I tried everything and what finally worked for me was rebooting the iPad.

Sync and save all your info on your computer before performing this.

1. Connect the CHARGER / USB cable to your computer.

2. Switch off your iPad.

3. Hold down the home button (the circle) and an apple will appear, keep pressing the home button as you connect the CHARGER / USB cable to your iPad and keep pressing until your computer opens iTunes.

4. You will see a message asking you to confirm reboot. Click YES

5. This only takes a few minutes BUT all your information will be wiped off your iPad.

For me the problem seems to be specific to using iMessage between two products sharing a single appleID. It happened spontaneously after no weirdness after the ios7 upgrade.

Toggling the "use iMessage" option and signing in seems to have fixed it. Afterward I got a strange notification saying my wife's phone was now receiving iMessage and FaceTime AT MY number...but seems to be working for the time being at least

Absolutely Bogus.

Everytime a new OS is released: "Hey we ****** it up again, but don't worry just back up all your stuff and take hours out of your life to fix something we knew would happen and restore all your stuff the way you like it later just to use a ****** app that Google makes better and for free!!!!!!"

This is the last time I spend any money on any apple product and if I could I would delete Facetime and imessage off my ipad. What a joke!!!!

you obviously aren't reading the millions of comments on here then b/c there's plenty of people telling you how to fix the problem. We all had it, we all fixed it.

plug in your devices to a your machine that your device is synced to, back them up, restore them, then restore from the backup you just made. worked on all my devices and once the os is downloaded to your machine takes like 15 mins tops. Def not brain surgery or rocket science.

I pretty much did what you did and it was put into Recovery mode so that when I connected it to iTunes it did a full erase and install, then when that was done it asked me if I wanted a new install or add the last backup that I'd done. Of course I clicked use the backup because I didn't want to lose everything.

I am not sure if I'm describing the exact words of what happened but now my iPad 3 with the new IOS update is working perfect... Messages and FaceTime didn't loose anything, I could sign in. No pop ups telling me Connect to iTunes to Use Push Notifications.

I am very happy with the IOS 7 update now!

The problem was simply to do with the time zone on my iPad 3. It was not set to the right time zone for my network so caused the error. Just went into settings and set it to "London, England" manually and lo and behold FaceTime and iMessage now work. I suspect that the "backup and restore" fix forces the iPad to pick up your time zone again so that's why that method appears to work, but do you really want to go through that???? .....try the time zone fix first.

I'm not sure if this will work for everyone, but it did for me. In location services, all the way down the bottom is a "SYSTEM SERVICES" option. Click on that, it will bring you to a host of system services, I disabled every one of them, waitd a minute or two, then turned them all back on. I went into my date and time settings, disabled "SET AUTOMATICALLY" and then enabled it. Finally, I went into Facetime and iMessage typed in my password and username and it enabled perfectly. Now everything is in sync again. It's should take like 5 mins...and it's way faster than restoring. Worth giving it a shot. Hope it helps.
