texts, and only light web use---the battery was down 20% and falling.

So I did an iCloud backup, did a reset and clean install of 7.1. iOS size as indicated in itunes dropped from nearly 2.5gb to 1.34 GB, but battery life was still dropping off. So I pulled the trigger and installed the new battery I'd ordered from iFixIT--$30 including tool kit and new screws to replace the original "pentlobe" screws. Install was easy, but reassembly requires a bit more focus than the tear-down. The new battery was low so I had to immediately do a full charge and got it up to 95% before I had to head out to a meeting.

That initial charge has lasted me +24 hours and has only dropped to 46%. So apparently for my 4S, the primary cause of rapid battery drain and erractic battery readings was the 2+ year old original battery.

For all of you who haven't updated to 7.1.

Will you please try the following steps before EACH AND EVERY iOS update.

1- double click home button and flip away all apps.

2- switch off phone for about 5 minutes and then switch it back on.

3- perform a hard reset ( press and hold both power button and home button till apple logo appears ).

4- go to settings and perform the iOS software update.

5- please make sure you perform these steps preferably at night ( the time when you don't expect calls, SMS, mail ... Etc ).

6- fully charge the battery ( preferably to perform the update while phone is charging ).

These steps where mentioned in a similar forum 3 years ago when apple released iOS 5 ( thanks to the person who made that post ). Since then I've been following these steps before EACH AND EVERY iOS update in all my apple devices and thankfully I've been having very minimal problems.

Same issue here. iPhone 4S battery drains from 100% to Dead within 2 hours or less (without using it!) I even went out of my way to buy a replacement battery. That didn't stop the problem, which is when I discovered the issue wasn't the battery in the first place. The only solution I have is to put the phone into Airplane Mode. This stops the draining of the battery. However, I have to take it out of Airplane Mode throughout the day to check for voice mails and text messages. Pathetic. --- This has been an issue since day one of the iOS7 ugrade/update. I do NOT want to buy a new 5 Series iPhone at this time. I was completely happy with my 4S prior to the software update. There's no reason why I should be forced to pay $300 for another phone to fix a software issue. It's utter b.s. ---- As a fan of Apple products, I hate to say that I'm seriously thinking about switching to another product because of this issue. Basically, I haven't had a working cell phone since last summer and I'm paying $100 per month for the cell services. As we say in Boston....I'm wicked p*$$ed.

I have the same issue with iOS 7.1. I cannot even pass 4hrs of usage. I already tried calibrating the battery for 3 times.

One thing I noticed, when the battery goes 1% remaining, it can last for about 12hrs standby (NO SMS, calls, WIFI, data, & other running apps on the background) and might even more when you switch on Airplane Mode. I think there is really something wrong with the iOS 7 battery management system.

Common Genius, can you guys even explain to us what's really going on with your iOS7?

Ever since iOS7.0.6. and still on iOS7.1 both me and my wife had huge battery drain on our iPhone 4S and stand-by was equal to usage time. We finally found the solution to a post of another user on the Dutch Tweakers forum. There seem to be a bug within a certain Dutch coupon app called 'Scoupy' which drained the battery completely although GPS setting was turned of and also 'refresh on background' was off.

Scoupy said that a fix for their app is send for approval to the App Store. We removed the app and our usage/stand-by time is again as normal (higher stand-by time then usage time) and best of all a 'normal' battery use as it was the case on iOS7.0.4. I hope this could help someone. I'm wondering if the iBeacon changes in iOS7.0.6/7.1 together with a bug in the Scoupy app could be the cause? Maybe this is also with our similar apps you have on your phone.

I also use iPhone 4S with iOS 7, so I would agree with simple tips like turning off location services and WiFi and everything, but it might just be iOS 7 problems that make your phone eat up all its' juice, like the motion and everything. However, it might be because of your battery capacity. I searched the web to check my cycles and downloaded iBackupBot. Apparently I'm already at 903 charge cycles (O.o), which explains it (Yes, I consulted the iPhone battery page, and 400 charge cycles make the battery retain only 80% of its' full capacity). I can still go through a day, so I'm not worrying, yet. So if tinkering with the options don't work, try checking the cycles.

my experience with the update to ios 7.1 + iphone 4s: my battery seems to still work fine (24 hours without charging for sure) but when I'm charging it takes like 15 minutes for the last 3% to load.

I did not have this problem before the update.

what's also new: my iphone seems to get hot when using 3G or WiFi. Not really hotter than it did before but I can feel the difference and I can also SEE it... yes, I SEE it.

At the left side of my screen, at the level of my sim card, there is a yellow spot from time to time. YES, i say LEFT side, not at the right side where the sim card slot is.

the yellow spot only appears when the phone gets "hot", if it cools down again, the spot dissapears. I can see the spot only on white/grey background.

anyone got this problem too?

Finally resolved this issue which has plagued my wife's iPhone 4S since installing ios7.

Going through all the tips and recommendations in this post and others on conserving battery life, hard-resetting, resetting settings etc. did not help.

A clean install helped for a while and then the problem recured.

In the end I tried to figure out what was wrong through the diagnostics logs. I saw that two apps caused low battery logs due to prolonged connectivity. After uninstalling these apps (both of which use location, although this may be unrelated) and doing a hard reset - Presto! Usage and stand-by now differ again as it should be.

I hope this solution will last.

I have not tried re-installing any of these apps as of yet to see if it was caused by a bad install.

Apple should really have investigated this issue and provided some feedback on how to resolve it - I have to say I am very much disappointed with Apple for keeping quiet on this.
