Wifi greyed out on iphone 4s with ios 7

Hi, I have iphone 4s, before when I update my ios to 6.1.3 I got a problem connecting to my wifi it was greyed out. I researched some tips how to solve the problem still it doesn't work. They said that if you update your ios into ios 7 the issue will be solved, however I update my ios now into ios 7, I still have the same issue, tried some troubleshooting again still problem doesn't solve, help please I cannot use my wifi. I just got my phone last year and I am having this problem, I love apple products but this is a big inconvenience to everyone who is having the same problem, help. Thanks.

I also carried out the " heat it up with a hairdryer-cool it down in a freezer" fix and it really does work!

Perfectly Fixed my wifi, my Bluetooth and battery drain problems. Phone even runs faster now

I was totally sceptical that it would work, but having an iPhone 4S running on iOS 7.0.4 software that would only work for about 8 hours on standby before the battery was completely flat, and no wifi or Bluetooth ,I thought what have I got to loose by giving it a go?

Here's the link to the video for the instructions on how to do it and fix all your iPhone problems!

PS: I carried out this fix 4 days ago now and my iPhone 4S has been working PERFECTLY ! ever since :-) :-) :-)

Dear Kooa,

Great to hear that you too had try this crazy idea, I too does it, and it sure work for my old 4S, but..... it will not work forever, what I mean it will be gray out the wifi again, then it need another hair drayer and freezer to make it work again.

My 4S work for about 40 days, I try the same way, the wifi run again, I think this is the only way that no other fix technical can be solve.

I found a professional iphone repair shop, they told me no other way then what we are doing now is the only solution to keep it ruuning.

This wifi gray out problem is mostly and most properly cause by upgrading the ISO via wireless mode, and becaue of wireless, the signal may not be stable and causing the upgarding for 4S to have such issue.

Here I would advise, in the future, any smartphone we us, remember to update the ISO or OS through itune or your computer, by syn to our phone to the computer or laptop, then this will be stable update.

My 4S is upgrading via wifi (wireless) then after 2 months wifi gray out, my wife 4S upgarding through itune (laptop), untill today it still running without any issue.

But I do not know how long can our 4S be running by this torturing and insane fixing, GOOD LUCK! 😉

@Chow brian:

I have read people trying to restore from scratch (via iTunes not OTA/wifi) and it still doesn't fix the greyed out wifi issue.

How old are both your 4S devices? When were they purchased?

I have seen this problem in mostly on pre-ordered 4S devices or devices that were brought within the first 6 months after the 4S launch.

Quite strange... Don't know if Apple changed the hardware for newely manufactured 4S devices. Because I remember they changed hardware on the 3GS devices (old & new bootrom). It might be possible that the older 4S devices had a faulty chip that couldn't take all the heat generated by iOS 7. Just a thought.

Dear jigar7,

Sorry for late reply, my location is in Malaysia, I bought it on end of 2011, that is mean is been year after iphone luach, I brought it with the local communictaion provider agent, not through pre-order, this unit had the wifi grayout 3 days before 2 year. ( no more guarentee as we only had 1 year on phone ).

And my wife had the phone on mid 2012, and this unit still working, but maybe will have the same issue later on,

so, I think it is not when the iPhone is manufacture, I suspected is updating progress that cause this issue, maybe 10 thousand or more 4S user that had such issue may update the ISO by wifi that cause unstable upgrade.

Today it wont work again after 10 days of hairdrayer and freezer repair, but this time is not gray out, it keep rotating to search network............., I will try again later to hairdrayer it again and freez it, and will let you guys inform it is going to work or I will kill the phone by doing it again.....wish me good luck!

Most use my hair dryer has gotten in at least a year.

After being told by Apple that although this problem only occurred after upgrade to iOS 7 and the airplane mode trick worked temporarily AND after being told by after warranty repair shops that there is no fix for this issue and apple saying this is "a hardware issue" and after being told that although this problem started while the phone was under warranty it was not covered, I went rouge.

Heating up the phone until the high temp warning appeared worked for me !!

My understanding is that this resets some tracking or settings within the wifi chip.

The only thing that works is the blow dryer on the upper back of the phone. In this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK5Piz5XZVg&feature=youtu.be), the author says you should heat it untill you get the heat warning, but I've read about about some people that just heated for 60 seconds. They didn't post it again, some people saying it was working after a week or more, so I guess the result was permanent, but I heard some people saying it lasted for hours, days or a couple of weeks max. So, not sure.

In my experience, it is working for 11 hours so far, wifi not greyed out, working perfectly, mac adress appears. Battery lasting more time and the IOS is faster as well. For what I read all this problemas are related to each other and it can all be fixed with a blow dryer. Hope it lasts!

Anyone here tried this method and was not permanent?
