Fast battery drain since updating ios7 for iPhone 5

I updated to ios7 yesterday for my iphone 5. Since then then battery life has been cut in half. My phone normally last me through the day, approximatley 16 hrs. Since I have up dated to ios 7 my phone barely last 8 hrs. I disabled Apps Update, bluetooth, back ground refresh, and some location services. that di not help.

I've been reading around the web that I should do a fresh install. Would that help? Any advice would be appricated.

Is this is in response to my issue or Wildman's? I haven't backed up anything or tried restoring anything. And I have powered the phone down and back up since this issue with iCloud.

This is a messy thread, but I think your original problem is that the phone's battery is going down faster than you expected. If I read that correctly, see if information I posted earlier helps:

This happens to some phones after every upgrade or restore. Some app on the phone was active and was interrupted by the upgrade. When it came back up the app tried to resume and failed. You've got to find and kill that app. If you have an Exchange account that is the prime suspect. Go into Settings and turn off all of the switches (mail, contacts, calendar, notes, etc) for the Exchange account. Then reset the phone by holding HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears. Once the phone comes back up turn the switches back on. Do the same for iCloud if you don't have MS Exchange or that doesn't fix it.

It can be other apps also. iOS 7 has provided a way to control background execution of apps. Go to Settings/General/Background App Refresh. This will list all of the apps that can run in background and use power. Start by turning them all off. Reboot. If this fixes the problem turn on a few at a time until you find the perp.

Exchange account means a company email account, the kind that you would use Outlook for on your work computer.

I didn't see any mention of iMessage in this thread, so I didn't respond to it.

For Find my iPhone, have you gone to Settings/iCloud and verified that it is on? And that it is associated with the same Apple ID you have on the phone?

don't have company email on my phone...just gmail and hotmail accounts.

Didn't mention iMessage deal before.

I have verified a couple times that iCloud is on and even turned it off and back on and signed in again. In fact, just put in my info again, had it verify and it still won't find my phone. This is part of the reason for me not being too sure about backing up to iCloud and resetting the phone. If it doesn't even SEE the phone, how can i trust the backup?

I am having the same problem, my iPhone 5 was just updated 2 days ago from 7.0 to 7.0.2. Before the update i was trilled with the phone, the battery life lasted longer than on iOS 6. No need to optimize nothing and it lasted the whole working day. Now since the update battery drain went from 100% at 8:00 am to 22% at 11:00 am. I didnt need to optimize my phone before, now had to take all mesures to optimize the battery life. Did a restore from iTunes, and still the problem is there. Now had to buy a boost battery case just to get it thru till the evening only, with all optimization so as to save battery. And no, i dan't have any Exchange mail / outlook mail on the phone.

Hi all,

Used to have the same problem but fortunately it's now resolved .... In my case at least.

Updated my iPhone 5 OTA to iOS 7 on 19/9 ( shut down all apps and a hard reset b4 the update ). Since then and up until last week the battery has been acting up. B4 the update I was getting usage of 10+ hrs and standby of 30+ hrs. . After iOS 7 I was getting usage of max. 6:30 hrs and standby less than 20 hrs. Started following this and other threads about 2 weeks ago

These are the steps that I've hone, hope it helps some you guys.

Reset all settings.

Turned off background app updates

Turned off Airdrop

Turned off Parallax

Turned off Auto Brightness and reduced brightness

Switched off Location Services

Turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when not in use

Turned off All System Services except Setting Time Zone

Turned on Limit Ad Tracking in Privacy/Advertising

Set Diagnostics and Usage to "Don't Send"

Set Fetch New Data in Mail Manual

Turned off Push in Mail

Location services limited only to the apps that I use, all others off.

System Services all off.

Battery calibration to adapt to iOS 7 ( full charge > use till shut down 5 times and also 5 hard resets at different times ).

Notification Centre limited to the apps that I use on daily basis.

iCloud > off except find my iPhone.

Automatic downloads in iTunes & App Store > off.

Settings > Cellular > USE CELLULAR DATA FOR > limited only to the apps that I use when I'm out and about ( I'm on wifi at home and office ).

Since last week the battery has shown a remarkable progress.

For the first time after the update I started seeing a usage of 8:30+ hrs and standby 30+ hrs.

Of course it's still not the same ( doubt if it will ever be like it used to ) but at the end of the day it's a ... Progress.

I believe that the power demand of iOS 7 and the A6 Chip processor on iPhone 5 are not well integrated ( just an impression since I'm not a tech guy ).

I know, by reading every post here, that a lot of you guys have tried all these measures without success.

Just wanted to share my experience with iOS 7 on iPhone 5.

Respect and Regards to all.

To reply to the OP, though it seems like this issue is resolved, more or less, I also had this problem, but it did not start until a few weeks after I upgraded to iOS 7. It happened consistently for two days- I kept the phone plugged in to a charger until I could take the time to back it up and install the update for iOS 7 that had been released in the meantime.

I don't know if it was that I had a bad install, as the issue decreased for a few days before I updated, but everything sorted itself out when I downloaded the update for iOS 7.

So- just saying, yes, probably a software issue, but fixable by simply updating (and it didn't hurt that the weather was colder here- keeping the phone literally more 'chill').

I haven't had a single problem with my iPhone 5 or any other OS-related issues except for this, and it was easy enough to fix.
