Danish - Thanks, worked for me and it was easy, only took about 10 minutes to restore, after I spent several days trying to fix iMessage without restoring. All the apps (except "my data manager") are still there in the same places I had them, all old iMessages are there, it loaded in all my prior emails etc. I think it lost my saved wifi passwords - but hopefully that is all I lost.
Anyway, thanks for the simple, easy to follow instructions.
Two of my daughters thought I was ignoring them, it's true. I thought any iMessages would come as texts..... but that only happened when both sender and receiver were NOT on wifi. (I think)
Looks like it is working....
iPhone 4s
Backed up to iTunes
Re-set phone completely
Set up as new phone
then restored from back-up.
It is taking an age, but it seems like it is putting all my apps back in the right place, which is what I was scared that it wouldn't.
I didn't enjoy this - but it seems like it is working
Thanks. Danish's solution was the ONLY thing that worked. Should have tried it first.
p.s.
I doesn't put the apps back on first sync, once it is up and running you have to sync again
Did you all ready have iMessage and FaceTime set up, cause if you did they are working fine for me!! :D I'm sorry I can't help you!!
My imessage and facetime was also not working.. i tried everything apart from reseting all settings because i didnt want it to delete all my photos as i dont have computer to back my files on to. anyway what i done was checked my date/time settings and it was showing the correct time but it was on cupertino usa...
so if you are part of the uk go into settings > General > date & time > turn set automatically off.. and then put your time in manually and then turn set automatically back on.. it should then go back to your time zone and where you are.
then turn on facetime and imessage.. it will come up waiting on activation. mines took about 20 minutes but worked.
hope this helps :)
I had the same issue ..Deleted my wifi connection and reconnected to it and it's now working
Come on people, no one has an issue with a suggested solution of erase all? If it were Windows and you were told to reinstall, everyone would be raising H.E.L.L. I've been with Apple for the past 4 years, I can't wait to switch because the same thing happens every year. Restore/upgrade OS is essentially useless if every D.A.M.N. time you have to erase all and load fresh.
Speaking with Apple and being curious as to what the actual issue is, I was directed to the same fix indicated here, erase all.
Have fun iSheep, consider me enlightened and moving on to another company. I hope one day Apple pulls their head out of dark areas and starts to give a d.a.m.n. again.
TOTAL FIX....
BACK UP ICLOUD.
EREASE ALL CONTACTS AND SETTINGS.
SIGN IN AND RESTORE FROM ICLOUD BACK UP ...
WORKED FIRST TIME ... SIGNED RIGHT INTO IMASSAGING AND FACETIME ON IPAD 4 NO ISSUES.
FIXED FIXED FIXED... WORKS PREFECTLY NOW....
OF COURSE THAT WORKS, REINSTALLING SHOULD............GENIUS!
backup the device with itunes.
Restore the device with itunes and set up as new.
Sign into the facetime and imessage to activate it.
After that is done and activation is good.
Restore from the backup.
Then make sure to sign into facetime and imessage again and you should be good to go
The fix is below. Got this from the AT&T tech support rep and it worked:
1. Backup your iPhone
2. Erase all contents and settings (Settings - General - Reset)
3. Set it up as a new device (do not restore backup)
4. Turn on FaceTime / iMessage in settings
5. Erase all contents and settings (Settings - General - Reset) - yes, a second time
6. This time restore it from your backup
7. Turn on FaceTime/iMessage in settings
I tried multiple other things including:
- going to Apple store
- Reset network settings
- Power on/off, etc
Nothing worked except the approach above. Hope this helps.
Good luck!
The DSN 8.8.8.8 things did NOT work for me...
