Facetime activated but won't connect after ios 7 update

I make a FaceTime call to another device and it rings.

The other person accepts the call.

The screen message says "connecting..." but it times out after about a minute with connection failed message.

Anyone with a solution to this problem?

Details

The call is from an IPhone 4 to an iPad mini. Both have been updated with ios 7.

Both devices have the same Apple ID but for facetime the iPad uses an email address and the iPhone uses it's phone number.

Both devices are on the same home network when the call is made.

Having same problem between two iPhones and iMac all logged into Facetime with same Apple ID and worked fine before iOS7. Now I either get "trying to connent" and then cut off or an immediate "not available for FaceTime" message. Seems to depend on which way I'm trying to call.

Have tried:

-variations in phone #s and email addresses

-logging into Facetime on iMac with different Apple ID

-turning Facetime and iMessage on and off

-resetting network settings on iPhone after turning Facetime and iMessage off

-restarting iPhone

-rebooting iPhone

-erasing all content and settings and restoring iPhone from a backup

-forgetting wifi and turning wifi off on both iPhone and iMac, resetting network settings and restaring both

-went thru everything here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3367

-several other thing which I can't even remember

The only thing I haven't tried so far is to erase all content and settings from iPhone and setup as new device. Not sure exactly what I would lose and have to set up again. Plus I can't do it to my wife's phone since she's out of town. Hopefully Apple will address the issue in iOS 7.0.3 update very soon.

We also had many other problems ranging from my wife's iMessage not sending messages to our computer suddenly renaming itself saying that the current name was already being used on the network. I was starting to think I created this problem while fixing all those other items but it's starting to sound like this is just another Apple problem.

In case I need to set up as new, can anyone tell me what I would be able to restore from our iMac and what I'd have to put in manually.

The process that gavthom explained works. Set up as new phone without connec to itunes go connect to itunes and restore apps and music and such. Contacts come back when you sign into Icloud. Do not do any restoer from itunes or icloud only, contacts will come back. Solution to other data on phone just take all off and add on after you do the process. It really doesn't take that long to do. I tried all other fixes to no avail. But this worked for me. THanks to all for troubleshooting.

These are some of the things i had to put back on phone, pictures, email set up with passwords. Music and apps were in itunes but data that was in some apps is gone but for me i didnt really care. only data i had in apps were some pics in a passcode app which i had the pics on the computer so no big deal. The process of resetting the phone itself is only about 5 min but the email set up and music and app reinstalll was the time consumer.

I've seen a lot of people commenting that this must be a problem with iPhone 4...I'm letting you know it is not. My iPhone 5 worked perfectly fine for FaceTime before the most recent IOS update, and now after updating, I'm experiencing the same 'connection failed' and 'contact unavailable for FaceTime' as the rest of you. I've tried all the fixes mentioned and nothing has worked. It is not an iPhone 4 glitch...it's an update glitch apparently effecting all iPhones.

kamalakar pandit and Jagassner,

Try the fix mentioned earlier by gavthom:

On your iPhone go to Settings; General; Reset; Erase All Content and Settings.

Then click to confirm you want to erase everything.

Then plug your phone into your computer and open iTunes. It will ask if you want to set the iPhone up from a back-up or as new. Choose Set up as New.

Then add your info, aps, etc. back to the phone. *Do Not* go from a previous back up.

I did this on both my and my wife's phones and facetime worked perfectly afterwards.

Many others have used this fix and were successful.

Good luck.
