My iPad won't charge after the IOS7 update

I'm having this issue after I synced my iPad 3 today and I didn't even upgrade my iPad just the apps...

My iPad 2 will not charge either after ios7 update. I have tried all the restore wiping it clean and starting over 7.0.2 still not fixed. just got off the phone with tech support and was told that they have done all they can and I will have to pay the $249 to get it repaired. when I questioned why I should pay to repair what they have broken she informed me that the update to iOS7 was not mandatory and in the agreement it specifically states that apple is not responsible for any software...... nice going Apple you covered your *** on this one. now what? trash and go for the windows tablet....it is too bad to see apple going down like this is ther a fix comming for this?

Are they freaking high? My car charger won't charge Ipad mini anymore after update. The charger is a Belkin-- the one THEY SELL on their site -- and it's less than a month old. Was fine before the update. I called Apple -- they told me to also call Belkin (fat lot of good that did but at least they are on notify that there's a problem with the compatibility of their product that *used* to work and doens't anymore). I have to call Apple back again. At no time did they tell me I'd have to have it "repaired". What type of "repair" are they suggesting anyway??? How freaking ridiculous. They need to fix their update!!! Or replace my cable with one that works. I don't give a rat's butt WHAT their "agreement" says. Since there seem to be quite a number of us with the SAME issue, it's obviously a PROBLEM with THEIR update and not OUR individual units.

An Apple salesman has told me that he read that Apple realized that there was a problem with the original release of iOS7 but they have fixed that with a new version now available for download. My suggestion is to try downloading again. Yes, I realize that this won't help anyone with an iPhone or iPad which is not completely dead: this will have to be taken in to the nearest Mac dealer for resuscitation.

VERY IMPORTANT POINT! iPads and iPad minis are not designed to be charged from standard USB chargers or USB computer ports! They have in the past been able to get a very slow charge from these ports. iOS7 increases the power demand and makes it impossible for a USB port to cover this and charge the battery. If you turn off all apps or turn off background app refresh, you may overcome this, but I wouldn't count on it. Before you take your device in for service, try charging it using the 12 WATT power adapter that came with it. iPhone power adapters are 5 WATT.

Franz, but from what I understand, the Belkin car charger is 10 watts/2.1 amps ... still not enough to charge? If not, then what car chargers WILL work? Can't fathom they've now made it impossible to charge Apple device from car chargers....

Genuine or officially approved lightening connectors have authentication chips in the plug. Clones, fakes and non approved cords will be blocked by iOS7.

my ipad will not charge or connect to iTunes either. iTunes is updated to latest version. Ipad started not charging, or charging very slowly after ios7.0.2. Update. I went to the store, they "gave" me a new update. apparently my update is different than the one from the store ?? did not work .....all data wiped out as expected. Their solution: got the same as somebody else on these posts......you need to pay $250 for repair. I complained and then they offered $250 for a new ipad. The ipad was fine before update!! It will charge if I turn it off and take iOS 7 out of the equation. I am using the original cable and plugging it to the wall. Unfortunately it does not connect to iTunes to get my data back.

Engineered obsolescence and selling new iPads to lift stock price is not a good marketing strategy.

After fighting my way through the initial update to IOS 7, hangs reboots etc I finally got the Ipad booted but then I watched the battery drain within minutes. I switched off background updates, bluetooth, dimmed the screen and then tried to re-charge it using the charger and cable that had worked perfectly. 12 hours of charging got it from 5% to about 50%.

I borrowed my daughters OEM charger/cable and it charged normally.

I bit the bullet and ordered a new Apple charger and cable (£35.00 - wonder what the mark up is on that!!) but I am still waiting for it to come.

This bit that makes no sense at all to me - my original 3rd party charger and cable now works perfectly and it's charging normally and the Ipad seems to be holding charge more or less as it did before.

I feel as though I should be happy to be back more or less to where I was before but it's been a difficult (could think of better expressions) few days and I still feel very disappointed.

Using Apples 5.1V 2.1A (~10W) charger for the iPad, the iPad will only trickle charge. At that slow rate of charge, if you are actually using the iPad it is still draining the battery and will eventually die. The charging icon will show and the battery will not drain as quickly as when the iPad is not plugged in. If you are not using the iPad it takes nearly a full day to fully charge. The charger is cool to the touch.

With iOS6 - the charger would be hot to the touch until the iPad was fully charged at which point it would cool off. The iPad would charge in approximately 1-2 hours even with heavy use.

Clearly a change in the software has caused this. Whether it is a bug or intentional is not known. The OS is not allowing the iPad to go into rapid charge mode. As of 7.02, this issue still exists in the OS.

Possible work arounds:

* Only use the iPad every other day, allowing it to charge on off days.

* Wait for a new iOS that fixes this issue.

* Sell the iPad.

* Trash the iPad.

* Get a different brand tablet, phones, and music players.

Do you have evidence that all 200 million ipad updrades to date will take 24 hours to charge?

I also have an iPad 3 and can't charge since the iOS 7 update. I have a OEM charger and cable and notice that if I do get the iPad to charge, it only makes it to about 88% and it's a slow charge. Today, I ordered another OEM charger and cable and I hope the issue is resolved. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've had this problem. Luckily I have insurance but I really prefer not to go through the process of having to exchange yet another iPad out for another.

The first time, I did everything from reboots to a system restore with no improvement. The only solution was to take it to the Apple Store and have the tech check it out. The tech could find a solution either and replaced the device :-(

I can't speak for the others updated iPad users but it took over 12 hours for my iPad to charge from 15 - 88%.

I have an iPad 2 which was having charging issues after the update. Recently purchased the new (12W) charger. Seems to have resolved the issue for me. Also chimes when I pulg it in, which it wasn't doing with the 5W or 10W chargers.

I brought 2 iPads one for my brother and one for myself almost 2 months ago, both are iPad4's. The following are issues I have after lOS7 update:

-After the lOS7 update both iPad's won't charge as fast as it did before the update.

-It takes about 6hrs to charge 20% of the battery.

-Also when it is plugged into the charger (that was supplied with the iPad when I purchased it) is says 'charged' (At 35%).

Apple you need to fix this because it is an update you've supplied. Yes it wasn't mandatory to do the update but if more than one person is having problems after the update, then it is your responsibility to fix without charging iCustomers for your mistakes.

iCustomers fork out good money for iProducts I think it's the least you can do.
