So the DSN 8.8.8.8 thing didn't work, restoring/resetting network settings didn't work, resetting subscriber services didn't work, resetting date/time didn't work, waiting 24hrs didn't work, toggling iMessage/FaceTime on & off wasn't even an option! 48 hours later only fully RESTORING my device WORKED. Apple, you owe me one... I wasted a day of my life for this, I can't be a loyal customer if quality control isn't kept up now that Jobs is gone. Step it up please. Otherwise, I AM liking this new iOS.

here is the solution that i found afte one week!

first make a back up to your iclound account through your iphone

simple reset all the phone content from your settings . (erase all data!evrything!)

and then ,when the phone boots for the first time , it will ask you for your apple id.

you signing in and then it tells you if you want to make a restore from the icloud.and you chose it!

i hope this will help

Erm, just in case this helps anyone, I had this problem with my wife's iphone 4s. Tried resetting settings, restored as new phone and it could receive texts, but as soon as I then restored her backup, it stopped working again.

As a last resort before erasing anything, decided to turn off the "Send as SMS" toggle (Settings> Messages > Send as SMS). Once that was done her phone started receiving messages again.

Maybe this will help. I have an ipad2 and was having the same issue with FaceTime. I tried all the resets, restores (which is NOT a way to fix small issues like this) and everything else I could find. Then I just slowed down and watched what was happening. My password had mixed letters, some lower, some uppercase letters. Even though I was doing the right key strokes, my ipad wasn't actually sending an uppercase letter. I had to hit the uppercase letter a second time before it changed from a lowercase to an upper case. Hope this helps

I've tried EVERYTHING suggested in this post apart from a full reset, which doesn't look like it helps in some situations. So, today I've tried taking my SIM out and trying it in my wife's phone which is still running ios6, imessage activates pretty much straight away !!! Put her sim into my phone which is running ios7 and it still says awaiting activation although imessage works fine on her phone !!! So to me that quite clearly shows that IT IS A BUG IN IOS7 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on Apple, please get this sorted !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've got a 5S on order and I'm seriously thinking about cancelling it if this doesn't get resolved soon, there was an update for ios7 very recently which hasn't cured my non activitation of imessage, surely a fix could've been included in that update ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
