My iPad takes much longer to charge, or does not charge at all ( this seems to be the case tonight), and does not hold the charge as long since the IOS 7 update. Right now it is plugged in and sitting at 2%. I would have never installed it if I had known. I paid a lot of money for this thing, so I am a bit peeved. I was going to purchase an iPhone, but I am reconsidering that idea now.

Last week I reported that my iPad 4 was having this charging problem too but now I'm going to walk-it-back. I think a non-apple brand cable was the cause of my troubles.

The story goes like this. My wife bought me the iPad 4 last Christmas. She told me at the time that she bought it from Best Buy and got a good deal because somebody had returned it. It worked fine for me until iOS7 came out so I was happy.

Friday night I purchased a brand new, never opened, iPhone 5S and was surprised to see that the Lightning connector looked different than the one on my iPad. It fit differently too. The plug that came with my phone was a much tighter fit than the iPad cable. The Then it struck me. I bet whoever had the iPad before me returned it with a 3rd party Lightning cable rather than the Apple OEM cable. I simply never realized that I had a knock-off brand because I had never seen Apple's own Lightning cable in-the-flesh before.

So I bought an Apple brand replacement cable for the iPad that night and haven't had a problem since.

The other thing I'm wondering is if the transformer might be the culprit in some cases. My new iPhone 5S came with a nice looking, but physically smaller transformer than came with the iPad. I'm not sure but I think the iPad needs at least 10 watts to charge properly where the iPhone only needs 5 watts. Could it be that some of us who own both iPads and iPhones are trying to charge the iPad on the underpowered transformer? Again, this is just me guessing.

Hi I thought I was having a problem charging after installing the update. I tried everything suggested but the battery symbol didn't change like it used to so I just assumed it wasn't charging. I left it and came back 10 minutes later and realised the % battery had gone up it was then that I realised that the battery charging icon is different after the update, rather than being the battery with the symbol in it it is just a little lightening strike (probably not its proper name) to the right of the battery symbol. Also the iPad didn't vibrate or ping like it normally does when I charged it before the update. This may only be me but I thought it worth sharing as a possibility.
